Mikel Arteta | Lego Pep watch

Industry plant if I’ve ever seen one, being used to make City title wins more palatable, get the neutrals rooting for them as the 115 charges quietly come to nothing

He’s played under Wenger and been assistant to Pep but in his heart he’s more like Moyes than any of them.

Be organized, be hard to play against, control, frustrate, use the dark arts. He’s not out to win matches by proving that his side is better in this football malarkey, and that mentality seeps into his player. Has there been a single attacker of theirs that has gotten better under his tutelage? The more they play under him, the more conservative and ineffectual they become.

He played alot longer under Moyes than Wenger. They just think he's sophisticated because he's Spanish

Phil Jagielka is his dream CB and Emile Heskey is his fave CF. Explains why he built and setup the team the way he did.

He had a poster of Big Sam in his bedroom.

Even if they win it from here they lost the right to annoint themselves as a generational team (something they love to do and I sense a central reason why they are so universally hated in spite of going against that lot).

They are chokers who play crap low risk football and embodied by this fool at the top of it.

At least they finally replaced their specialist in failure.

They'll bank on Pep leaving City and City having a down season trying to replace him.

Next season might actually be even more wide open than this season in that scenario. Slot at Liverpool, new coach at City, Carricks first full season, Rosenior at Chelsea. You'd have Arsenal as favourites in that scenario

You really think Slot and Rosenior will be in the same place next year?

This was the season for them. I agree the field is wide open next time, but I think Arsenal will have more problems. They’ve gone big in the transfer market and from what I have heard, won’t have much room for manoeuvre this summer without outgoings. I think their squad is actually a bit bloated; can easily see players like Merino, White, Lewis-Skelly, Califiori et al getting annoyed at a lack of game time. Plus, if they do f**k this up, the squad might start questioning the LEGO headed tit and his gimmicky nonsense.

Has to go if they end up trophyless again. It's one thing to bottle it, but to bottle it while doing all of these gimmicks behind the scenes makes it even worse.

Slot yes, looks like they'll get CL and they'll give him the start of next season because of it. Rosenior probably less likely, but he came in late in the season with an 8 year contract and Chelsea have got financial problems already. Paying that off and hiring someone else will play a part in their decision making.

Anyone know where I can buy a PSG shirt?

Should be banned from the touchline in the final.

Shocking refereeing not to send him off.

Technical areas don't apply to him, like pushing players into the opposition keeper aren't fouls to them either.

Look at these bunch of losers celebrating like as though they have actually won the damn thing lawl.

Thought they were good tonight. Not exactly champagne football but were very comfortable and deserved winners. MLS looks very good in midfield and Gyokeres couldn't have picked a better time to put in his back to back best performances.

Yesterday Henry while talking about Chelsea mentioned 10 times how "Look how Arteta was given time". This is the worst part of it.
People will excuse awful football for years telling how it will result it something.

Please don’t let him win the CL. His team takes 45+ seconds for every free kick and goal kick. The less we talk about his ‘passion’ and behaviour on the sidelines the better…

Don’t like him but he has rebuilt Arsenal from the post Wenger ‘nowhere’ years. It’s whether he can actually win something at last that’s the final step.

And all it took was a billion pounds and a style of football that would make Tony Pulis blush. Truly is a dream maker.

A billion pounds hasn’t exactly worked for us. I don’t think they were that bad to watch a few years back. I think they were getting 80/90 goals a season. It’s this last year or so that I find them really horrific to watch. If they win the league (and I’d rather them than City) then they’ll be one of the worst winners. But it’s still a win. Again, rather them than City.

Arteta changed to a defensive side which is obviously less appealing for the eye. But considering they just made their first CL final in 20 years and look set to win the league it has also obviously been effective. They give very little away.

I would not care how we play, if we won the league and champions league because it’s been so long. And that’s probably the same for Arsenal fans, I don’t think they will care how they win both as long as they do it.

He's one of the best in the world right now given how competitive he's gotten Arsenal but I have no idea how their fans can watch this football again next year once they do get over the mental hurdle of winning trophies this year.

They're going to get less points than the team they had that actually played good football a couple of years ago.

It's just a worse City side they're up against this time.

They're a good side but I'm not having their success is because of this horrible style, it's in spite of it.

if he wins the double and then makes a few signings and then lets the shackles off this team, I’ll respect him a lot more than I do now. Seems like the goal is win by any means necessary, but I’d expect that to free everyone up and then express themselves a bit more next year. I guess the first indication of that would be him signing actual full backs

Still they absolutely smashed the cl league table and have now made it to the final while conceding a total of 6 goals in this cl campaign so far. Meanwhile the likes of Bayern and PSG currently sits at 19 and 21 and have played one game less than Arsenal have. They obviously are not the most enjoyable team to watch but they’re easily the best defensive side in the world at the moment. And yes their success definitely is linked to that.

The fanbase is genuinely pretty infuriating, and the touchline antics of Arteta do go too far. But, he has managed to get an entire squad to buy in to his philosophy, and you never hear a single peep about any of their players being unhappy or off the field drama etc. Clearly, they believe in their coach, and that’s a powerful thing.

Our fans won't accept this football and such a slow process of taking 6 years to be where they are. Arteta is very fortunate arsenal board backed him unconditionally. Good for them and fair play to arteta. I still don't like the football they play but if they win the CL or/and PL then you cannot criticize.

You can criticize, because there are teams that have won multiple trophies playing attractive football

It’s insane how long they take on set pieces, honestly feel like I can get up and make a cuppa before they take one.

But fair play to them. He made them competing again and are now in a CL final and could win the league. People are bitter about their style as if we played incredible football under Fergie all tge time

Oh come off it, when did Fergie play for set pieces and then spend a fecking age to take each one?

Fergie was manager for 26 years of course it wasn’t sunshine and rainbows all the time.

Do you really buy the narrative that Arsenal invented time wasting?

It takes some skill to out-shithouse Simeone I'd give you that. A. Madrid was the thug of La Liga and the most successful thug, until this Arsenal team arrived.

You don’t think a manager as adaptable as Fergie would have incorporated set pieces in his tactics if they became quite a reliable way of scoring goals in the league in his time?

United themselves have scored a good percentage of their goals from set pieces this season, as have most teams in the league. Arsenal are only in the spotlight because we were one of the first teams to see their potential and implement them effectively. Even the PSG - Bayern goalfest had most of the goals coming from outside of open play.
