Can’t stand these journalist and pundits. Last year it was obvious de Ligt was a very good CB, and in top performing team would be one of the best CB in Europe. But none of those so called experts noticed it. But once something becomes then they start shouting it from the rooftops.

I think him pushing into midfield made a huge difference in our buildup and how we defend during offensive phases. I hope he continues to do it
It's all part of Amorim's system. De Ligt looks far more up to speed with it these days.
This has been the biggest problem for us. We sporadically get a player who starts to hit really good form and they get injured and take ages to get back into form again if they do at all. Hooefully he can stay fit and firing because I really like him. Gutsy player and leader on the pitch
Theoretically yes but we’ve rarely seen it, which is unfortunate because I think that’s what really brings balance into our midfield

Agreed. The more players can do what De Ligt is doing (perform in a way which the system demands) the better.
Martinez was hitting some good form in a similar role last year. Vastly different players but being aggressive / brave / taking initiative is why they work and others often haven't

I am glad Maguire had a resurgence and proved he wasn’t a meme player, but those saying that he was on a similar level to de Ligt were having a laugh.

Pleased he's finally getting some recognition. He's been a good signing for us, and people acting like Maguire was better were always wrong. You can't play front football with Maguire in the team, you absolutely can with De Ligt.
His aggression makes him quite useful in that wide centre back role too actually as he can push up and win the ball back. I'd keep him there for the weekend.

Yea, and I think that was really the best performance by miles anyone has had as left or right CB at Utd under Amorim. He was really proactively and aggressively stepping into midfield to mark, to intercept, to move ball forward, to be playable. For the first time you could see why Amorim thinks two mennis sufficient to win the midfield battle, because this is what he expects from his side CB’s, and Yoro, Shaw etc (even De Ligt previously) has been too hestitant and cautious to really do it. Licha is the only one who started to cahchbon last year, but got injured immediately after.
Yep its not like he was shite at Bayern. Plenty of folks seemed to not want him leave at the time. Plus - United fans talking about taking on a perceived excess or lesser player is pretty rich considering we seem to be a cemetery for players to go and die after being a rockstar elsewhere.
Licha-Maguire-DeLigt would probably our best line up at the back. Both wide CB are comfortable stepping into midfield, and Maguire was decent enough to sweep anything that come to him.
Yoro would be fantastic to replace Maguire once he filled up a bit and gained more experience. His pace would mean we could push up higher
Thinking about how Vidic and Evra had to step it up in training because every week he was going up against the likes of Rooney, Cristiano and others. I wouldn't be surprised if getting actually competent forwards like Cunha and Mbeumo will have a knock on effect that will galvanize both our defenders and GKs.
When did bayern become top 3 again in Europe? Certainly not last year, when they were outplayed by Celtic.
Very often with our players it’s a mentality barrier rather than a talent/physical one. They don’t want to commit to the high press or stepping up the field because one mistake and they will be made to look extraordinarily stupid in front of the whole world and the media assault will be relentless.
The only cure to that is winning, that would settle their nerves and allow them to be more expressive
They may well have hit the same top speed at some point, but it's like comparing a 30 tonne lorry and a sports car. Yeah, in theory they can both get to 100mph, it just takes one of them longer in a straight line to reach that speed.
Over the next three seaons, De Ligt will emerge as the best centre back in the Premier League.
