Will eventually, maybe next payday. I've spent far too much money this month already :(
Set up an Onlyfans to help pay.

Finally got a chance to give it a go after a hectic weekend. Love it so far...only issue is I usually play on a Series X/PS5 and the Switch on a 4K screen just doesn't cut it...I'm not talking about fancy graphics, just the reduction in resolution is disappointingly noticeable.

Have you put this game down since you got it?
Not really

Yeah this is one of my few issues with the game too. Some noticeable frame rate drops at times too.

Have just finished it. Final boss wasn’t too bad in the end, just requires very quick reflexes and learning the bosses moves (good luck @Spoony). Still a challenge though. Have now unlocked hard mode so tempted by another playthrough…..

Overall though very impressed with this, a really fantastic game. Excellent design and the world is just so fun to explore. Enemy/boss battles are varied and fun and it really does require a level of skill to beat the game, as some of the bosses are a real challenge (which I always like, but it may put some players off).

I’d say my major disappointment was the soundtrack, just really not well done. I think back to Super Metroid and every area had a unique and memorable soundtrack, whereas this wasn’t the case here. Even at the end when you’re escaping the music was incredibly dull and really doesn’t fill you with the sense the planet is about to implode. Contrast that with the escape them from SM below and the difference is stark.

Another minor gripe was the forced linearity at times. It would have been nice to be able to traverse back to different areas to go do some exploring and finding of items, but at times these were inaccessible. This is just a minor gripe though.

But yeah, overall loved it. I really hope we see more 2D Metroid’s in the future (and a Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Switch!).

Good write-up. Agree about the importance of music too. Both Super Metroid and Prime have ominous but memorable music that really adds to the world. It's a shame if it's not present here.

Out of interest, did you play Bloodstained? I know it's a different kind of game but it's my favourite Metroidvania of recent years not called Hollow Knight. Wondering how this compares...

I haven’t no, it’s been on my list for a while so I may get to it soon. Worth it I take it?

Yeah was really good. Played via gamepass - obligatory mention - in hope more than expectation but it really sucked me in. Good exploration and really fun combat.

It's worth more but if you see it on sale for <£20 I highly suggest picking it up.

So not as good as SM but very good regardless?

Yeah, SM is in the GOAT tier of games. This is still very very good and very fun. I’m going to do another playthrough on hard.

You essentially have to go to the next area now, the game pretty much forces you to.

Also the same applies in future areas - you won't be able to get 100% of items in any area until you've unlocked your power ups and can essentially free roam.

That mushroom thing pissed me right off because I couldn’t get past it, but if I progressed to the next area the rooms were all too hot.

Took me ages to find

the destructible wall in the next area. The amounts I went back and for was unreal
