If Carrick is the choice we do need to look into finding some more experienced assistant coaches (apart from Holland). We need a lot of work on our passing, shooting, pressing and defending.

Quite a chunk of that is down to players. No coach in the world is making Zirkzee good enough for Manchester United.
Who needs Alonso when we have our own in Carrick! Next season will be an acid test of his credentials with European football - but a decent showing in Europe and a top 5 finish would be a great start.

I get that people have been scarred by Ole (which was actually a pretty good tenure all told) but Carrick has done great.
If he was judged by the same standard as that utter halfwit Amorin we would be calling for a knighthood at this point.

Counter attacks under him can be devastating, but really wish it was less chaotic at our end also. Obviously a better midfield should help with that, we desperately need more control in there.
Loved how his speech was about the players as a group. A group of good people he said. He even asked fans to cheer for Malacia who's had a rough time with long term injury. Hopefully we won't have toxic players anymore.
We also need CBs who can push a higher line and compact that space in the middle. We drop back and invite teams on too often.

Dorgu has played well under Carrick and scored that worldie against Arsenal. The others haven't played well for him. That's fair.
Watching his post match speech at OT and it's a stark difference from these speeches under ETH or Amorim - He really gets this club and seems like he can handle media pressure well.
And dorgu who was fantastic until under carrick until he got a injury and was also good in the minutes played since. People are just crazy - you would need to play like in a YouTube highlights video for not getting criticized. Even Bruno is getting shit from some on here

It's been so lovely to be regularly winning games again. The 2 and a half seasons before Carrick came in we could barely win 2 in a row.
What a dreadful post
For me the biggest lesson from Amorim disaster was that no manager should get so much time if they can't make any impact within the first six months. Yes managers deserve time but if you are so bad that then you deserve to go as soon as possible.
This reminds me of that infamous Moyes quote in 2014 about which areas United need to improve.

I'm not sure that Dorgu deserved this description either given that he has started only 2 games for Carrick and scored in both. Against City and Arsenal too.
With City and Arsenal as our next two games. We would of lost them under Ruben and probably dropped to tenth.
There are probably some scenarios where he gets sacked despite getting CL.
If we do bad in all cups and scrape 5th on the final day with generally poor performances and a low points tally, I think that would be it.
But yes in general we'll be in the Ole position if he keeps getting CL qualification it will feel too harsh to get rid.

Amazes me that our fans thought blaming everyone else and taking no accountability was something to be praised in our managers.
ETH and Amorin mastered that, just throw the players under the bus and insinuate the club let you down, fans lapped it up for far too long.
Exactly, the manager needs to earn his time and earn his adoration from the fans. We need to stop idolising managers, especially when they have achieved nothing here. "Suffering" is not a necessity in order to improve and never has been at any other club, people need to stop just adopting whatever our managers say as fact. Amorim was clearly a dead horse from early on and not taking action could have cost us dearly.

People would have you believe that we're some counter attack merchant as if they don't watch the games. This moves have been a Hallmark of Carrick ball. It's very effective.
Of course we'll need to do better out of possession especially pressing, but I think that's more about getting more mobile players in midfield. Get Carrick some really good midfielders and we could really surprise everyone next season.

He probably needs 2 fast CBs to play us front foot style football all game. With the current CBs playing there, it would be quite achievement for him to do that.

I don’t think that’s the part people found dreadful.
I just don't think they understood the history, the things to say in the media to get the best out of our fans (I've been a United fan since the early 2000s, dad's a long time United fan too despite living overseas - but having the fans behind you and creating a siege mentality together with the fans at OT was a big contributing factor to our success under Fergie). I think managing at United requires an arm around the shoulder / hairdryer treatment approach with the players in combo, and giving the boys confidence to play our style - Van Gaal, Jose, Ole, Amorim and ETH did one and not the other from my POV?
We need a few pieces to be challenging on multiple fronts - so the board will need to back Carrick - at least 20 good players who'd be starters for most teams which is how it was under SAF (And is currently at City, Arsenal etc.), but until we have that Carra should be able to get top 4 consistently with this squad.
I'm confident Carra can do the whole good cop/bad cop routine well (He'll have backing from the board / mgmt unlike say Ole to make the hard decisions + I think a few players like Bruno, Maguire will support him). We're a special club not too dissimilar from Madrid so we need someone who understands our strengths, sets up to play good a good balance of counterattacking and possession football (By possession football I don't mean Guardiola style - But that Fergie style where we keep some possession, take risks against lower sides especially and batter them relentlessly, putting the fear of god into any team that comes to OT. That's the style we loved watching!), handles media assertively, handles the players well, but also has 20 or so first-team grade players at their disposal to create competition for players.
Scholes, Rio, Vida etc. talk about training games under Fergie were harder / more competitive than actual games and players were fighting to get into the team - we need that, and I'm sure Carrick understands that being a serial winner with us as a player. Carra's a really respectful/calm guy so you can't help but wish the best for him, I hope he does well at United!
