Such a shame... had a very good season even in a three at the back system. Then he picked up an injury and we have not seen or heard anything from him since. I wonder if this injury will cause even more injury problems in the future.

After hearing Carrick speak on it it sounds even more mysterious than before.

Has there ever been an undiagnosed, at the very least undisclosed, injury where the timescale has first been short and then gone on indefinitely before at the club? I can't remember it.
Reminds me back in the day, Neville basically spent the final 4 years of his career injured and every time it was brought up we were told he'd be back in 2 weeks. Became a running joke on here, meant to be back in 2 weeks and barely played a game in 4 years.

It's neck and neck between him and Martinez for the crock #3 spot in our squad.

Worryingly, he's not even appearing on United's social media, playing silly games like "Guess who is this player", or pointless podcast and stuffs like that.

He was on a TikTok vid that was posted 2 days ago, not sure when it was filmed though

Yeah exactly what it reminds me of.

The longer it goes on though, makes me hope they do know what the issue is, but aren't sharing it for some reason - rather than the alternative. It's been ages, so they must know what's up- surely?

They’re not allowed legally to share players medical info these days.

If his injury is stopping him from playing football then I would think the fans would like to know what it is.
I am not interested in his medical non football related history.

I mentioned this a while ago but there were some claims from somebody on Reddit a while back, saying that his injury is far worse than the club are letting on and that it could even be a career ending injury for him. Obviously you just think it’s rubbish and move on, but the longer this goes on the more you do wonder.

If its a back injury, he can't be rushed, back injuries are pretty horrible to fully heal. So i am not surprised hes out so long.

You can’t pick and choose. You LEGALLY can’t share any of his medical information, that’s football and non-football related.

And secondly, if the prognosis is still unclear, what point is there in saying anything if it’s likely to end up being the wrong information

I’ve heard some rumours that he actually failed a doping test and is serving a 7 month ban, and the club is covering it up with the injury. this may be made up

Heard a rumour Megatron has hired him to help Luke Skywalker fight Apollo Creed, and another he is injured.

Who knows what to believe.

Standard rumour when a United player is out for an extended period. I remember hearing the same thing when Ten Hag sent Sancho on a training programme in Netherlands.

I ordered a United top from the store with De Ligt printed on the back, as he was bang on form and in my eyes, the best player this season. It took a month to arrive and since it’s arrived, he hasn’t played a single game

Carrick will have to make that clear at the next presser then to STOP the questions being asked.

I had no idea this was the case. Is this some sort of GDPR thing?

Yes mate. Classed as special category data and tightly controlled. The player could give specific written consent to allow them to discuss, but why would they want that information out there.

In United shirt Martinez wins that battle easily. Until this injury De Ligt was fit most of the time.

When you think about it; they were maybe shit together but Maguire - Lindelof was most consistent partnership since Rio- Vida.

He missed a few games last season but yea you're right, nothing close to Martinez.

Yup. All the guys signed to replace them turned out crocks, even Varane.

Selling Smalling and keeping Lindelof was criminal!

How can that be? We read reports every single day players throughout the PL out with a hamstring, an ACL, a concussion or whatever. The world even knew about the problem with Darren Fletcher's colon -- ulcerative colitis -- and concerns about medical privacy don't get much private than one's colon, with the likely exception of one's penis.

But with that aside, like with whatever is bugging Mount this time the club should write off De Ligt and Mount until the end of the season, which is almost here. Much to the surprise of many, myself included, we've done very well without them (6 wins, 1 draw and 1 narrow loss since Carrick took over) over the last few months. Despite the recriminations on the caf Mainoo has performed very well in midfield and Martinez -- the media reports a calf injury, but how is that possible if it's illegal to share that information?, who apparently will return soon, has been brilliant for us. Lisandro's absence over the last two matches cost us those two matches.

A selection of manager quotes about the injury. The longer it’s gone on, the more concerning it is.

4 December- For Matta, it is a small thing. I expect to have Matthijs next game [at Molineux]

9 December- I don’t know, sometimes you have an idea then you have to see day by day,’ Amorim said after the resounding win at Wolves.
‘I’m not going to say when he is coming back

19 December - I think everyone is well, we have one more training session but today the rest of the guys are ready to go,” Amorim said of his team news, before being asked if that means Maguire and De Ligt are available, but he replied “No. I’m saying that nobody recovers, nobody else is out

16 January - We’ve had a good week, really,” said Carrick. “Matthijs de Ligt has been carrying a bit of an issue, but hopefully, we’ll get him back in some time soon. “It’s been a little bit slower than what they thought previously

23 January - He had a bit of setback. Well, not really a setback, before I arrived. [It was] only small but he was a little bit slower than we would have liked. “He is getting closer and hopefully in the next couple of weeks he will be back and around it

9 February - Matta, we’ll see how he develops over the, you know… the Everton game feels like a long time away at the moment, so we’ll see how he develops, but he’s positive, he’s moving in the right direction, but Mason’s a little bit closer than him.

27 February - Matthijs has had a back issue which has been a bit slow to progress," Carrick told a news conference on Friday. "It's something we've been working through, he's in the right direction but a bit further behind." Asked specifically if there was a timeframe for De Ligt to return, Carrick said: "It's the nature of the injury, the issue in the back. It's a difficult one to pin down time wise. He's definitely improving."

To be honest that all sounds like a very sensible approach to dealing with the problem by both the player and the club - taking it slowly, step by step and not rushing it, so fingers crossed on a full recovery.

Our centre back signings really have been shite in recent years - yoro was ridiculously overpriced for a raw prospect, martinez is a crock and his short stints of being fit only seem to serve to show us what we are missing (although he may not have been a crock before he joined us), de ligt similar and there was plenty of evidence of this before hand. It's great Harry has been good recently but to be reliant on him having spent about 150m on those three is pretty bad

Before that we had Bailly, Lindelof and Rojo!

Maguire has been the only one who we can call a success, but clearly he was overpriced.

Varane also - phenomenal player, but past his best and had fitness struggles. Not the player we should have been buying.

It’s been a shambles.

he played 14 full 90 mins games and then disappeared, he is a brilliant defender and we miss him in the lineup, but it seems his season is over as I can't see him featuring if he is not even in full training yet.

Even when fully fit, he is an average defender at best, i dont see why he should continue post this season at united apart from nobody wanting to buy him. Ineos have been ruthless shifting out some players, i think he will be on the next list, if someone wants to buy him and opay his wages.
