This signing confirms Barcalona are finished and there golden era from 2006 - 2016 is over.
Just a shame it came when Utd were at their peak.
It's fecking infuriating. United 2007 to 2011 was a generational team but we were the bridesmaids and more or less forgotten to history now because of them.

Is Koeman trying to outdo LvG by bringing in even more shit Dutch players?

I think he'll be a huge signing for them. Koeman got the best out of him for Holland. In most games for Holland playing with better players, he's been the best player on the pitch. He's at that age where he's ready to go up a level and possibly explode.

Some posts sound more like jealousy if anything. Some people on these boards just don't like seeing players who've left us succeed elsewhere or have any sort of luck. Losing sleep over meaningless things again as per the Caf habit.

He'll score lots of goals for them because half the Spanish league is so poor but playing second fiddle to Messi might set him back,

More than him being an ex United play - its him leaving Jose Mourinho that I find interesting.

If he does well then that's another bad sale that happens in numerous clubs Jose Mourinho has been at.

1. This is a man who sold Memphis because he was a LW to him and not his traditional physical striker.

2. This is a man who was working on making Rashford vs Martial as a way of making Martial move out because none of them were forwards for him either.

3. Sanchez was used as a transfer on top to then make more of our forwards possible leaving us.

I never really understood people crying for Jose Mourinho after Van Gaal & still to this day saying that Jose was the best manager post SAF just because of a successful season. Ole has just carried on a bit from LVG's far from perfect leftovers just like the original plan was for Giggs to succeed him. Memphis would possibly have been here if Jose wasnt wasting time here with Zlatan & Lukaku - rather developing Martial, Memphis, Rashford, a young RW instead of a LW like Sanchez etc.

Would be a decent signing if they didn't already have 4 - 5 still talented but poorly used forwards still on their books.

Griezmann
Dembele
Coutinho
Suarez

Are just the main ones who are clearly all better players than Depay, and i've left Messi out of their list of forwards to make things somewhat fair.

Why Koeman wouldn't just prioritise getting a system that actually makes good use of the forwards on their books is beyond me. Adding to their forward line even with a decent forward like Depay is just silly, why not use the good to great list of forwards currently on your books.

Did Messi twist their arms to keep Suarez? If not this transfer makes a lot more sense.

It’s especially weird in this case because the guy has admitted he should have done more at United. He also often shows United love on his social media pages, wearing United shirts etc. When they knocked City out of the CL one of his first posts was “Manchester is red”. He has only said good things about United.

If this is the quality Koeman brings to the team he wont last long. From David Villa, Eto'o , Suarez etc to Depay is a massive step down.

Maybe bought as a backup option though

I'll never forget what Memphis did to that poor RB in that Europa game. Glad he did well with Lyon. I guess if he ends up at Barca it will really cut into Braithwaite's minutes.

How does this make sense? They have Messi, Griezmann, Coutinho, Dembele, Fati and have still Suarez in their books.

He is still physically at the club with no guarantee that anybody will meet his asking price or take on his wages on a free, so they may still end up with a good player who they don't want but can't get rid of. Even then if they can get rid of him they have Fati on their books who would continue to benefit if given most of the time that Depay will presumably be getting.

It makes no sense given how overloaded they are with good forward options. They should be spending that money on defence and defensive midfield.

Holy hell, congrats to him if it’s true. The rebuild will he hard but he’s still young and it’ll be quite the challenge.

Someone said that In Barca, manager doesn't make/involve in signing. So it seems like it's not totally true then.

Good luck to him.

Will be interesting to how he copes at another big club. I think we could've used him as competition for Martial but, oh well.

He's done well for Lyon but he hasn't been Barcelona level of good. I know Koeman knows him from the national team but it just seems like a continuation of the model which has brought them players who either don't fit their system or patently aren't good enough like Braithwaite.

On paper it seems he’s not good enough. However, if he actually provides some mobility up front, and if he can press he could be valuable.

Furthermore is Barcelona don’t have any money, perhaps it’s all they can afford to do.

I barely consider him a united player so im impartial to how he does. With a livid messi complaining about state of things, not sure this signing calms any waters. Fun to watch though

Just because he has been successful at another club doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have sold him.

He looked awful for the majority of his time at United - unable to beat his man because he was too slow and had no trickery, unable to do his signature cut-inside-and-shoot because it was too predictable, and after a couple of months he looked disinterested in playing for us.

Is the barca president doing this to p*ss Messi off even more. Depay a Barcelona player. Are we all sure there was no B after Barcelona as in their 'B' team

Also Depay? How you going to fit, Messi, Greizemann, Dembele, Coutinho, Fati, Tricano into a front three? Wheres your striker? Oh hes off to Juventus on a free (Suarez). Nothing has been learnt from the Messi saga then.

This isn't the same Depay that left us. He has matured as a striker and even plays Infront of Moussa Dembele many times.

Its because players like Memphis succeeding elsewhere reflects very badly on the management of United and a lot of these supporters a like cult followers of the club. They don't really watch football outside of United and mostly have a ignorant attitude towards players in the other leagues/countries

Regardless of whether we think its a bad transfer for Barcelona, dont we have a 25% sell-on clause for Depay? That would mean more transfer funds for Ole.

I wish him the best but I'm very skeptical about this one, he has the bad habits to only really perform against cannon fodders.

Love Memphis but he's still frustratingly inconsistent and this has a bad move written all over it. Fortunately for him the fans won't be in the stands so he can at least gain a footing at the club without that pressure. Just the small matter of Messi judging every move he makes and shaking his head in agony.

He performed quite well during the business end of Lyons champions league run becoming the first dutchman since RVN to score in 6 straight CL matches including the tie winner against Juve

He scored one goal at the business end, against Juventus, and he wasn't particularly good in the 4 games played after lockdown, so that's a strange point to make. The norm over the last 2-3 years is that he can dominate weak oppositions but disappears against good teams.
