Messi in Miami

No worries - unless you're the one who wrote that tweet!

But do you genuinely think it's an incredible goal? It's nice (and I absolutely love Messi) but is it particularly special?

I think its classy but not iconic or something.

Suarez can barely run and still tearing up that league. Couldn't be top 8.

This probably has more to do with the way the league is structured within a salary cap that limits competitiveness and forces good teams to get rid of their better players since they can't afford to keep everyone who turns out to be good.

There are all sorts of rules about how much you can pay certain players and "creative" ways to reduce their numbers on the books. MLS has a history of bending the rules for big market clubs, which it has done to a hilarious extent with Miami. He'd look his age easily in almost any other team, but when he's in a team with all the other former Barca boys, he can still shine (as much as you'd say he's shining with 1 goal in 4 matches to start the year). Miami are in the midst of their 'super team' and will run the league as long as Messi wants to play for them.

Why did the commentator call him 40 years old? He is 37. I know he is just trying to exaggerate and round up his age for dramatic effect to emphasize his longevity but professionals who are paid to provide accurate information, is lying is just lazy and misleading.

It's a great goal, sometimes he just makes look things too easy to his own detriment, even nowadays version

I enjoyed watching this.

His first game in the starting line against Osasuna, yes I know the lad's voice is annoying as hell, he has good vids in his channel thought. And this little vid it's really great, great little plays, a great header and a blatant penalty not called (he had some of those in his career that he didn't got due to him not making a meal of them).

It had another layer, he started the whole thing.

I don't get his new hairstyle, thought me being bald should keep my mouth shut

I wonder how beholden to Barcelona he finds himself to be.

I reckon now that he finally achieved the coveted prize with Argentina and his relatively acrimonius exit from Spain he'd prefer being known as the guy who got Argentina their third world cup than for his achievements in Spain.

He did too much in Barca to that be overshadow by the NT.
For me his issue with Barca was with the management and later with Laporta where he felt used. Yet not with the Club itself. Too many years, to attached to the City itself. PD: MLS or not he just scored another one.

What a weird game.
Still don't see the offside from Lucho.
Redondo's kid should be Nico Paz
And damn Inter Miami's defense is lame.
It's kind of funny seeing Messi so invested in winning with Inter, he really fecking cares.

I dont take responsibility for the posters hyperbole.

Inter Miami in both areas it's quite "missing"

Seeing him against European teams might be the one positive thing about the stupid club WC

I used to like a lot the Intercontinental, the CWC not that much, yet at the same time I think that even being made to earn some easy bucks, there is quite a a lot of elithism going on with the complain of non traditional Clubs, from less traditional countries particpating.

Back to Messi, the team it's really really really bad. Bar Jordi that still it's quite Jordi, the rest has been below par. Luis has been scoring and assisting, yet he really looks stiff and blews oportunnities very frequently, still is Luis, one of the greats.
Another thing would be Messi ina proper team, he still would do Messi things, yet under this context they more than probably will be trash.

I don't hate the CWC because of clubs from other continents participating. What I hate about it is that they squeeze another football tournament into the calendar that will only widen the financial gap between elite clubs and the rest, require those elite clubs to hoard even more talent on their benches who would otherwise showcase their talents at smaller teams, decrease the quality of football even further and lead to more injuries, just for the sake of even more money in the pockets of corrupt associations. And then they pretend that it somehow is about breaking the European football hegemony. If they'd be serious about supporting Southamerican, African and Asian football culture, they'd work towards salary caps and evening the playing field. The only reason those teams could stand a chance against the big European clubs considering the differences in financial muscle is that the latter have to burn their players in a schedule of 70+ games a season. And on top, they combine it with extremely shady TV deals that are almost openly corrupt.

So yeah, there is basically nothing to like about the CWC IMO. I think Messi against European teams will be the only matches I watch. Hope it fails spectacularly and will be nothing but a huge money burning operation.

Not really goat level performances for PSG and Inter Miami.

Personally that's why even if I can accept that Messi is the official GOAT ( who wants to be a millionaire asked me a question then messi would be my answer) but for me C Ronaldo is my GOAT because as SAF said, Ronaldo could do it for Milwall but Messi was always just a Barcelona player.

The most skillful player ever but I've seen too many players flop out of their comfort zone and even players moving to different clubs in the same league struggling & I've seen enough of Messi out of his comfort zone to believe that Messi would be one of the best of all time - but not THE best of all time if he played outside of Barcelona.

A very unmagical player at PSG in comparison to how he played at Barcelona, cutting and and shooting on his left like he is Antony.

I guess I'm not an odd one out because arguably the GOAT manager thinks the same.

Comparing Messi (even the PSG version) to Antony is certainly a choice. Thank you for your valuable contribution to this thread. Now please take the Messi vs. Ronaldo stuff elsewhere. Thank you.

We're doing "couldn't do it on a rainy night in Stoke" in the year of our lord 2025?

Just take a look at Bigsoccer. There are some Cris fanboys going lengths to discredit anything Messi did, Quagmaguire just went mild.

Inter MIami right now looks like heading to a blood bath. I'll be very surpirse if they do sthg merely good.

What's the excuses for Messi at PSG? Couldn't get 20 goals a season in ligue 1. 6 goals in his first season. Alot of penalties.

Cherki should be able to beat his stats soon this year

Well Cherki it's better, so it ends being pure logic

Messi contributed 77 goals and assists in 75 matches (goal or assist every 84 minutes) for PSG as an attacking midfielder. I find that more impressive than scoring a goal per game as a striker. Not as good as he was at Barca, obviously, but that has more to do with him being heads and shoulders above every other player on the planet there.

Please take the CR7 comparisons to one of the many Ronaldo v Messi threads.
