Michael Carrick - Head Coach for the remainder of the season

Body language on the sidelines gives zero confidence

Costing us dearly

This result will be a long term good if we still qualify for the CL - which we should - and it ends the 'Carrick as permanent manager' delusion.

Nah, he ain’t the one. The same things Middlesbrough fans criticised him for are evident again here. Hopefully does enough to get us over the line and secure CL football but definitely need to look elsewhere for a full time appointment.

Chasing a goal and yet he doesn't sub in Mount or Zirkzee for the tired legs. He is showing his failings there. Not up to it.

I am done with this club if they decide to make him perma manager.
This. If a footballing institution of this stature bows to the demands of this nauseatingly sentimental fanbase by appointing this passive, no mark manager, we can write off another season.

People clamouring for this United DNA, knows the club inside out shite will get what they deserve.

I am not convinced but he gets a big "benefit of the doubt" with the squad at his disposal. I mostly mean Yoro who should have never been close to being a starter on current form, and yet here we are, probably first name on the team sheet for next week.

Also, have to admit Leeds have been very very good until Martinez lost his mind.

I hope that, in the eyes of the hierarchy, it is possible for him to get CL football without getting the job permanently.
I don’t see where we get the points to make top 5. We’ve been lucky lately and we are so poor in front of goal. Carrick has been way out of his depth and we’re second best every game. Chelsea will be all over us - and they have been shite.

There’s a point when calm looks like indecision, and he’s there. Bad plan to start with and too long to change it.

Not good today, should have made changes at half time. Ugarte decision a shocker he was awful

Imagine he’s lost a lot of support today, including from myself.

That first half was bad as anything I’ve seen in our worst moments.

Let him limp us over the line, wish him all the very best and get a proper manager in from the day after fixture 38.

Will be a fight for 5th now. Our form has been poor for a long time. Carrick is not the chosen one.

Hopefully this ends talk of him getting it permanently.
The club aren't even actively looking for managers, we'd have heard something if they were.

They've already decided we're getting top 5 and so it will be Carrick.

Only finishing 6th will change their mind at this point.

His stock is falling which maybe is a blessing in disguise, if we get top 5 but stutter our way there then that is probably a more realistic reflection of him and the players.

Can't be our manager. Too much of a fecking coward. Should have seen 2-3 subs after that first half.

Deer in the headlights. No thank you

Yep. This reflected poorly on Carrick this evening. We played like Carrick's personality... insecure, fragile, still working things out..

Manchester United's manager has to be a killer. I am fed up with Manager's who talk about 'trusting' players. Forget all that, stop trusting players. Get character's in, who have some nuts. Casimero and Bruno played poorly, but still came up with a goal. Who else was going to do anything out there?

Fool me once shame on you bit twice or three times? I wouldn't even be shocked if they did it because we are absolutely incompetent at board level but I don't think I would be able to handle watching that dross under him

Get us CL football, say thanks & move on. Would be idiotic to keep him, but it wouldn't surprise me with the idiots in charge.

We've been on a downward trajectory for a while and it seemed like he just froze tonight.

Need to wish him well at the end of the season and look elsewhere I think. You can't just rely on brilliance from Bruno and co every game.

The whole not training with intensity which leads to playing like shite every first half, to then not actively make game changing subs is really running dry now.

My opinion remains the same, I think. I’m still probably taking Carrick over the Iraola’s and Glasner’s of the word but if we can get a manager with actual pedigree I’d get them

Playing like we've been for weeks/months now, I've no doubt we'll miss out on CL football again. So flat, so poor. This team needs legs and quality in midfield. More effort, more energy. WTF was that in the first half? Dare I say, worse than Amorim even.

Pretty poor starting lineup but the lack of half time subs was the real killer. I'm not sure how you can be 0-2 at home (could have been 3 or 4 down) with the team playing shite and not make a single change.

Just like Ole, we only seem to play better as the underdog.

Not seeing anything characteristics on how he wants to play.

Is he as bad as Slot, god no, but still not good enough.

He's not the answer. Hopefully he can get us over the line for a CL spot but it's becoming clearer and clearer for every week that he's not the guy to take us to the next level.

Too many warning signs for me. Doesn't seem big on tactics and gets the team selection wrong too often.

We will definitely give him the job though cause it's United.
How slow he is to make subs is always a major red flag to me.

I can't be putting up with years of our manager watching the game go terribly and doing nothing about it.

This was an unacceptable performance by Carrick. To see players struggling this badly and then do nothing until the 70th minute, and only using two subs all game, is a massive managerial failure and something that tells me he should not get the job.

He has lived off of his new manager bounce, but since those first four or five games, it has been almost as bad as under Amorim.

You’ve no doubt? We’re 7 points clear of Rosenior’s Chelsea.

Just totally frozen tonight, I'm afraid. There's such a thing as being too patient and 'calm'. Sticking out the same XI after that first half sends a very negative message

The only games we've played well in since the Arsenal gave have been when the other team had a man sent off.

When Amorim left, we needed someone to get us back to basics and that's what Carrick has done and it's helped up. To no one's surprise as games have gone on, we now look basic.

He strikes me as a coach with the simplest of ideas. His tactics, subs, team sheet is all basic, he's not someone that is going to innovate or come up with anything particularly daring.

I've been saying it since the Fulham game we have to let him go at the end of the season, it would be a massive mistake to appoint him.

No need to be knee jerk. Decide at the end of the season and consider who else is out there. For me right now unless it’s Luis Enrique am not particularly interested in changing.

If you can't get the team itching for a home game against Leeds after a three week break then I doubt he's the guy who'll get United back to winning ways. Looked like a deer in headlights at times.

You’ve no doubt? We’re 7 points clear of Rosenior’s Chelsea.
I've absolutely no doubt we'll lose to Chelsea, then it's 4 points. And we have Brighton and Liverpool too, how confident are you of us getting anything against those? I've zero. We've been playing poorly and continue going downwards performance wise. It's not sustainable.

I think this is where he's lost his chance. The game was lost first half or probably when he didn't make the changes everyone could see he needed to make at half time. Martinez didn't get sent off until 10 minutes into the second half. Even if we stayed at 11 when would the changes have been made? 65? 70 minutes? I don't get what it was about the first half that made him think we needed to see another half hour of that.

Leeds could have put this to bed in the first half and he intends to play at least 15-20 minutes of the second half with more of the same? We can look back at this result as the day Carrick rules himself out of contention. It's not a knee jerk thing, performances and results lately have been more concerning than the outdated Midas touch narrative playing out in the media has been suggesting.

The writing is on the wall. Maybe he was too busy at half time trying to read it and forgot to make changes.

Our performance against Leeds wasn't at all dissimilar to most of our performances under Carrick. The main difference is that Leeds weren't entirely profligate (although they really should have scored more).

We don't control matches, we don't know how to press, there's no real pattern or structure to our forward play, and our defence is shaky whenever we aren't able to sit in a deep block.
