Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

Huge chance for United goes as Nyoni wins the ball high up, his shot is saved by the keeper then cleared off the line. He gets the ball back and squares for Wright who completely misskicks infront of goal.

3-2, Jaice Dore hat-trick! Superb work from Lyne who feeds Dore. Couple of fakes before he smashes into the far corner. About 5-10 left to play probably.

Full-time, 3-2. United are into tomorrow's final where they will play Monterrey Rayados.

Big call mate but are you able to put the numbers to the players, or even some of them you recognise? I'm going to watch the game later.

Thank you so much mate, I do appreciate all the academy stuff and can watch the game knowing who is who.

Does anyone know what the issue with Ngwashi is. He passes the eye test and has represented England but he rarely plays for us. Is it just injuries or is there something else going on?

Have asked this a couple of times and nobody seems to know. Emsden james hasnt been in the picture for now as well.

United 0-0 City at half time for the U18s. Noah Ajayi moving like Ronaldo today, Chido hit the post twice, United struggling to progress the ball into city's half.

Even first half overall against City's Under-18s.

Thwaite could come on in the 2nd half to aid our midfield control and passing through the midfield.

Mantato also could be an option out wide, either as a direct replacement for Brown or replace Ajayi with Brown switching over to the left.

Byrne-Hughes should ensure he does not make another mistake on the ball. This City team will punish such mistakes.

Gabriel opened the scoring nipping the ball off City's defense.

Lovely ball from Kukonki allowed Obi to smash home from just inside the box.

Samba pulled one back before Thwaites whistled a free kick into the top corner. Obi won it well.

Very good performance against a quality opponent. It was very helpful that we had fullbacks that could go toe to toe with the Man City wing forwards without too much help.

moving Kukonki to fullback has really improved him.

Great performance in the second half. Thwaites coming on helped relief some pressure in the middle.

Probably Ajayi's best performance of the season. Lots to work with in terms of his frame & technique, next season could be a big one for him.

Thought I'd share a hilarious comment from BlueMoon:

"Don't get ne wrong, we were poor and the ref contributed to the result and we had others who could have played, but it shows that the rags still don't get it.
They put a lot of players in, with first team experience just for a cheap win (when we are going to be miles in front) when this age group is about experience for 16+ year olds. Those rag players won't have learned anything from that, and they have sent a message to the younger lads that they can't be trusted."

United's 11: One player with first-team minutes (Chido Obi)
City's 11: Two players with first-team minutes (Braithwaite & Heskey)

United's 11: 5x U18s, 5x U17s, 1x U15
City's 11: 7x U18s, 3x U17s, 1x U16

City will end up winning the title, and deservedly so, but just admit when you've been outplayed ffs..

They didn't look like a team that's lost only once this season, lots of hustle and pace on the wings but I thought United had the better individual quality. City's focus on team play and pressing is the first thing that stands out perhaps to the detriment of individuality.

Yeah, definite off day for them. They were without their best player, for my money, in Floyd Samba. He's on the bench for the first-team today.

Really enjoyed that. Kukonki looks a beast, he's a big lad, but surprisingly nimble, good at taking players on. He's a CB I believe, but perhaps playing at FB allows him to use his skills more. Thwaites made a big difference when he came on, controlled much more second half. Chido impresses me when I see him, wins the ball a lot off defenders, presses really well, definitely knows where the goal is, and puts opponents under a lot of pressure.

One of the best games I have seen from our u18s in a long time - and one player was head and shoulders above the rest, Noah Ajayi. City simply couldn't touch him when he had the ball, he ran past 3-4-5 City-players and created a lot of chances. We were the best team in the first half but failed to put our chances away, and when Thwaites entered the pitch we looked slightly more composed and took control of the game.

The Samba goal and Thwaites insane freekick were the pick of the bunch but we looked really good, and we absolutely deserved the win

Any relation to the Samba lad that scored the goal?

Saw the last 10 minutes and got to see three goals, all three well taken.

Younger brother, which you wouldn't think looking at them side-by-side. He dwarfs his big brother.

So we have Tyler and Jack Fletcher, Kai Rooney and Jacey Carrick- City have Reigan and Jaden Heskey, Tyrone and Floyd Samba and Matt Warhurst ? Did I forget someone ? :)

9 sons of former P.L footballers at the same time in one city - that must be a new record

Silva Mexes - son of Robert Earnshaw.

15s 1-0 up, Ben Lyne with a lovely lob.

Lineup:

Hartley

Maynard
Waters
Murdock
Mantato

Nyoni
Wright

Dore
Marsden-Umebuani
Songolo

Lyne

2-0, Lyne with a brace. Beautiful guided finish after a nice ball in from Songolo.

2-0 at HT.

Aside from the performance, it's really nice to see United rotating the squad. With it being a final, the coaches could've easily just picked the 'strongest' team but have given starts to a couple of the boys who haven't played as much.

2-1, sloppy goal to give away as Hartley's clearance is charged down and goes in.

4-3. United get a penalty of their own after Dore is fouled. He misses the initial pen but it's re-taken due to encroachment & he scores.
