So obviously we're only a few games into the season so we need to be mindful that he might not keep it up. But fingers crossed. He's easily been our best CB this season especially with Yoro having a bit more trouble lately, And he's been better than any of our CBs were last season.



That said he needs to work on his shooting and crossing :lol: The rest was great vs Chelsea
 
Last season I thought his performances were overrated by a lot of fans. He was Ok.

This season granted it's only been 5 games I think he's been good.

Genuinely think he’s better next to Maguire as RCB. Would happily see Yoro on the left side, as I’m not convinced Martinez will be reliable enough.

Not sure he was overrated, in fact he was written off by many on here. He was the best of a bad bunch defensively, but that isn't a ringing endorsement.

What was clear however, was that we would have a good player on our hands if he could find some consistency. He's found that so far this season, and he's looked good.

Despite the amount of chaos the system creates, he's managed to play well this season.
 
He's doing well, could do better, but he's been the best of a bad lot in defence.
 
Very solid today, but surrounded by players in rapid decay to the point of decomposition.
 
He was part of the chaos today. Van Den Berg and Collins dominated him and Maguire in the air, he also lost the flight of the ball for 2nd goal where Igor is able to knock it onto Schade who had the attempt from the left. Along with Shaw unable to get the rebound ahead of Igor. Also backed off and let Yarmalouk score the 3rd goal. Yes the goalkeeper should save it, no he doesnt do enough to block the shot
 
Still just don’t see him as any more than an above average level CB. On par with guys who routinely start for the teams in 7th-12th in the PL.
 
Not a good display today. Needs to step up in these tough away matches.

The overloads and pressure seemed to go to de Ligt's side and I can only assume it is because that teams have figured out that if you engage de Ligt then Maguire and Shaw are exposed because neither of them have an idea about how to defend the space they are in, it looks like they are trying to expose him but its to take advantage of the other two clowns.
 
Not great today, poor for the second goal but then goalkeeper, Dalot and Shaw were not great either on that one.
 
Anyone who thinks he can be part of a title winning XI is clueless about football. Another colossal waste of money. Mentioned when we bought him that unlike Juve and Bayern we wouldn't be able to offload him and I bet we won't. We'll be made to pay every penny of that fat and totally undeserved contract we gave him.

And 3rd. So 2 of the 3 goals with Maguire being alone at fault for the other

He was the best of a bad lot defending but his part in the goals was pretty bad

2nd goal is more on Dalot going bear hunting than De Ligt not winning the duel.
He was also 1 Vs 2 for the 3rd and that shot should be saved.
 
Great one game, poor the next and this is his issue. What is he even doing on the second goal? Barley facing the ball when it's in the air and then just let his man casually bring the ball down on wrong side.

If he goes to confront the attacker sooner he and Yoro can both play the other attacker offside which ultimately they do but having given far too much room to the attacker to get his shot away. If they did it a second before he can block any shooting chance and he'd have to be beaten with a dribble.

And on the 2nd goal he's completely out of position and loses flight of the ball. He never recovers to a decent position. Dalot is also out of position too central and not able to affect the winger
 
Needs to play in the middle, which is his best position, Yoro and Heaven either side of him, then we can press higher. Harry hold the ball and Shaw shouldn’t be starting.
 
Yeah should have started Heaven and Yoro.
Give the guys a chance. An Heaven is tall , so can handle those long balls.

Totally agree, that’s the back 3 we should be using if we persist with this stupid formation. Yoro and Heven are young and will have poor games but I’d rather that then watch dumb and dumber stink up the place any longer.
 
I like De Ligt and feel he is a leader and should be the central defender, I feel his best performances come when he is not out wide, and playing with Maguire
 
De Ligt is the least of our problems. Most defenders will look exposed and inconsistent in a team, that is barely coached to do the basics anymore.

You're putting too much blame on a guy. If he closes down when you're saying the other attacker isn't offside and a pass puts him through on goal. I don't think you put much blame on the defender who is left 2 v 1 there, especially when the shot should be saved.

The reason Dalot can't affect the winger isn't just because he's out of position, it's because he actively runs away from his position during the move. Watch his movement.

This. And at this rate he ll probably ask for a transfer at some pt and become a starter at a CL team. We have a lot of issues, but its still a team sport. No one s gonna be great consistently in this environment.
