Midfielders -- Other than the "obvious"

Mateus Fernandes getting some hype on Twitter today after that performance. Looked really good IMO, very Anderson like. I'd take him.
To be fair, he's more of an obvious signing.

Does so many things (relevant to midfield play) at a good level, and given how much time he has on his side, he could develop into someone who does many things at a close-to-elite level. If Anderson is intent on joining Manchester City, as certain reports seem to suggest, we could do a lot worse than Fernandes.

Functionally and stylistically, he just seems to fit the bill. Anderson is a bit more authoratative, further along as a relatively secure high-volume passer and more decisive in the final third, but Fernandes is 1¾ years younger and could feasibly level up in those aspects in a structured environment.

For me Anderson is number 1 priority.

Then Fernandes as my number 2, I think he would be competing with Mainoo more than being the Casemiro replacement.

I think Stiller could be an interesting option. Wouldn't break the bank either.
If you are referring to his release clause, that is deceptive. Stuttgart can trigger a clause and buy it off him for 3 million. So he basically doesn’t have a release clause at all.

Hes got swagger, elegant and great vision

Exactly the kind of midfielder that ends up far away from us. Or maybe in the same town but different team
He's been linked with Atletico and Barca recently. Surprised no prem teams are linked yet. Especially considering his performances in the ucl against City and Newcastle.

Saw something earlier saying Santos would likely be valued at around £35 million which I think we should be all over if true, if Anderson is City bound then Santos and Wharton plus another like Chema Andres would be a fantastic trio to bring in to revamp the midfield.

Would snap their hand off at that price. I seriously doubt that to be true though. I definitely believe we be interested, I'm pretty sure we inquired about him with the Garnacho deal.

Yeah we definitely tried to sign him then, would be great to sign alongside an Anderson/Bruno G/Tonali/Wharton and one of them Real midfielders (pipe dream I know)

Rio Ferdinand is saying you should buy Kees Smit.

You shouldn't.

He is hardly an under the radar name, but dont see him get mentioned much on here. Going against the grain, I do think now is the time to sell Bruno Fernandes and Nicolas Paz is the player to replace him

Is he even that good? I remember him from some youth tournament and he was good. But, he hasn't progressed at all since then.
And he looks like a 10 to me.

Being from the Netherlands, presumably, you presumably will have seen a lot of him - but may I ask why you think that exactly?
He's talented, but not at all the finished product. He shows glimpses of class, but not consistently.

He's a 10 yes and he's talented, but also being overrated in my opinion. We're just pining for the classical 10 in The Netherlands. The new Bergkamp if you will.

Every team seems to be focused on the midfielders in Premier League that they're completely sleeping on the potential gems to be had from La Liga. Barcelona have 8 midfielders for 3 spots, and 6 of those playing deeper are Pedri, Gavi, Casado, Frenkie de Jong, Bernal and Garcia. Marc Casado is rumoured to be looking for a way out in the summer, and we should not be sleeping here. Exceptional talent, and we should be all over him. Bernal should also be one we should look out for, but I highly doubt he wants out, he's their next Busquets.

Real Madrid got a similar problem to Barcelona, they won't be able to please all their midfielders with enough playtime. They got Bellingham, Valverde, Tchouameni, Camavinga, Güler and Ceballos for their midfield, surely at least one could be lured out. My guess would be Camavinga or Ceballos, both struggle with injury issues, although Ceballos' don't seem to have serious ones anymore. I reckon we should be looking at Dani Ceballos despite his age, rumours that he wants out and that Real Madrid are only asking for €15-20m which would be a no-brainer, in my opinion.

Then you got Antonio Blanco for Alaves, a product of Real Madrid academy before moving to Alaves, although he is a level or two below the others, but he looks like a Zubimendi lite and could potentially be a very good signing. Don't think Alaves would be in a position to ask for much.

We definitely need to be looking outside for 1 or 2 of them so we can actually afford multiple.

Anyone seen Ismael Kone?

Was basically humiliated and kicked out of his club by De Zerbi.

Has found a home playing next to Matic at Sassuolo.

He has the talent. He's actually Canada's most talented player (yes more talented than Davies). Glides with the ball. Big, strong and fast. Can pass and shoot well.

Has tendency to switch off or play with little intensity which probably won't translate to England. It does seem that the big Italian clubs want him. He's probably not ready for the big time with his past attitude problems.

Sorry, I just wanted to post about a Canadian player.

City seems to be keen on Sporting Captain Morten Hjulmand, who can go for around 50 mio. Juventus is reportedly also interested. Are we still in the game for him?

I'm actually convinced this is another City sleeper agent brief to media to try and see if we are still interested in him as we were under Amorim.

He's a decent player but not what we personally need this summer I don't think.
