He’s going to be getting fit for the World Cup, regardless of us, I would assume.
Would that not to be typical if he pulls a Luke Shaw, miss nearly the entire season for United and finds himself fit for the summer national tournament.

Selfishly, I'd rather he miss out and have a full pre-season to rest since he's so fragile.

Don't worry, he's not going to play for them. In fact, I'm pretty sure he isn't even going to be selected. They have VVD, VDV, Timber, De Vrij, Ake, Van Hecke who are all going to be ahead of him.

Yeah we don't need to worry about that

fecking hell they're stacked at CB. Shame they don't have any decent attacking players

Yeah, their attack is made up of players like Depay, Gakpo, Simons, Brobbey, Malen and Wout.

Back to De Ligt, he wasn't even a starter for them during the 2024 Euros when his stock was relatively high. No chance they'll take him when he's coming off a 6-7month injury break.

Midfield should also not be too shabby eirher as they have Gravenberch, FdJ, Koopmeiners, Reijnders all as options. With a few youngsters like Timber, Smit as options as well. All that being said, Reijnders have sat bench for city recently and I think FdJ spent a fair bit of the season injured iirc.

But yeah, options look decent for them until you get to the front 3

Depay is on his last legs, but is our record goal scorer.

I‘m not worried about Gakpo and Simons.

We do need a good right winger, Malen is underwhelming.

Koeman doesn’t rate De Ligt. He’s going to be happy that he has a reason to drop him.

Its not that I think.. Its more that VVD is untouchable and in the past De Ligt and VVD have looked very incompatible playing together.. And there are plenty alternatives so its an easy choice for Koeman to go for Timber, de Vrij, Van Hecke..

Yeah, crazy that Depay is your record goalscorer considering the great strikers you’ve had!
He‘s a bit underrated. He has had a great mentality at the national team, he‘s been a leader and inspiration for the young guys. On the field he makes stuff happen.

He has a great relationship with Koeman.

Out of the strikers we have now, I‘d play Depay if he is fit.

Yeah but competition isn’t exactly fierce right now, is it? But yeah, I’d say he’s got an exceptional NT record and is a bit underrated - I’d raise my hand to that myself.

It does seem like there aren‘t many strikers coming through the ranks these days.

Well, at least it seems there's been a clear diagnosis and action taken. Fingers crossed he's back in time for a proper pre-season. While he's not exactly an elite player, I'd still have him in our first team based on his overall time at the club. If nothing else, he's a great rotation option.

Gotta question why it took 6 months to decide he needed surgery?
Not a decision to make lightly. Rehab didn‘t work so surgery became the best or only option.

I wish him a good recovery, it‘s been a long time. We want him back.

at this point you almost have to assume he wont be ready to start the season when you are planning for next. Would say club needs to plan as if he wouldnt be fully counted on til end of calendar year.

He obviously held off on surgery to see could he make the world cup. Dreadful injury and honestly, I'm half expecting him to not return until 2027 at the earliest.

Seems like surgery was the final option and with anything back related there's no guarantee this won't have long lasting effects. He'll have to be extremely mentally strong and lucky to get back to what he was. I think he's a really top player but he's had the most terrible year with his marriage breaking up too.

Back surgery as far as I know carry risks and complications.

Depending on the type of surgery needed, there is a risk you may not ever walk again. I have an uncle who has had back problems since his late 20s as a chef, but will refuse surgery due to being told there is 5% risk or something it could go wrong.

I don’t know about footballers and back surgeries but that’s usually not a good sign. I’ve seen players never reach the heights they once were as mobility, being scared of reinjury, etc…all takes effect. I hope him the best but it’s time to bring in a CB and maybe even 2, we can’t rely on Martinez either.

Can never be sure with a back operation either, in terms of timescale/recovery.

Definitely need another, with the extra games and injury records of Martinez and even Maguire (pre Carrick).

Feels like yet another case of Bayern Munich having our pants down. Injuries of this nature don't just come out of nowhere.

He was out for 6 months only for them to decide now to finally go for back surgery??

Wtf

So many clowns here who don’t realise that back surgery is the last resort that the doctors will recommend.

There’s too many nerves in the area and it’s so easy to feck things up and make it worse.

Finally made public to what was wrong with the lad, how difficult was that than making it a secret?

All silly rumours was flying around such as he had cancer, bad case of depression and was going to have sex change operation, got to love social media nowadays...
