Michael Carrick - Head Coach for the remainder of the season

Welcome back.

Probably the best person to be interim. Considering Glazers, INEOS, and Wilcox are still here, Imma be very skeptical about what he can actually do, but that would have been the case with any interim, so... We could have done much better for interim, e.g. Fletcher :)

Welcome back Carrick!

There's still Champions League to play for so I hope he can get this team playing for the rest of the season. I expect him to be steady, but maybe not pull up any trees.

Tough start for him with the upcoming games, but I'm hopeful of a better showing than the last few games anyway.

Interesting that word "interim" is not mentioned at all.
Something do with the negotiations and bigger role?
"for the remainder of 2025/2026" means exactly that -- "interim". They do not need to spell it out :)

Good luck to him, hope he does a good job.

Didn't realise Woodgate was part of the deal, can't wait to hear what Keane thinks of that.

It's normally an explicit part of the title though, isn't it? I remember Rafa Benitez hilariously being pissed off about it in a Chelsea press conference once.

When we appointed Rangnick, the club statement read "Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season, subject to work visa requirements."

Carrick is Interim Head Coach and Jason Wilcox remains in the Manager position by the looks of it.
Mental, really. How is a shite ex-pro with 3 England caps and very little management or directorship experience in the most senior footballing position at the worlds biggest club? When do we start to question this shit and demand more from this role as well as the head coach?

All for a DoF if they’ve got the credentials, let’s get a new one when we get a new head coach.

Have every faith Carrick will do as well as any this season. But let’s not forget we’ve got to look past the head coach, upwards

Best of luck to him.

If he gets us a Europa League spot it would be a very good achievement what with all the turmoil we are in.

The last time I felt as excited with a united signing was when we signed Bebe

Hope he does well but this feels like another wasted season.

Good luck to him but I'm expecting another long, grim end to the season with this squad.

Fergie got 4 caps for Scotland. Since when did your playing career have any input in how good you are as a coach or DOF?

feck does his ability as a player have to do with his ability in a directors role.

Sometimes. But it is unnecessary.

Omitting it and saying equivalent " through the rest of 2025/2026", if anything, is a nice gesture. It doesn't mean that he has any future beyond this season but avoids using the word "interim" which can undermine and degrade. He is not "lesser" head coach, he is the head coach for a limited time.

I like how they handled it, to be honest. No need to read too much into it

I was praying for Amorim to get the sack and to get someone, anyone else in.

Now that it's happened... I don't feel excited. I don't think it's Carricks fault, I just think it's very hard to get excited about us anymore.

Do we have a plan in place if he tanks completely and have us 15th or so after about 10 matches?

When was the last time we had a genuinely quality central midfield?
Probably 2009.

Carrick himself admitted his form dropped after the Barcelona final due to losing confidence, and he didn't get back to top form again until 2012. By then Scholes and Giggs couldn't be relied on to play consistently, Fletcher was ill and Anderson couldn't stay fit.

So almost 20 years.

My post was slightly tongue in cheek but we all know the script now and what you say is right. It almost feels like the Head Coach is merely the fall guy for Wilcox.

I listened for years to everybody saying we need a DoF, but if this is how looks then I’m not sure a) it is the answer or b) we’re actually doing it right. Surely the DoF should never be getting too involved in tactics, leave that to the guys who are working with the players on a daily basis, who understand their strengths and weaknesses, and who are spending hours studying stats and the opposition every week. I don’t know. I actually feel like we’ve gone from one extreme to the other, whilst the answer lies somewhere in the middle with a more holistic approach.

Wish him luck but the state of this club. No signings in January and hoping for an Interim coach to fix a mess where there's holes in the squad.

INEOS are turning out to be equivalent to the Glazers.

Best of luck Carrick regardless.

Who gives a feck? This club is an absolute farce. I honestly can’t wait to see the back of Ratcliffe and INEOS.

I know. But it seems a bit odd that no word "interim" is used.
United did that with Ragnick and it was obvious that it was till the end of that season.
Not that I am against it or what.

Let's go Carrick!
