Mikel Arteta | Lego Graham Taylor

So you think that was an argument in bad faith rather than a tongue in cheek comment? If that's how sensitive you're going to be to comments from Arsenal fans on here it's no wonder you think we're all arguing in bad faith
Considering who it came from, it wasn't a tongue in cheek comment :) (they carried on making this weird point a few times after that in fact)

Arteta is too much on the sidelines at times, but we seem to be a magnet for over the top analysis from Neville & co. about nearly everything we do and it's trickles down to become the narrative.

Every day we have to hear we are the worst fans in the world, all of us. People keep referencing something I've not even seen about claiming we're better than 08' United, so that means we're all awful. Yeah we have some dickheads like every other club but I don't judge you on your worst. Don't judge us on AFTV dickheads.

The celebration police battered us yesterday. O'Hara, Agbonlahor, Hasslebaink, several articles, all ignoring the fact every team celebrates if they reach the champions league final. PSG's firework display last year put ours to shame.

We're at the point now where it's apparently acceptable for paid television pundits to say in studio how much they want to punch a football manager in the face. It's ridiculous.

I don't come on here to troll, or post in bad faith. I'm biased to my team, of course I am. I come on here because it's usually by far the most civil place to talk about football.

Sorry I'm stressed with work and an ill family member, this just set my thumbs off  feel free to ignore.

I think this is a rare good post from an Arsenal fan in here!

Hope all goes well with the fam and they can enjoy your impending title, and I hope people stop talking about being violent towards Arteta too even though he's a twat. It's very silly, irresponsible and over the top.

I also hope you get smashed by PSG when the time comes! :D

Arteta needs to win it so we can see the behind the scenes. He must be preparing the cringiest team talk of all time and we deserve to see it. The trophy will be a bonus.

Oh that's fair, my bad then. If it was just a one off I thought it could have been tongue in cheek

My comment was more a meta-comment regarding elite football in Europe nowadays. I'm not preaching from the anti-Saudi or anti-oil ownership bandwagon, I'm just burnt out from the dynamics that shape modern day football. I can appreciate the literal day-to-day work Luis Enrique and the players do. But they are also in a very fortunate situation.

All of this and I'm not even that old of an old codger. It's a bad sign that I'm in a phase of watching old season reviews from about 88 to 92 isn't it? Ha!
Yeah, I guess I agree. For myself I put it down to me getting older, football getting worse, and also United being in such shambles over the last years. But it's mostly the structural bit about football. The insane influx of money, FIFA trying their very best to ruin everything, the ridiculous application of VAR, etc. Football is going in the wrong direction (at least for someone like me).

Yeah @findBenji seems alright. Has a decent sense of humor and not uptight like nearly every other Arsenal supporter who posts here.

Yeah, it's my Mum it was a bit of a scare out of nowhere but fingers crossed everything will be okay. Not sure the heightened stress and drama is doing her the world of good but she thorougly enjoyed Arteta's dancing the other night

Haha you may well get your wish, I'm not confident at all but just gotta hope if all goes well in the league that the momentum, confidence and actually having won something will all just let them play without fear. Being underdogs might suit as well and in a one off game anything can happen :)

Haha thanks :D I actually live just outside of Manchester so I think it helps I'm used to being surrounded by Man Utd, Liverpool and City fans. I'm very passionate about my team but I've never really hated any other team, obviously find it hilarious when any of them are in a shambles but never really understood the anger.

I think you are probably referencing me, & the discussion isn't quite as black & white as you make out.

My main issue is that people are coming from the angle that all Arsenal set pieces are the same, & they are all 'bad', when that's just not true. When you actually go through the goals scored from corners, there's a varying degrees in terms of 'holding', or 'blocking' (that seems to be the main thing that seems to piss off rivals, even though everyone does it).

I just also find it funny that people slated the corners, and then a lot of their clubs started copying them.

He’ll win the league and I’m glad. Can’t stand City.

Hopefully they don’t win the CL though.
I agree with the first half

I'm 50/50 on the second. PSG's football is incredible, but they are pretty much a French Man City

Also, best wishes to you and your mum @findBenji

Had to expect other clubs to use it, seeing the level of success. I knew this wasnt a long-term clear cut advantage that was being built. We seem to be diversifying our corners lately a bit, probably because teams are getting better at defending the crowd - bump and smash. I have never minded the corners.

It's interesting that for so many years opposing teams would crowd our GK and we were called soft in response. I dont know how many times I heard it said during the Wenger-era. What I have minded is our general attacking play during this time. I am not sure the two are necessarily linked a whole lot. We probably do get more corners than the average team because of our risk adverse play of almost solely going through the wide areas....which seems to be thankfully changing a little lately.

Football like most things is about balance. I remember quite a few drubbings and those kind of immature displays have completely stopped...which is on the flipside a good thing. Arteta still struggles with balance, but so does every other manager at some point.

Oh, i fully expected other teams to use it, it was more the section of rival fans that thought their club would be too 'pure' to use it that i found funny.

Yeah, like you say, it's more the double standards i was commenting on. And i get that, we are all football fans, double standards is the unwritten rule we all live by. :D

Exactly. Now if Jover joins their team, they might suddenly have a change of heart!

One of those finals in which I want both teams to lose.

Arsenal because of their godawful football and Piers Morgan style fans.

psg because, despite the pretty play, they're still a sports-washing device for an odious regime (it's alarming how such is forgotten when they're winning)

Both set a very dangerous precedent.

Why do some posters think that you have to eat up every nonsense narrative to be a United fan? Haha
It’s just a little weird for a ‘Utd fan’ to have the majority of their posts be in defense of a different team.

I know people joke about it but the touch line thing is a genuine issue that can impact a players focus and decision making. I have no idea why it’s allowed to go on. Simeone isn’t any better.

On more than one occasion he has deliberately positioned himself too close to the touchline when opposition wingers are trying to run down the line. Is it really hard to see why non-Arsenal fans would find that a problem?

The first ref who sends him to the stands for this should get a knighthood.

I caught the last 10 minutes or so plus stoppage time of the game last night.

Having done their usual rolling-about, taking forever over every throw, hoofing it into the stands schtick, Arteta began whirling his arms about at the fourth official demanding the final whistle be blown.

Ignoring the fact that they should’ve been down to 10 men and had time-wasted at least 4 minutes of the 7 added on, you’re at home to Burnley, chum. They’re the worst team in the division. Have you absolutely no self respect? Utterly pathetic, as per usual.

In a world of Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu, Vladimir Putin and James Corden, there’s still no one I’d rather see get punched in the face or kicked in the bollocks than that helmet haired tool.

He's a fantastic manager.

He became their manager at 37 years old. 37! Which is crazy, when you consider that Carrick is 44 and Ole was 45 when he took over as caretaker. And people here have/had hope in their potential as if they are/were really really young.

Considering this, people have been harsh on Arteta, in my opinion. Most of the Premier league's great managers actually joined the Premier league in their early to mid forties. He's at that age now, has had to learn his trade as a manager solely in the Premier League, and may win a title at 44 years old.

He could have title under his belt, with seven years of Prem experience at the rough age that Prem. greats have historically first stepped into the league.

Is there actually anyone else with that trajectory?

@Only registered on Redcafe just in time for United vs Arsenal on opening day and his first post was defending Arsenal's play style and how the win was deserved. Neutral.

edit: "Support" field updated, well done Mods if that was you

People signing up on here and pretending to not support the team they obviously support is very strange
When I joined I was "neutral" for the first few months. Had no clue how forums worked and whether I'd get bullied as an opposition supporter at the time.

Been 23 years to the day since I joined...was 15 when I joined my first and, what turned out to be, only forum.

Yeah that's fair enough - but that specific poster is actively portraying himself as a non-Arsenal fan, which is strange.

Sorry bout that

Been one of his biggest critic here. Well done Arteta and arsenal. Still don't enjoy the brand of football but they won the freaking league. Huge congratulations to all arsenal fans. Well deserved

Yeah, rugby tackling at corners, dodgy VAR decisions etc.

With a league title finally in the bag, watch us play more positive and with more freedom next season

We're in big trouble. I hope they've put a prenup in the deal in case he's shite.

I expect him to fail big time there. The job is too big for him and I don't think he'll be able to handle their players moody behavior and inconsistency. He'll be sacked by this time next season.
I can’t explain it but I reckon he will do well there. Arsenal seem to be looking for a head coach rather than a manager and Arteta fits that.

Also usually when there's a overwhelming negative response to a new manager it usually ends up working. I base this of course on nothing at all.

In case you're interested in reactions from when he was hired

The early FA Cup win bought him some credit in the bank, along with cleaning up the culture behind the scenes

Then with the 3 consecutive 2nd place finishes, including 1 title race that went to the last day

Things have been a bit shit this season but he's more than justified that initial leap of faith

iu

We want are trophy back

Fair play to him. He got the job done in the end. It’s an amazing achievement to win the league after a long long time so congrats to the Arsenal fans, squad and staff.

I still hate the guy and his touchline antics though.
