People are quick to rubbish players after a poor half of football. Been our most consistent player this season.

I have been saying that for a long time even when he had a good game. I give him credit for what he is but I don't think that he fits into the idea of a mobile CB who could step into the midfield and up the tempo. He is a similar player to Maguire - which is not bad at all, just not what will get us to the top.
We play 3 at the back with fast ball playing defenders either side of him in Shaw and Yoro. He's there for the aerial's and the battle with the big man up top, he's perfectly suited to that. He was shaky in the first half but I think him tripping himself up is probably made it seem worse than it was.

Apologies - in reading your post again, you shouldn’t have been included with the other poster.

He’s not rapid, but I feel he’s not horribly slow either, especially in a back 3. Issue is that we don’t have a rapid center back in any of our options.

Having a decent season, but he's nto a flawless defender in general. Still though he deserves to start. It should be Shaw- him- Mazroui.

Its more than decent. He's been very good. His individual performances are among the best in the league, I don't think there are many defenders cover the space and engage as well as he does.

He’s definitely improved and been one of our better players this season but he’s had a few poor games. Today was one of them

Not his best day, but he’s been our best player this season. Dust off and carry on, nothing more.

Got bullied a little bit by Mateta, but then again, who doesnt? Recovered well in the 2nd half.

Rough day I felt and made a few basic errors. Sort of got his composure back later in the game but at times he was a bit all over the place. Still won a few aerials and got the ball away at times, alright but could be better.

It was weird how both him & Yoro were getting ragdolled by Mateta, but Shaw stood firmly. Not great today.

Two very dodgy first halves in a row but improved in the second. Helped that Mateta was knackered before half time, less excuse for Thierno Barry, whose only ability is being almost 2 metres tall. Both were his direct opponents & he should be dealing with them better.

The man slipped, but we dodged the bullet fired our way. But the good news is that De Ligt has set an incredibly high standard.

There's nothing "an incredibly high standard" in our defence.

Framed that way, correct, but MDL has himself performed at a very high level this season, thereby setting an incredibly high standard...but there is no denying that his teammates have not met his standard.

Shaw has been decent defensively, no? And Yoro = young guy.

MDL has done well. But no, he had not performed to an ‘incredibly high standard’. If that was the case, how would you rate Gabriel and Saliba? That’s an example of players playing at an incredibly high standard. He’s nowhere near them. They are setting the standard. He’s done well, but your praise iS OTT.

Decent recently, yes, and in fact I've always been a fan of Shaw. He reads the game well, has very good ball control skills, but he's in decline and of course he's injury-prone. No complaints at all with him, but he is not the colossus that MDL has been for us this season.

I like Yoro but he's in a bad run of form right now. Nothing to worry too much about though, but he is no colossus yet.

I rate Gabriel and Saliba very highly. I see no reason why multiple players with different clubs can't all be performing at a very high level. Just because Messi was fantastic it didn't stand to reason that Ronaldo wasn't. Not that MDL is the CB version of Messi or Ronaldo, but the point remains unrefuted that MDL has been brilliant for us this season, probably our best player so far...though that might not be saying much since we keep bobbing back and forth between 6th place and 14th place and our manager was at one point within a cat's whisker of getting the sack.
