Best part about this is the timing of the announcement. Right between tuchel WC squad announcement. Shifts the focus away from him. Peak carrick that! Wish he continues to get the job done and the board backs him well and gets the deals across the line for the pre season, one of the most important in our recent times

There are a few supposed targets who are not going to the World Cup, so hope they don't sit on their hands and get business sorted early. Makes it easier for Michael if he can have a lot of first team squad to work with in pre-season. Actually Alex Scott is one of the younger players going to Flordia to cover for missing Arsenal players and Dean Henderson.
Two year contract seems sensible. One year doesn’t work for anyone and no stupid six year ones like 13 years ago.
Our recruitment is highly critical though. Ideally we need 4-5 top signings to the point that Carrick can have no excuses in 4-5 months time if he’s not getting the results.

Now I hope he gets the support from the club and fans to build this team. That doesn’t mean ‘backing him’ with endless funds, but the club buying the right players with right profiles to build and build for the medium/ longer term.

While I can't help but be somewhat apprehensive, it's hard to say that he doesn't deserve it. Loved the guy as a player and hopefully he can be similarly successful as the manager.
I'm glad, I think he deserved it by the end and I'm confident he can keep us at a CL level

Delighted for him, he’s done really well so far. The fans and the players are right behind him. We just need to back him and improve the team to give him the best possible chance of taking us forward next season. But regardless, this is a high note to end the season.
Good luck to him. Hopefully he can improve performances next season, because there was a big mismatch between them and results which isn’t sustainable. It’s a gamble. Transfer window will be critical.

Dont think we made the right choice, hope I am wrong, hope he is the one. Now back him with transfers. But also be decisive if it’s clear he isn’t good enough. Dont be repeating the same mistakes from the past, give support, but don’t hesitate to act if things don’t work out.

I feel like I've read almost this exact post loads already. I get the doubt but I hope we're collectively going to give him a proper chance, not call him a PE teacher 20 times a day until the inevitable slump gives an opportunity to say I told you so.

He deserved it. Not sure we also had a better option on the market and Luis Enrique seems like a pipedream.
I like the appointment and think he deserves it, but I do think it confirms we won't challenge for the title for at least a few years.
You saw with Arteta how many years it took him to work out how to finally get over the line despite being close. That makes all the difference and it's something Carrick will need to figure out himself.

My theory is he was chosen because he would be seen as posing the least resistance for recruitment, as opposed to any other potential head coach, due to my personal belief that the hierarchy is prioritising player recruitment over the head coach position.
They want to build a quality squad first and then find the right head coach.
In this era, players far outstay managers/ coaches.
It seems a sensible decision. Get it done early, and now try and get a couple of deals done quickly before the WC.
the difference between him and the PE teacher is that he already coached 3 years in England before taking the job and in the Championship but didn't relegate Boro to get them there. Also he has finished the season on high note compared to 2 wins in 9 games.

Fair enough. I had been dissatisfied with the performances, but this latest game assuaged me. Good sense to not give him a 6-year contract or whatever.
