Michael Carrick - Head Coach for the remainder of the season

Carrick has achieved in 3 weeks what it took Amorim to achieve in 11 months with a preseason and summer transfer window...with tougher appointments

Yeah but Amorim's system needed three years and then it was suddenly going to be amazing. We've now thrown that opportunity away.

Glad for him to get the win. Perhaps rode his luck with some subs later than I would have liked but deserved it I guess for his confidence in the players.

Well done again Michael Carrick.

He's won 2 big games but as the heavy underdog. This was a very different test and he's passed again.

Fulham are playing well as of late. 3 difficult games and 9 points, this would have been a shit show had the previous manager survived.

Chuffed with the result but the performance shouldn't go unnoticed. We weren't awful and had some decent in-possession play but anyone getting carried away about Carrick getting the job would do well to calm down off the back of that. Still not reliably maintaining control against low-mid block teams and still particularly bad at holding a lead. That could have easily been a Ten Hag or Amorim performance, not much has changed.

Essentially the last 3 games have gone about as well as I could have wished them to go but the City game was the only one where I saw something vaguely different from a United perspective. Spurs and West Ham before the international break - if we see some improvement in those matches in terms of possession and xGD then there's some room for optimism, but at the moment I'd be pretty cautious about getting on the Carrick hype train.

He doing great but need to help him out here wilcox and co and get him a midfielder on loan.

Ugarte chap is piss. We get someone in to rotate with casemiro we be ok. Manoo been very good and Bruno in 10 been brilliant

Yep Amorim did 3 in a row after almost a year in charge.

It took Carrick 3 games. I do think a draw would have been fair but we took our extra chance at the end and came out on top

Btw last 6 games now looks like - 3 draws, 3 wins. We're in title winning form with better form than Arsenal - 2 draws, 3 wins, 1 loss

Its certainly realistic to catch Aston Villa who have 3 losses, 1 draws and 2 wins and only 5 points in front now

Thought the subs werent great today. Both personnel and timing.

Maguire clearly needed help and/or get subbed off before he gave away the penalty, and Sesko for Mbeumo might have helped with our defensive shape. Also thought Maz should have come on earlier for Dalot who looked to have switched off somewhat after the 2nd goal.

3 wins in a row. Who was the last manager who did this, Ole? Or did ten Hag manage 3 in a row?

Edit: Okay, just read it above. Amorim actually managed that, never would have thought so.
Ole & Jose before him.

Thats a personnel issue you can only mitigate to an extent it would persist no matter who the coach is until midfield is fixed .

Under Amorim, we lose that and most people blâme players.
Carrick win that and he is not good enough.
I love the logic of some of the caftards.

It was not perfect but we are a work in progress and we had 3 very difficult games and got 9 points. Could not ask for more.

Wasn't a convincing win. Simply fell apart when Casemiro came off. Ugarte again struggling to come up with the goods when Casemiro goes off.

Maguire needed taking off 5 minutes before the penalty, you could see he was struggling. Still no 100% of Cunha being a starter just yet, but it's good we have no choice to stick with him, hopefully he puts it together.

9 points out of 9. I would have taken 5 when Carrick took the job.

Please, please, please, make a a midfield signing to help or replace Casemiro! Ugarte is just not that guy.

I thought we played well at times but it was also evident that Mbuemo wasn't as effective at CF as he was in previous games. Sesko should have come on at 60mins at least. I wish he had subbed off Shaw as we need a fit LB now that Dorgu is out.

But great determination from the team, Carrick & the backroom team have brought back the fighting spirit.

Considering Fulham were just below us and playing well, does that make Tottenham Carrick's first real test.

It would indeed.
And well done Michael for playing the players in their best position. They look so much freer than before.

Obviously great to get the win, but there were some things there that I hope to see improve as the remainder of the season wears on.

Most notably the fact that when Fulham got the ball we seemed to just slowly fall deeper and deeper as they moved up the field, allowing Fulham to quite easily push right up near our box. I've seen a lot of posts complaining about it after they scored their first goal, but we were actually doing it all game. That low block means we have a lot of numbers defending around the box, but it also means the opposition gets a lot of possession in those areas as well. Long term I hope to see us get more control of both the ball and field position.

In saying that, the ease that they got in behind Maguire in that lead-up to the penalty perhaps show why we had to do that. Maguire-Martinez are probably the slowest defensive pair in the league, and if we push up it will leave a lot of space in behind them to run into. On top of that our central midfield is also quite slow, so perhaps the low block is compensating for our lack of pace through the centre of the field. It's why even though Maguire was very good for the last couple of games (up until that penalty) I do find myself hoping that Yoro or Heaven get a chance and claim that spot. Not that they (especially Heaven) are particularly fast themselves, but they are faster than Maguire and Martinez.

Even 2-0 up at OT, I don’t trust this team to steer us to a comfortable win. The quality goes through the floor once Casemiro goes off and it’s so integral that we invest in at least two centre mids this year.

I hope Carrick realises he has to set up differently against a team like Fulham. I feel like this is a sobering tonic to the people who were getting carried away last week.

While it’s a win, it should be a warning to our players and coaching staff to not get complacent.

Lots of valuable data for Carrick from today. Team tends to bottle it, and lose focus.

Hopefully Berrada was watching closely, too.

We had a lack of strength in depth in midfield. We do tire.

We don’t bottle it. When we equalised, we went for it.

We have had 18 months of scraping wins and sitting back on the rare occasion we were winning. That will take a bit of time to rectify.

Congrats on the run of results everyone, you all deserve a break from the horrors of the last few years.

I hope Carrick works out and wins a title here.

Time will do some part of the job indeed, and yes, we'll need regular starters that won't need subbing, every game to sustain pressure on oppponent.

Since final vs Spurs, this team reeks of absolute bottle, and needs some serious squad tweaks too, imo.

When have we ‘bottled it?’

Amazing result and stick to what's working when we're winning and not really needing to rest the squad with one match per week.

Saying that, same XI for 3 matches in a row, bar Cunha today. I get the thought behind of building momentum and putting out the strongest team, but flip side is we have a huge squad and we played against Fulham at home - a shite side - and maybe tactics needed to be tweaked a bit better to have others play a bit more.

Interesting to see how we line up next, but Congrats to the coaching staff and the players for the run of results.

It's an arbitrary "requirement" if at all, but I'd really like to see him put a poor team properly to the sword at some point, talking 4+ goal differential.

Fulham are in really good form and only a few places below us, this was a very good win today.

2 superb results and performances, hand forced by injury and Cunha into one change today, would have been nuts to start changing more.

Imagine we may see a couple of changes next week now.

The near bottle job aside from going 2-0 up, I was more encouraged by today's result than the the previous two funny enough. If Carrick manages to iron out some of the defensive brainfarts, he should be able to hobble over the line in the top 4 race which should place him at the front of the managerial shortlist. Job will be his if that's the case, withstanding someone like Enrique suddenly deciding he fancies the challenge.

Amorim managed it this season

Amorim never had 3 league games in a row. He only had 3 in a row with a cup game. Which is mental considering he was at the club for 18 months.
