He was largely great last season when he was fit as well, it was hard to give anyone kudos but there was very little to grumble about when it came to him imo.

Quietly had a very good game. Reads the game well and snuffs out a lot of danger. Really isn't a game we should have concede two, but it certainly wasn't his fault.

Really good player.

Bayern were smoking some serious stuff when they decided to let De Ligt go, he’s a brilliant player

Thought he was good again today, and like him in that central spot.

Thought Shaw was good again and all over the place following their number 10. Yoro was mostly good and Heaven was decent when he came on. Just need to shore up the fullbacks now that we have a decent keeper. And keep everybody fit.

The way the back three pushed forward when the Brighton forward dropped deep to get on the ball was really impressive. That's what Amorim has been preaching making us look really compact. He was very good, himself and Shaw.

Unlike us, they hadn't time for a CB to find himself, they want to be challenging for Europe. Waiting on a guy who cost a pretty penny is not enough.

I don't blame them and I don't blame De Ligt either. Whatever it was after he left Ajax, he just lost that stand up and be counted. It's only the past season he has found his voice. And looks happy.

Equally the best player on the pitch yesterday and not for the first time this season.

Kinda feels like no one has really noticed him this season. He’s been great and yesterday again he was fantastic but really just went about his job.

Do feel like he has to be up there as choice for captain if Bruno and Maguire aren’t around.

Remind me a bit of Vidic now. Really great performance and steady as rock. Also carry the leader vibe and cool head in him. Love him to be the next captain.

He's been absolutely class but I feel he might need to start getting amongst the goals a bit before he starts getting some deserved attention. That's the way it works in this league with the like of Van Dijk, Gabriel, Gvardiol and even Maguire who gets more hype and has been nowhere near as good. 2 goals in 52 appearances for us isn't great for someone who is such a threat in the opposition box.

Once he commits to a challenge, there's not much that's stopping him. There were a few situations yesterday where he just absolutely clattered his opponent and cleared the ball. Shades of Vidic there, been thinking it for the last few games.
Has been an absolute rock for us this season, love to see it.

If you see Maguires header last week he was just behind him ready to nod it in. Rio scored 8 in 455 Utd games and he’s possibly the best centre back of our PL era and arguably the PL era full stop.

Meh, narrative. Clubs like Juve and Bayern don't sell their stars at a loss.

Even De Ligt himself recently admitted he struggled at Juve. You can hardly deny his star didnt rise as quickly as we thought after leaving Ajax.
You have to sell at a loss when a player's contract is running down many at times. Just because he didn't live up to his hype, doesn't make his time their "so-so" at all.

Reminds me a bit of vidic and maybe that's why he's fast becoming my favourite player in the team. Proper warrior mentality

Mopped up well, showed good strength, absolutely clattered one Brighton player, was monstrous in the air, what’s not to love about his performance yesterday.

Getting better and better and dare I say it, the entire 3-line seem to be more in sync these last three games. Might be too short a sample and probably optimism talking, but much more compact, and more stepping into the midfield (LCB) and giving us width on the right when Amad and Mbeumo wander infield…

Sense that he will get his goal soon. Can usually find space for himself in the oppo box. Goal would be great for him.

Ye he’s class, I’m really glad he’s ended up at United. Easy to see why he was seen as such a special talent at Ajax.

Genuinely been one of the best CB's in the league this season, been very happy that we got him.

Always awesome to see wunderkids playing to their potential

The Netherlands must have some CB options if he's not even making the squad.
He's been excellent for us.

I’ve said it before, but he’s captain material.

It's great how early he detects this. He's already sprinting to cover for Dalot when the clip starts.

Was fantastic, always in the place where there was dangerous and stopped everything, showed great spiriti all in all.

I have the feeling that Koeman does not like to use MU players. He was always hoping to be manager here

He’s doing well individually and much improved from last season but I think the step up for him has to be being the leader and marshalling the back line which he is growing in gradually. While he’s been good, it will be hard for him to get his due credit until our defence as a collective start keeping clean sheets.

Obviously part of being a top defender is having a good partnership and that’s what the back three will need. We had that with Smalling and Blind and Varane and Licha.

I have high expectations for MDL and while he’s been good, I think he can be even better. Also hoping Koeman snubbing him continues to light a fire under him to our benefit to where he can’t be ignored anymore.

It’s going to be amazing if he stays in this form and we can get Martinez back to his best. A big if of course. Those two on top form fighting for every ball.

Definitely agree he’s captain material. A natural leader. And a very combative defensive style.

Bayern fans were gutted to see him leave. I think he was good for them as well. I do remember Bayern supporting posters criticising their board for letting him go.

He’s been brilliant for us this season and I pray he can keep this form up and be injury free.

One thing against him is he does not have elite pace so he probably needs a partner like Yoro next to him who will have much higher recovery pace.

He’s third in form at the moment behind the two haram merchants, Gabriel and then Saliba.
Don’t forget those two also play behind two CM’s who are both very capable at defending and doing the the things 6s do, I know Rice is more attacking these days but he does have the defensive attributes too.

Also funnily enough I think over the last 5 matches we are second only to arsenal in regards to points.

I wonder if the partnership will look more lethal when Licha is back. Does that mean Licha replaces Shaw?
