You're putting too much blame on a guy. If he closes down when you're saying the other attacker isn't offside and a pass puts him through on goal. I don't think you put much blame on the defender who is left 2 v 1 there, especially when the shot should be saved.

The reason Dalot can't affect the winger isn't just because he's out of position, it's because he actively runs away from his position during the move. Watch his movement.

He can only pass him away from goal towards the outside of the box. De Ligt has goalside covered with a good position. So he just needs to to keep that angle and confront the attacker 1 second before. He takes 1 heavy step too many jockeying - it looks like he gambles that the pass will be made, but that overcommits him to the outside and leaves 5 yards of space inside to get the shot away. He makes a tiny bit of progress before the shot comes in but its mainly moving towards the middle of the goal rather than out to the attacker and the shot comes in between Yoro and De Ligt. I think Yoro could have helped more as well but De Ligt can cover the run and still confront the attacker and stop the shot coming in so easily

I think we've seen sign it should work with some consistency. I've been happy with him as a middle of the three. I also think when it eventually happens he will be happy with the two at the back and one partner (yoro?)

Makes sense. It's not like he was a part of title winning XIs in three different leagues before.

He's not the best defender in the league and never will become one, that's for sure, but he's not worse than a lot of centre backs that had won Premier League before. Pair him up with van Dijk or Saliba and there's no reason why he wouldn't be a part of a title winning XI — if the rest of the team provides.
 
I don't blame him at all for the second goal.

That movement from Dalot was so bizarre I think it would confuse anyone.

He left De Ligt with two to mark and he initially went to the widest Brentford player then had to switch to the one inside. Ended up doing neither.

I'd chuck somebody money if they could get me 5 mins with Dalot so I could ask him what was that.

I get the feeling that the Dutch squad is absolutely stacked for very good/excellent centre backs, I mean like ridiculously strong amount of options. That he's not being picked is probably more of a reflection on that.
 
De Ligt was our MOTM today. He was absolutely brilliant again. He's only 26 and he's just entering his prime. I see him as our future captain if Bruno leaves the club.
 
He's class. Good signing and a really calming influence at the back. Yoro will learn a lot from him.

Yeah I think so as well. Also VVD is clearly the oldest in their backline and will likely decline at some pt in the not too distant future, so im sure he ll end up getting loads of play time for them eventually. In the meantime - ill cherish him not having extra miles put on him.

Not sure i agree. VVD, Van der Ven, Ake, De Vrij and van Hecke. Except for the first two, i would not take the other 3 over De Ligt. They are decent, but i think he does not like him for some reason.
 
Defending was back to being good today. Had a couple of moments on the ball he was a bit wasteful but nothing major

100%. There is absolutely no reason to move him to rcb. First, he is doing very well at ccb. Second, yoro is doing very well at rvb. Third, maguire, who de ligt move right to accommodate, is not performing well.
 
He is brilliant on CCB position. His performance today and Maguire's last week were day and night. I hope that Amorim learned his mistake and will not move him from there anymore.

Having said that; i fully expect that against Liverpool Amorim again will give that central role to Maguire because "he is great in air".
 
Dare i say i don't mind if United make him club captain instead of Bruno. In my opinion i rather have a captain consistently playing good every game rather than Bruno who can go missing from time to time.
 
Top five CB in the league for me and our future captain. Composed, great in the air, solid 1v1 and a real leader. People just underrate him because of the overall team he’s playing in which exposes our defenders too much due to our midfield woes and previously our dodgy goalkeepers. Also people don’t like him because he’s not lightning fast. You don’t need amazing recovery pace if you’re never recovering from anything……

Was just going to post something similar, he's apparently not apart of the "leaders group" or whatever Amorim called it. Which is weird to me, he's obviously a leader in this group, at least plays and acts like on the field.

If both play, Maguire gets that central role because de Ligt can play RCB. Maguire cant. Can you imagine Maguire having to run over the the right side to cover that side? Potentially having to deal with the fast and agile wide players of the opponent?

De Ligt has had his opportunities in the Dutch NT but not taken them, I rate him higher than some of the competitors but if they play better for the NT.. Koeman is then making the right decision.

Timber, Geertruida, Botman, Beukema, Hato and even Blind are also options for the CB position. Some have done better than de Ligt or have profiles that fit more. It's unfortunate and bizarre yet true, he is not high in the pecking order.

A bit like Laporte was for France I believe.

Can we stop with this he has been poor for the Dutch team? this statement is made so often when the guy has barely played for the Dutch team in months and months. Are you basing this he has been poor on games he played over 6 months ago? because it is not like all the Dutch CBs have been so good that De Ligt can barely get a a game. The coach doesn't like him for whatever reason and that is about it.

He's played 51 games for Oranje (which is a lot for a 26 year old) and has almost always been selected. Regardless of where he was, he's been generally poor. And not only that, he has made some truly pivotal mistakes. He cost us the Euro's during his debut. He eliminated us from the Euros in '21 with a daft handball and he screwed up causing 2 goals and was subbed off at half time in a game last year.

He has even said that the coach should probably not play him in a system with 5 at the back, so not exactly confident either.

De Ligt's international career so far, has been shit. Really no sugarcoating it. Especially since him and Van Dijk sounded like an insanely good pair of central defenders when they both broke through at the top level (as Van Dijk Peaked rather late).

Perhaps people say it a lot because it's true.

Having said that, the timing of finally deciding not to include him at all ks a bit weird. De Vrij hardly plays and is old and De Ligt has been on form.

For some reason him and Maguire doesnt work together. Dont know what caused it.

Mate I love Yoro, but this season he has not been good at RCB, he’s been pretty shaky.

Nobody works well with Maguire. It is hard for any defender to play with defensive partner who he needs to be covered whole game. Even world class defender Varane struggled with Maguire.
