What is his role can someone tell me? I feel he is just there to tell stories about fergie days and how he burst some balloons. A grandpa who is here to keep himself relevant. We need proper coaching staff. Sir alex made the Phelans and all relevant, not the other way round.
I think that if Moyes didn't get rid of literally all the staff, he would have done a hell of a lot better, Mike Phelan and the other staff were obviously very good at their job and as a coaching team it worked well, I've heard ex players say Mike Phelan has a wealth of knowledge and is a good man manager,

I actually thought did a decent job when he was in charge of Hull City in the Premier League, considering the lack of quality in the squad at his disposal.

Agreed. Moyes cut off his nose to spite his face. I understand why he wanted to bring his own men aboard, but it was a crazy decision in hindsight. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Agree. When it became clear that we were hiring Moyes, I knew it was very likely to be a disaster appointment. As did most people. It was idiocy.

But the thing that gave me a little hope that it would work out was that he would have experienced staff behind him who lived and breathed the club and who would have had the respect of the players. I knew he wouldn't be inept enough to feck them off. So there was still hope.

Him sacking them all for his twats from the Merseyside job centre who looked as bemused to be there as we were, was simply confirmation that he was going to fail miserably. I don't understand his logic behind it. I would love to ask him. I cannot imagine any logical reason for it whatsoever, unless the staff themselves said they wanted to follow Sir Alex out the door, which i find very unlikely. Like, what did he actually expect to happen? It should have been much bigger news at the time than it was really because surely people realised what a bullet to the foot that was.

I'm very glad we now have a manager who understands the club. Phelan back. And people behind the scenes (Like Murtough and Fletcher) who know the club and know about football. Long may it continue.

I'm expecting him to tweet something like "Only 10 years to go!"

Agree Moyes dropped big bollock by getting rid of SAFs staff , i think he would have lasted a bit longer and who knows . Hindsight hey..

Don't know what Mike is doing nowadays. On football day, Ole seemed to be closely associated with Carrick and McK.

I am not saying we are wasting money on any assistant manager working mostly behind the scene, as I am sure Mike is still contributing in some areas. We once had 4 goalkeeper coach, more than keepers.

We could do a lot worse than bring Bruce back as defence coach.

The Saudis may have plans for him as a Geordie translator though!

Our Assistant to the Interim Interim manager looked disinterested when the cameras focused on our bench during both goal celebrations.
He probably was pissed that he did not get the title 'interim Manager'?

Looked like when you introduce your uncle to the latest sound musically.

His face was like Lingard was playing drill music on the bench.

Our Interim Assistant Manager to our Interim Manager. Or are they both in the caretaker roles? I think they are more caretaker roles till we find an interim manager.

I wonder what Phelan's actually doing now.

Effectively, Woodward stepped over him. Phelan was Ole's assistant. However, Woodward decided to go around him and promote Carrick. Someone who was junior to him in Ole's set up to temporary manager.

Last night he looked a bit lost/absent. Like he was there but not.

He’s checked out of the role and I imagine will leave the club once the new manager is in.

If you include Fergi into the picture, then it would make sense. Fergi wants his own man in the team - Mike. Woodward, well, don't think he made the decision, he was simply forced into making the decision after the Watford loss. Woodward had to make a change, the last person he would trust, and in fact, the last person any squad players would trust, is Mike. At least Micky is still getting paid, until end of the season.

Why would we include Sir Alex though? He is a member of the football board, which is nothing more than an advisory committee. Carrick was clear in his pre-game presser, Woodward asked him to take over. Woodward is the one making the decisions. Sir Alex has influence but that's just because he's a big personality. If Woodward had wanted Phelan gone he'd be gone. However, it didn't really feel like he was a big part of the touchline dynamic between Carrick and McKenna. Maybe he was behind the scenes pre-game. However, it looked very much like he was third wheel last night.

Best view in the ground, and has loads of space to just stand there leaning against the wall.
And paid fortunes for it too! Lucky man!
