I am unmoved by this news.

For me, what matters more is the overall structure. Get a brilliant DoF, sort out scouting, squash player power and ensure the manager is undoubtedly THE boss. And then get rid of deadwood and other players whose hearts are no longer here. Finally, spend well to recruit very good players who are hungry to play for United.

If we do these, even an averagely talented managerial team, will get us to top four.

Let it sink in, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Mike Phelan are in charge of getting past, Pep, klopp, Pochettino and Emery! How standards have fallen.
Fergie's right hand man for a long while, and a guy who had us playing football as good as those you mention, at least for short while. It's not that bad is it? Surely he now gets to sort the team out specifically to play that football? So long as he's allowed to, the signs are positive.

Ugh. Living in the past. And not even the good part about the past. Desperate times indeed.
 Whatever one's reasons are for not wanting Phelan involved in the setup going forward, this is surely the bonafide worst of the lot. 'not even the good part about the past' - he was a main figure during our period of dominance under Fergie!

I do agree with you. However, the moment Quieroz left our football became quite a bit more shitty even under Fergie.

Some stability at last. Not sure if he is the right man but either way i am happier that there appears to be some future planning. DOF is so essential, we need a strategy seeing as the short term operations are being pieced together. I think Ole will have a good summer, getting rid of egos and bringing in players with good work ethic. Although right now football feels sh75, i feel more optimistic about the summer than i did last year.

Heard that’s he’s leaving United at the end of the season.

Not itk, no source, just trust the person who said it

I’ll be worried if it does happen. Feel he helps Olé more than we’re aware. Would hope Olé gets an experienced replacement and not just give it to Carrick. I think that’d be a disaster move for everyone

If it's true then him leaving would be an opportunity for Ole to bring in someone with fresh ideas and a different outlook. I think we generally struggle in possession and we need someone to come in and help Ole in that aspect, if Ole is staying.

If we get the right person in, it could take us to another level. Giving it to Carrick would be madness, but that’s the way the club has operated in the past few years so it would not surprise me one bit. I hope we’ve moved past this sort of thing but I’m not so sure.

Be a shame, he's part of the furniture, just hope we get an experienced balloon popper in to replace him

I usually can’t tell anymore whether he’s there because Richard Hartis is like a twin for him.

It won't be a shame and this way of thinking(part of the furniture)has to stop.

Carrick probobally needs to go too and both replaced with top class coaches.

If that's the case then maybe Ole won't be here at the end of the season either because what better job could Phelan find in football? The only way that would happen would be if the club have spoken with Poch.

It's obvious we've got Poch lock and loaded. I wouldn't be surprised if he has already signed a contract with us.

I think during that December period when things were super dire, we would have wrapped things up with Poch for the summer whether Ole does well or not.

Although Ole is utd blood, he just isn't good enough. Getting a proper manager in and having a great summer transfer-wise will give us the much needed stability that we need with a proven Premier league manager. Especially as he can actually coach players and promotes youth.

What's that got to do with cuddly Mike Phelan?

If Poch comes to us, it's highly unlikely he'll be part of the coaching set-up, as he'll probably bring in his own guys. Hence Phelan leaving at the end of the season would be a strong indication that we have Poch lined up.

OGS to be assistant.

On a serious note, it might very well be other reasons for leaving like health or family.

Well, Fred gives Carrick a lot of credit for how Fred has turned a corner and adjusted his game to the PL.

If Mike Phelan is leaving OT maybe its to do with health reasons, wasn't there the odd rumour when he was out in Australia?

I think he an Ole make a good pairing, at the moment, but not sure either that as a management pair they can take us to the next level!

I take you haven't watced us play this season.
Our performances this season do little to tell us about the individual coaching capacity of Michael Carrick. Unless you pretend that you know Carrick, or have watched him take sessions, or perhaps have the expertise to analyse his sessions, you’re merely looking at our league position and inconsistent performances and coming to a rather childish conclusion.

Speculation is fine, I guess that's what forums are for. Several reasons why Phelan may want to quit exist, a new manager coming in being only one of them. Etched in stone it is not. ( The last sentence to be read in the voice of Yoda).

There's a whole raft of reason Phelan may be leaving, hopefully it's not a health issue - and if we are jumping to conclusions maybe a successful Manager like Allegri is coming in.

And how do you know Michael Carrick isn't a top class coach?
Its hard to say with any certainty what ability any coach has, given they ultimately are not the top dog, but you can say we have been awful for several years now and Carrick is one of the only constants during that time. The club seem happy with him though and they see more than we do.

As for Phelan, didnt he take a fair bit of persuading to come back to us in the first place? Maybe he knows the writing is on the wall, maybe he just wants to go back to what he was doing before?

Is it just me or has Phelan been less visible on the bench of late?
ive been thinking/wondering this for a while as well. I’m a big fan of phelan but something doesn’t look right between all the coaches Phelan just seems isolated. Hope there’s no fall out and he’s going for right reasons if true. I think he wanted DOF role really

Pretty much all of our players are improving yet the coaches get nothing but stick on here. Bizarre.
