That doesn't mean much to me these days. You ever watch a game and have such a contrasting view on one player compared to another poster such that you question if they're seeing the same game? Some posters thought Powell was excellent today for instance. Yikes
All the time. Regular players who fit into this category are Kagawa and Welbeck for me.

And yes, thinking Powell was "excellent" is pretty poor. I actually think he had some good moments, but showed signs of a person who hadn't seen much football recently.

Amidst squeaky bums.
So this is a knee jerk reaction then?

I thought he was the least worst of the three centre backs though that still meant he was pretty awful. Of the three goals after Evans' gift two of them were down the left hand side where Vermijl and Evans were dreadful. Not sure how one pretty terrible rushed pass suddenly makes him a bad passer either but I guess that's probably down to people rushing to judge a player they've watched in all of about 3 games.
I have watched United for the last 18 years and follow all Reserves and pre-season games he has been involved him. I'd say I've watched him over 50 times in the past three/four years? And I just don't rate him. If you think differently, I don't have a problem with that!

He was decent vs. Sunderland.People need to stop rewriting history just to fit their argument.
Agreed. He was good vs Sunderland after the inital 5-10 minutes infact. His distribution that game was better than blackett as well including the pass to set up the RVP/Young penalty incident.

Its unfair to claim thay Blackett always was bettet than him.. Blackett was seen mainly as a LB and after his previous season's loan I doubt anyone would have rated him higher than Keane!

He's thriving playing as the LCB, suits his style of play and he seems to have adapted to LvG's style of play very quickly. Keane and even the rest of our senior defenders are still getting to grips with the 3-5-2 imo, I think we should cut Keane some slack.

Off to Burnley apparently.

Not fully clear yet what the terms are but mirror said they are trying for a 3/4 million permanent deal.

Hope it's a loan.

Good loan deal for him. Damn, almost fall from my seat when I saw "off to Burnley" I thought we were about to sell another one.

So we now only have 5 CB's for a 3 man back line, I wonder if that means we are moving to 4-3-3.

Surely means we're going with 4 at the back. Good deal assuming he'll start the majority of their games.

Good to see him get a Premiership loan. Hopefully Nick Powell and Michael Keane get games. It will be interesting to see how both fare.

Probably good for his career in terms of getting plenty of mins at PL level, having already had Championship experience, but also a sign that LVG rates Blackett more highly at the moment. Given the respective ages of our central defenders right now, I think Michael Keane faces quite a challenge if he's to start plenty of games for United in the future.

I had high hopes for him when he played a few games for us when Fergie was still here. Looked pretty bad this year though, maybe he can still come good.

I think this sale is very telling that we will be moving to a 4 defender system.

Do you think there is a chance in hell we would have sold him if we still wanted 3 at the back?

Odd one to loan out, particularly when we didn't bring in a CB on deadline day. I'd assume this means that we are going to scrap the idea of playing with a back three, as we just don't have the depth to handle a few injuries.
Hopefully he does well over there and gets plenty of game time.

Maybe not. 5 CB's true. But, maybe Van Gaal sees Vermeijl as a good player or Tom Thorpe. Could promote another one of the youth lads. He did it at Bayern in the form of Badstuber and Alaba. Who would have thought Blackett could be a solid presence for us this season? You just never know.

Daley Blind is comfortable at CB. At last he started his career there.

True but he will be a midfielder as he rightly should. He won Dutch Player of The Year as a DM for crying out loud. He will be played there. THe Fall back will be Blind, you're right.

It will be Vermijl or Thorpe if LVG persist on 3 at the back, considering they still haven't go on loan or sold.

I hope it's 4-3-3/4-2-3-1)

But even if we play 3-5-2 with Rojo - Evans - Jones......then we've Smalling, Blackett and Blind

I don't think the numbers are the problem....no world-class defender is the problem
Well I am hoping we are going to see Blind as a holding CM as we don't have another until Carrick comes back, and while none of our CB's are proven world class I think this is their season to really try and prove they can be and a traditional back 4 would help with that IMO.

I think it's great to see youth promoted but not too many at once. Jones and Smalling are really being promoted to full time CB's this season, Rojo is new to the league and Blackett is getting his chance, that's enough inexperience to be going on with I feel.

If Blind isn't CB then Smalling isn't aswell as he played RB for something like 3 last years. More than Blind isn't playing CB.
what a ridiculous comment. Blind is as good CB as Carrick, people saying that he will come good as versatile player are right but he will play 90% of his matches in the middle at least this season. He is slow for LB/LWB for United with not many tricks, Shaw, Rojo even young James should start over him, as CB he won't start over Blackett being our most inexperienced centre back.
