Micky Van De Ven

Maguire would be the problem in that made up scenario.

Van Hecke is a better and more intelligent player overall, better defender, technically a much better footballer and more awareness and variety in his use of the ball. Plus he's pretty good at breaking forward and linking up higher up the pitch when needed.

VDV has a bit more pace, that's really it.
He can properly step into midfield and go up top in dying mins, a la Maguire.

God help us if we couldn't find any CB other than this guy. I'd even take Senesi and he's available for nothing! I honestly have no idea why we are not being linked to that guy.

I think you underrate the unrealistic amount of money Spurs would want for VDV

Maybe the standard at Brighton is just to massively overrate their own players.

In any case both players would be priced above what would be sensible for us.

Makes too much sense for us not to be involved.

Allows us to play further up the pitch even next to Harry Maguire.

Yea injury prone and expensive. Either hijack the Senesi deal or get Vuskovic (long term investment)

Guess he can play as a left back as well? Could that be the thinking

Hence why our interest is dependent on Spurs getting relegated. We are seeking an opportunity.

Does this mean we're considering selling Martinez or loaning out Heaven?

No way we need all 3 with Shaw also around for emergencies. Would prefer Senesi over spending £60-70m on VdV, so unless he has a super cheap relegation clause (eg. £35m) then I'm not too keen - and if he does I'm sure they'll be lots of takers for him.

He's injury prone and vastly overrated along with many spurs players

The only 2 I would take is Porro and the young lad Bergvall (albeit its not the position we need, but if we had space for him I would take him)
Who are you referring to when you say 'not the position we need'?

Bergvall is in the exact position we need to add this summer at CM. Some would even argue we could do with a new RB too - not a priority though like CM.

He's more attacking than CM imo. Although with this spurs team who knows where some of their players ate best suited there a shambles from back to front

I said I'd sign Porro i didn't put a caveat with him so we agree on that

Isn't he the quickest CB in the PL? Also play LB. Can see why we would be interested at the right price.

We're after a left footed/sided CB apparently
If that's true, I'm not sure why. Martinez and Heaven are fine as left footers, and we've got two or three others who can cover that position.

If we do target a CB, it should probably be one to take de Ligt's place. His back injury sounds problematic

Martinez can't stay fit

I really like him but if he’s injury prone then it’ll be a no from me

Once VDV’s pace goes, he’ll be an absolute liability. It’s the only thing he has going for him.

Not very good, injury prone and a questionable attitude. Even on a free I'd be hoping we avoid.

Us, Liverpool and apparently some major European clubs interested.

His speed, ball carrying and tackling ability highly valued.

Injury prone? But missed 7 days this season. If that’s the fear. I’ll take that.

Being young and fast hamstring injuries are an issue. But you can deal with that if managed well. I.e. getting him doing some flipping yoga.

There are people at United who believe Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro will develop to be as good a partnership as Arsenal pair Gabriel and William Saliba.

That's a lot of hope.

If they get relegated they will need to have a fire sale to offset the drop in TV revenue. In that case he won't cost more than 45 million at most I'd guess.

I know DataMB and these types of graphs can be iffy but they can be used as a decent starting point for reflection. That starting point indicates he's completely wank at being an actual defender and a liability at CB -

I agree about those tables sometimes being misleading but if the stats are accurate and he actually only wins 22% of his aerial duels then that's appalling.

He's a giant lump too. Genuinely atrocious.

I've liked what I've seen when I've seen him play previously. Looked great at CB at times, and that pace would always be a serious asset while he has it.

He's always injured though I feel, and not sure we need to be paying the big wages it would take for a player with availability issues.

Some mentioned his attitude is a problem too. Can't say I know the ins and outs of that, but with how Spurs are at the moment, I'd certainly believe they are a poor group mentally.

Stay away from anyone who's been part of this Spurs debarcle this season.

Micky isn't really that good a defender. Relies on the pace too much, which makes him injury prone. Eventually injuries take the pace away and he's bang average. Take the pace away and you wouldn't be shelling out money for him. I'd rather take Senesi on a free.

There really doesn't seem to be much more to his game beyond the pace. Ironically, he would've probably made a decent WB in an Amorim 3-4-3 setup.

Spurs have the 4th worst defense in the league. Its one of the reasons they might be relegated

Romero and Danso are better than him. So he's the 3rd best CB at the club with the 4th worst defensive record

He might be okay as a leftback backup. He's not good enough at CB
