Van De Ven would be phenomenal if he didnt rely entirely on recovery pace. Or get injured all the time.

If we do bring him or another cb in surely that means someone’s leaving? Maguire, Martinez, De Ligt, Heaven, Yoro and a new CB is too much, even taking into consideration the inability of some of those to stay fit. I personally wouldn’t be opposed to seeing one of Martinez or De Ligt leaving due to fitness but can’t see there being much interest unless it’s at a vastly cut price.

It's hardly just an LVG obsession. Almost every top side ideally wants a left-footed LCB, as it changes how you play out from defence and how the opposition can press you.

He just seems a bit of a fast reckless plonker. I think he's spoken about as a better defender than he actually is.

Thing is, that pace is what we need. Being able to play s higher line is a huge upgrade to balance against his negatives.

Would be in the Rojo, Bailly category for defenders. Has qualities and will give you decent performances here and there but his negatives will put way the positives. And then some.
He plays full back for his national team often right? He could maybe be a better option there and cover at CB? He should not be purchased as a first choice CB and he is definitely the weaker of Spurs' two CBs.
We need more injured CBs.
Hard pass. We’ve five CBs, all of which I’d prefer ahead of him. And even if we move one on, we should be looking at other options.

I don't mind his pace making up for defensive weaknesses (because recovery pace is exactly what we need), but you just know with that "dynamic" profile he's just one injury away from turning into Martinez. We need someone fast but also rarely injured.

Don't see him as a United player anyway, as others have said he needs a club where referees are lenient, which is Liverpool all day long, certainly not United.
Also the only way he moves for anything like a reasonable price is if Spurs are actually relegated, which is unlikely given West Ham's fixtures. They will price him out of any move if they retain their Premier League status. If he wants to move then he will need to start sabotaging them in the remaining fixtures, but how would we tell the difference?

The class of player we get linked to now is utterly tragic. Remember the days of uuming or aaing over actual CL players?

Van De Ven is a weird one. He's 6ft4 but he's shit in terms of aerial duels. Despite his size he's incredibly fast and he's an amazing dribbler yet most of that pace is used to cover for his clumsiness. He's almost in the wrong role.
I can understand why United would want him. He's built for a high line defense and his speed would compliment Maguire and De Ligt beautifully. Yet his lack of aerial prowess and his injuries is a major red flag. Thus I wouldn't want him at our club

We have a disregard for Heaven for some reason
If Spurs stay up then he would cost more than twice what he's worth.

I’m leaning towards we find his ability to play LB useful. We don’t need a CB unless any leave, but having the cover would be nice.
Van de Ven is playing in a struggling Spurs side. He’s got an unreliable keeper behind him, Romero is a flight risk, full-backs aren’t great defensively I could go on.
He’s quick, strong, young, good on the ball. Injuries are a concern but if he stay fit, there’s a good player there.

He's 25, about to enter his prime years as a CB. He has deficiencies in his game, but also pronounced strengths. If he's available for 40-45 million, I would go for him. I think he would be a similar level to Martinez. Not world class but can do a decent job. Martinez is way better on the ball than him but he's a better defender (owing mostly to his pace).
Would rather someone who can stay fit
and is in talks to sign a new one, but even if he decides not to sign and we sell him in the summer instead, he'll cost more than van de ven
I'd consider him as a LB option, but I'm not convinced he's any better than Heaven at CB.
I think you underrate the unrealistic amount of money Spurs would want for VDV
If you have to say that about any player they aren't worth signing.
