Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

Monterrey win 4-3. United with a massive chance at the end to level but Waters misskicks. Things then turn unsavory as one of the Monterey players celebrates in his face.

They're a good team but some of their antics and fouls were really not nice at all, especially at this age.

Overall, excellent tournament. United comfortably the best footballing side I saw.

Next up in terms of international tournaments is the U16 Wyscout International Cup in Spain, a week from now. Potentially a couple of players from this squad could be involved, although it's a lot of travelling so we'll see.

Although I pay for MUTV, like everyone else, I happen to live in the wrong area, so I'm not allowed to watch the Youth Cup game tonight. Any good rivers, DM me.

JJ from 25 yards. 2-0. Mills from a corner opened the scoring.

Could be 6 or 7. Obi has come close three or four times and Mantato has hit the post. Been a few other half chances as well

JJ Gabriel's consistent ability to put a lot of his shots to the corner on target is special. Very rare ability.

2 very good performances from the under 18s in a row and probably the best I’ve seen them play consistently all season.
The first thing I noticed, which I think has been missing at times this season, was the intensity in pressing. From the front in both games we pressed high in a cohesive manner and created chances from opposing mistakes. Especially Obi.

Thwaites is quality on the ball. Moves past players with clever play not pace. Quick mind also.

Have been impressed too with Brown and Ajayi. Both did well in running at defenders and tracking back in defence.

Kukoni and Helafu bring good variety with their runs forward and helped provide width and support inside also.

JJ and Mantato linked up well and bring that tricky play. Be good to see them with Ibragimov when he gets back and Jim sitting deep.

Also a word for the Oxford left winger Missanga. Did well and got his reward. Hopefully we can keep this form up.

Ajayi has really announced himself pretty well in the last two appearances. Think both have been his best performances.

Feel our defenders for u18 need to be better at defending. They are comfortable enough on the ball, young and learning. Read Ngwashi is back in individual training this week, so might be available for last part of season.

I think their main problem is being too slow. Usually they handle it by good positioning and reading of the play, but one on one is a problem. Armer is excellent on the ball and passes very well, but is exposed against quick players.

U16s winger Louis Kibbalya has been on trial at Blackburn recently, suggesting he hasn't been offered a scholarship.

Another member of the U16 crop leaving is full-back/midfielder Alfie Walker, who is joining Leeds at the end of the season.

Fun fact, his dad is the head of museum & stadium tours at OT.

That is leeds taking ibrovic fletcher and him .

Noah ajayi seems a great talent too. When he came on was so good.

Not sure why brown started ahead of him.

He scored for them against Liverpool on the weekend, move has been done for a while.

Leeds have been sniffing around for a few players.

My guess:

Brown is more of a winger who will track back, support his fullback, keep possession. Ajayi is more direct and much more effective against tired legs than Brown, but less defensively secure.

Seen that Shea Lacey’s older brother has been arrested on attempted murder, I used to follow his tweets about Shea once upon a time.

Any updates on Shea Lacey? Is he currently injured? I think it’s been about two weeks since he last featured for the U21s.

Went to the u21s game last night. Probably the best I've seen Chido for a while and he scored some really excellent goals. One player who really stood out to me was Rafe McCormack who came on in the second half and looked really impressive.

18s will play Sunderland in the FAYC quarter-finals. They've also been drawn against West Ham in the PL Cup semis, with that game taking place next Wednesday.

21s are set to play Real Madrid in the PL International Cup quarters.

Sauce? Is it why Lacey has been injured perhaps? (As in "injured" not that he was attempted murdered!)

I don't think you'll get a good source to say the club are saying its injury but its actually personal leave since that defeats the point of protecting the player by saying its injury.
However, its possible thats the true case.

Derby u18 who lost to us 6-1, defeated city 3-1 today.
