No idea why Sky still employ the bellend. His views on football are just as bad as his conspiracy theories. Sky should do a clear out with the soccer Saturday clowns and just keep Stelling.

Why does he claiming he is a "centrist" if he is espousing mostly right-wing to far-right views?

I read that he was reviewing his BLM patch due to it being a far left group that promotes defunding of police and the takedown of capitalism. Sky apparently turned round and say they're not compulsory. Will be interesting to see what comes of it.

Tbf he did ask anyone either far left or far right to unfollow him. Seems more misguided in his views than genuinely bigoted.

Those tweets really bring down my opinion about him. Not just because of his views, but how clueless he sounds when he is making them on a public forum (eg. only the elderly and vulnerable die)

He was so gifted with the ball at his feet, but ex-pros like him and Merson don’t seem to have a clue about the game they played so well either. They add nothing beyond “personality”, and even that part has serious question marks.

It’s very disappointing. I was such a fan of his growing up.

I think not wearing a BLM badge is fine, I wouldn't wear one. The other tweets about coronavirus and climate change though do point to him being a bit of a thick bellend.

Can't believe that comment about who the virus affects is fairly recent!
That's the sort of idiocy people were peddling along with "the flu kills more" early doors.

Soccer Saturday is a fckin toilet, I don't know who it reflects on worse, sky for employing these morons or the amount of people who tune in to watch it

The whole thing is a tired cliche-ridden idiotfest

I remember back in the day watching low-res compilations of his goals. Not many players have a highlight reel like he does. Great player. But yeah, not the brightest.

Agreed.

I think football has made a hasty mistake taking onboard a phrase that has unfortunately developed some contentious political connotations. You even have the leader of Labour downplaying it.

But football has had its own anti-racism campaigns. Kick-it-out, and the like. Either that, or a variation of it, would be a pin to be proud of wearing. That's what they should have done.

I wouldn’t wear the BLM badge either. Never liked Le Tiss much though, he hates United.

He won’t be seen on Sky again.

He actually talks football better than most on Sky.

Everything above is just really twatty though.

I remember when Sky sacked Rodney Marsh for an off-colour joke.

He's just showing himself to be a bit dim. But I think we knew that anyway.

No reason for it to lose him his job, from what I've seen.

In the last few days they've said on their official UK twitter account that their aim is to abolish the state and the police. They've also made an antisemitic statement on their twitter yesterday which I highlighted in the BLM in the Premier League thread. It's a big no thanks from me, I'm not endorsing that. I'd voluntarily wear a badge with an anti-racism statement on if I were a pundit.

BLM is about black people being treated differently to other races by Police, leading to injuries and deaths. Why wouldn't you wear a BLM badge?

BLM as a slogan and as a sentiment is different from the organisation itself. What people agree with is the sentiment that black lives do indeed matter. But BLM isn't just that. It's also a political organisation, which presents a potential conflict insofar as players perhaps ought not have to wear a badge espousing a particular political perspective.

Ok, I can understand that, but what part of this political movement would anyone have a problem with?

I can see parallels with wearing a poppy, as it is widely regarded as taboo not to wear one, eg James MacLean, although he has his own reasons for not.

A quote from their UK Twitter: "When we say 'Defund the police' we mean 'Invest in programmes that actually keep us safe like youth services, mental health and social care, education, jobs and housing. Key services to support the most vulnerable before they come into contact with the criminal justice system'." Furthermore, Anti-Zionism is not anti-Semitism.

It is rank. Who on earth is tuning in to watch a bunch of drunkards shout at football matches anyway? It's almost like they're just rubbing it in, that they're allowed to watch the 3pm games, and you're not, so let's get the most obnoxious gobshites we can to do exactly that.

Remember when Charlie Nicholas predicted Cameroon would win the 2010 World Cup, just because it was in Africa? Top quality punditry. You'd get better analysis down the pub.

Because we're the UK not the USA?
Because Police in the United Kingdom kill people at a rate of about 0.5 people per million population, compared to about 46 per million in America?
Because people in the BLM protests in London attack and abuse our actually very responsible police?
Because the UK branch of BLM (probably in common with the US branch) are woke socialists who want to "tear down capitalism" & "abolish the police"?
Because woke socialists of their type are the same sneery so-and-so's calling everyone under the sun a bigot and inciting against the country?

It's like you missed the whole story, man. I'd back any campaign about stopping racism in football grounds or society, or putting money and resources into black local communities, if its done to unite people. Black people do deserve better, given history. Especially in America.

They're financial contributions and political associations are almost exclusively left-wing. What if you're centrist? what if you're right-wing? We can argue to the cows come home why left is best, but the fact is that people have a diversity of political and socio-economic perspectives, which should be respected. The best way to respect that is for every player to have an informed choice.

Personally think it's now gone far too political with wanting to defund the police and to bring down capitalism. A lot of BLMUK's aims are nothing to do with fairness but are purely far, far left policies.

Again I can understand that. But surely the message behind the BLM campaign should be the main factor here regardless of your politcal leanings?

I was under the impression that you didn't actually have to be a US national to be for black rights in America? Or indeed black rights were not solely an American issue? If I remember correctly there was a Windrush scandal here? And countless racially motivated attacks and murders in the UK? So please don't make out that there is no racism issues in the UK because, then it seems, you have missed the whole story perhaps?

Most people who support the BLM campaign couldn't care less about the left wing politics that have piggy backed onto it. For most, it is highlighting the mistreatment of black and ethnic minorities at the hands of police not only in the USA but across the world. Prime example, the Indian police, who have the worst human rights record going, for murder and torture of minority groups in that country.

However I would agree it is a shame the message has been distorted by the groups of people you mention, but that doesn't stop me supporting the idea behind the campaign. And to go back to the original point, I don't see why it would stop anyone wearing that badge. If it does, then the original message gets lost and that is a worse travesty.

I agree with everything you've said. And in the circumstances, if I were a footballer or pundit myself, I would wear the badge. Showing support for black footballers who do seem to be behind it is more important than disputing the identity politics rancour. I was just saying why there is a rancour.

Showing supprt for black footballers is more important than something actually being right? Anyway just fire him. Never ever hire someone who doesn't sign up to what we're all obliged to think.

I dont mind Merson i have to admit. Probably because he is a massive Chelsea fan so i cut him some slack haha

Charlie Nicholas talks absolute nonsense. Cant stand him

Thommo meh, hes ok i suppose he has some knowledge of what hes on about, but by god is he biased. I always remember watching him squirm in his seat because he tried claiming diving wasn't cheating simply because it was Daniel Sturridge in his Liverpool days and he did the right thing by going down, when one week earlier he said its blatant cheating. Stelling had him on toast

Le Tiss i also like, not a bad guy and decent player. Sometimes he over exaggerates his match reporting, "miss of the season", watch it on MOTD and its not that bad of a miss. But to this day i think he should have left Soton during his playing days. I think it's one of the reasons his ability is sometimes overlooked, people reckon he stayed there because he stood out, anywhere else he'd have looked average

The old days were great though, George Best, Rodney Marsh, Frank McLintock etc
