If United signed just De Ligt and De Jong this summer, formally promoted youth such as Fernandez, Garnacho and Hanniball.. Would you be happy to fill the rest of the gaps at another transfer window?

He wants out and 80m euros should be enough. The transfer window is loooong enough, one or two offers in that ballpark will materialise for sure from top PL clubs… and all parties will just be happy to strike a deal.

This would actually be a brilliant window for United. But don't see hoe United could afford it as De Ligt would cost around £100m anf Frenkie £65-70m. Unless you can sell of Maguire or Lindeloff for like £30m I don't see how United would afford those two.

But I do believe it would be brilliant though. 2 elite player that could form the heart of the team for the next 5-8 years. United needs to finally start thinking long term instead of short term. Signing those two would be a fantastic start long term. Might hurt the short term a little bit if you're unlucky with injuries. If you could land Eriksen on a free as well to create more options, I think you would have a fantastic window though.

Yes, goes a hell of a long way to solving 2 problem situations.

I'd offer up Juventus £50mil and Varane.

This would be the point where I give up on this club. If we can't identify any targets that would improve us beyond the most obvious ones, there is no hope for this club.

Yes I will be quite happy, even with just De Jong. I can tell you that if that social media was active during 95/96 season, most of them would be cursing and swearing at Ferguson for promoting youth and they would have predicted United to finish in 6th. This is why we should always let the manager do the assessment instead of us saying who should be signed and who should play.

Out of all the shite we've had to sit through over the last 8 or 9 years, you'd choose the unveiling of Frenkie De Jong and de Ligt as the point where you jack it all in?

Only 6'4, not big enough for the PL cop on ffs. delighted this thread got bumped and i read those comments.
Only 6'2 even... he could play the role of a dwarf in a Snow White but a premier league centre back? Too short. Who cares that he is taller than Ruben Dias for example

I would swap varane for him if they accept it of course.

Raiola was a miracle worker, getting him the contract that he did, all the while ajax snatched 80 mil for him.

Personally, I'd probably say yes.
It's most important, in my opinion, to sign two top class additions in two problem areas.
No more of this nonsense about signing yet another back up GK, or 'adding to squad depth' by signing players in positions that we are already stocked in.
It's the first XI that needs to be improved, and yes, I know that we have so many problems areas to resolve, but I accept that Rome wasn't built in a day.

Just so long as I see what I believe is clear improvement, and we are heading in the right direction.

I watched him a fair bit since his move from Ajax and have not really seen a top tier defender in him. But the market isn´t flooded with top tier defenders these days so he is clearly very solid hence the prices being mentioned.
After we bought Harry for 80m I don't really believe in the market anymore.

Swap Maguire for him.
Whats it with Man Utd fans thinking they can use their garbage for the players that they are targeting? Why in the fkin world would Juventus be interested in Maguire? And if they would be, United would still havd to pay a massive amount along with it. The same with United fans thinking Ajax would be interested in United youthplayers for loan in return for Ajax's stars.. ffs get over yourself. Selling clubs want cold hard cash, not your rejects or youth players on loan.:houllier:

Oh, just, please, give me a break...
Attractive football, AJAX school, etc.
But what are the results at the end? :

De Ligt - flop
Ziyech - flop
de Beek - flop
Neres - flop
De Jong - ok, not a flop, but no significant rise at all

I mean, all of the future global stars has failed at their clubs, after their transfers for some glamorous fees. Why we should retain all the garbage again? De Ligt cost 85.5 million euros and is no better than demiral when he was still at juve...

He looked class for Ajax but no way would I be happy with him as a marquee signing for a load of money that prevented us from getting a better player in a more important position. I think it makes to do that with de Jong because it’s a critical position we haven’t addressed in years, not another expensive CB.

Only if those two remain the only additions. They wouldn't be enough to get us even back in the top 4.
With the right training from ETH and co - we might. We might actually play properly again.

Buy him and then move him into a fortress so he can't be burgled

Is there something like fort Knox in the North-West of England?
Maybe something like Big Yellow storage? I think they are quite safe.

I did but it wasnt clear. Obviously I didn't think hed be talking about a straight swap, but nevertheless its quite a tendency here that people mention Uniteds leftovers as possible medium of exchange. It's quite arrogant to think that these clubs are really waiting for your leftovers in exchange and then expect that this will significantly lower the price.

doesn’t this guy make a few mistakes? I’m sure when we was first linked with him few years ago there was something saying he’s just a better Phil Jones.

You'll be telling me we can't factor in Pereira to the DJ deal next.

Phil Jones doesnt really play football anymore but if Phil Jones wouldnt have been injured for most of his career he would likely be the Manchester United captain and Harry Maguire would hopefully still be playing at Leicester. Phil Jones wasnt a bad player so a better Phil Jones isnt a bad thing. Phil Jones sure had the potential to be a good central defender. Injuries ruined his body and the lack of games ensured that he never got the experience to get the flaws/brainfarts out of his game.

Currently i would say de Ligt is a better Harry Maguire. Matthijs de Ligt isnt the quickest or most agile player but he is quicker and more agile than Harry Maguire. Since de Ligt comes from Ajax he is used to playing with space behind him and can do some of the build up. He is also used to pushing up and be aggresive towards winning the ball back. I do think de Ligt will improve the defence (and he is a leader too so he could become captain after a while too) but for now Maguire, Lindelof and Varane are good enough until more serious problems in the squad are fixed. First atleast one central midfielder, a right winger if Sancho is going to be playing from the left and a more modern/attacking right back before upgrading on the current central defenders.

Haven’t really watched him at Juventus but if he still can play like he did for Ajax then he’s better than anything we have but then there is the issue that it would only really make sense to get him if Harry Maguire was leaving. DeLigt probably still has faster feet and in general just a better player but they are both not that quick or agile so the two of them together would be like that iceberg slowly eaking towards Dicaprios boat.

A player like Pau Torres probably makes more sense, especially at the kind of fees DeLigt would undoubtedly cost.

Plus CAF scientists tell me his dad is obese so we shouldn’t get him Because of genetics. 1 post workout meal with Shaw and need a forklift to get him out of bed.

De ligt hasn't been a flop at all, he's basically their first choice cb at this point and still only 22, Van djik was in Celtic at this point of his career for contrast.

The rest are fair enough .
