Michael Carrick - Head Coach for the remainder of the season

Anyway, another good win and, all told, a better performance than the Fulham game I thought.

Obviously the red card changes the game, but as we saw earlier in the season taking advantage of it isn't a given. And we looked fairly comfortable. It was just a matter of getting that second goal to kill the game.

He's doing very well.

I can understand the nervousness of some against Carrick getting the permanent job. There are obvious parallels with Ole. And if there is the chance of securing a serial league and CL winner like Enrique, it's something that needs to be seriously considered.

But if you were someone who thought Amorim deserved more time maybe even as far back as the summer, whilst now thinking Carrick shouldn't get the job in summer if he continues to do a good job... You need to give your head a wobble.

We shouldn't be judging Carrick by different criteria just because he is a former player. He has got this squad playing infinitely better in 4 games compared to anything Amorim achieved in 18 months.
If we can get someone like Enrique or Naglesmann we absolutely should get them.

If Carrick does well and those absolute elites are out of reach then he should be given a fair chance. I want a coach that can make us a team that dominates teams big and small.

I can't tell if you're not actually reading my posts, or just not understanding them, so I'm just going to end this repetitive discussion here.
What is your actual argument though? We’ve won four in a row, played good football, been fun to watch and the team actually look like they’ve been enjoying it out there.

It’s a breath of fresh air and the results we’ve had are very well deserved. If that continues until the end of the season, it’s a no brainer. I don’t really care about what happened with Ole. For every Ole, there has been 4 or 5 high-reputation, continental managers that have come in and failed.

The best thing that can happen to Michael Carrick right now is for the board to do nothing right now. Let him continue to win games without distractions.

Clearly given the players more freedom and belief to try things. Probably could have been more proactive in bringing on Sesko once it became evident we weren’t getting space in behind for Mbueno

What was it like under Ole, we won 7-8 in a row, lost at home to PSG and overturned that in the away leg, and after he was made permanent we piled up the losses. They are of course not the same person and Ole took over a team that had finished #2 while Carrick is taking over a team that was hanging around 6th-7th after having finished 15th.

But there is absolutely no need to make a decision and I'd be surprised if "walk to the right decision" Ratcliffe would do so.

They say teams are usually a reflection of the manager. Under Carrick, our play has largely been measured and controlled just like Carrick the player. Love it. Now let’s go get that 5th win next!

Let him win 12 out of 15 and then make a decision. Quote this.

Agreed. We are lucky that there’s more than enough time for us to see what Carricks team looks like against a range of opposition, and to assess whether he is tactically capable of a role this big.

We could have brought in a lot of managers and been challenging for the title, that was pretty obvious to many of us. But happy we did it and even more happy it was Carrick who got it. Such a breath of fresh air, long may it continue!

Really like our quick incisive passing. We look like we can turn it on at anytime, that's how we can respond easily to flip the game back if we have a bad 5-10 mins.

There’s no indication that anything other than this will happen.

Fully expected the appointment to be analysed at the end of the season when he joined. Nothing has changed.

Every barber in the city should have a Carrick special next week

For Ole I think it was 2 wins of 10 matches for the rest of the season after getting the permanent job.

For Carrick, I'd say the club should just keep it all quiet and see the season out and enjoy the wins

While true, if we keep up our current form we're in the title race.

Its unlikely we will be quite so red hot, but I think theres a very good chance we get 1 more win against West Ham

We had the best form in the league going into the Spurs game and then we won again. Cant be overstated how well we're doing, it is championship winning form

All the fundamentals for being a top team are there.

Scoring goals,
Not leaking goals,
Our GK is not man of the match every other weekend,
Fewer Yellow cards,
We are not chasing games,
Every player is contributing,
OT is bouncing again,

Think he was too late with his subs in the second half. Needed something different a bit earlier.

But that’s nitpicking in the grand scheme. Delightful to have won four in a row. Seemed impossible a few months ago.

Is it a new manager bounce or what?

The new manager bounce is usually the players trying to impress a new manager and earn their place in the team. This doesn't feel like it. The squad is too thin for a genuine competition, and outside Maino, this is the same group of players that stared under Amorim.

It feels more like the players have been unshackled and are now enabled to do the best they can do, and they're loving it.

Is it a new manager bounce or what?
Moreso players being put in their best positions again allowing them to show their ability and thrive

We genuinely have quiet a solid squad talent wise at our disposal this season, as much as many tried to claim the opposite earlier in the season

My point is that a run of results alone isn't enough to mean someone should be permanent manager. No matter how good the results are, they also have to convince in both the approach and performances.

So far from Carrick we've seen three games in which the opposition had more of the ball than us, and one game against 10 men we've dominated. Which in the context those particular games, is absolutely no problem at all, it's very positive stuff. It was three tough games, and we took advantage of the ten men well.

But if we don't see much more than that across the rest of the season, or if we consistently let opponents have the ball more than they should, or if we struggle to break teams down when we have more of the ball, or if we end up with a lot of lucky results, then he shouldn't get the job. Even if the results are great.

Which isn't me saying that will happen, or criticising anything Carrick has done so far. He hasn't had the chance to answer those "ifs" yet. But that's what he should have to do to be appointed permanent manager, and that requires more than just results, and more than the types of performances we've seen so far. Which is why saying "if this form continues, he should get the job" is wrong.

Yea, wondering if there is a rationale for not bringing on Sesko earlier
