Glazer get to a after drink brawl with Shittu, bot
last year when we had that great run, he was on the field most of the time .. Same goes when we won Europa League.
And then for just small matter of salary, when he was looking for his last pay cheque for his career, our management choose to let him go for free.
I think our game now will be very different if he is still on the field. Too bad we can only dream of that now.. Sad!

Are you the ref?
I agree, of all the mind bendingly dumb decisions they have made, this one is pretty near the top of the list.

Letting him and Fellaini (who is 100x better than the shite we have) was a criminal offence.

I think it was 50/50 this and attack. Whoever thought we could go with a front 3 of Rashford Martial and an unproven James was nuts.

I think the feeling at board level over the summer was that Fred cost 50 million, so give him another half season to see if he can do a Lindelof and come good.

The board will realize they made a mistake. Ander Herrera is a Southampton level player. Scott McT is better than him. Getting rid was correct but not replacing him has proven to be a mistake.

The board will do everything to rectify that mistake in January. Does Thomas Partey still have that release clause? Would Villa sell us John McGinn for 50 million in January?

Was capable of winning the ball back as often as anyone. And as much of this place moaned about his passing, he moved the ball quickly and injected a sense of urgency into our play. Massively missed.

And:

Feel McTominay has replaced him well. The bigger mistake was to go into the season with two alternative midfields. Matic behind Pogba and McTominay, or Lingard in front of them.

Not buying a 6 or a 10 is the real crime here.

We would be a better squad, and first-team, with him in the team, than without him. It is very surprising he hasn't been replaced.

Ii believe our biggest mistake was not buying a ST or RW. We have nothing going on in those departments at United at the moment

It's a shame we didn't see this McTominay paired with Herrera. It always seemed to be one of the other

We have replaced Herrera with a far worse midfielder in McTominay. Can we really be surprised that our midfield is worse? Ridiculous decision not to sign at least one midfielder to improve the team.

Letting him go was good because he wanted 1 trillion dollars a week.

Not replacing him was beyond ridiculous.

Fellaini less so but he was a good plan B.
He wanted that because PSG came in and offered it. We should never have let his contract get anywhere near that stage and signed him up the previous season

McTominay is playing well in his own right, but he's a more offensive minded player. Ander was good at plugging the gaps defensively. They would have done well as a partnership with Pogba continuing to play further forward

Missing Herrera. Along with Lukaku, Zaha, Di Maria, Depay, Blind, Evans and Keane, all of whom would give you better options than you have currently.

He's definitely missed but not because he was an incredible player, purely from a numbers perspective. I rated Herrera higher than most but he was a 6/10 player most weeks who was very good at the limited job he was tasked with doing. Not getting in another player at that level which, let's face it wouldn't have been that hard or expensive, should have been a priority.

The way we handle player contracts needs looking at but I can only assume Mou wasn't planning on renewing him and so it was never addressed until last minute.

My sentiments exactly. Mctominay has added a lot of energy in midfield. Defensively we are fine, what we needed was someone to carry the creative load with Pogba

He wasn't really the level we needed.

But he's a level above what we've currently got out there!

McTominay is better than Herrera, and matching such a limited 30 year old midfielder’s 5 year 200k pw PSG offer would’ve been another absurdly stupid decision by the club.

The plan to replace him was to change systems, go 2 in central midfield and sign a quality 10.

But they didn't sign a quality 10.

Herrera is a huge loss for his character and leadership as much as his footballing ability. It's a squad completely lacking in leaders.

Hard to figure who is more overrated on here Jose failing to make top 4 two years in three despite spending over 400 million or Herrera

He wasn't exactly doing wonders for our football but better than what we have now and he gave a shit.

We can talk about standards all day but the fact is that Herrera would be a much needed player now.

Nothing he said was funny.

Herrera going to be massively overrated by some given our state.

Who saw that coming?

He is hugely missed, and was a big part of our midfield. Losing him on a free and not replacing him was another criminal offence.

I mean, voted player of the year, our best runs inexplicably came when he was in the side. Our midfield has massively suffered since his departure. Statistically, he was as good a ball winner as anyone in the league. I suppose there comes a point when no matter how much empirical evidence is supplied to you guys, we’ve just got to accept some people will not accept they are wrong.

Not replacing him at all was pathetic. PSG got Guaye from Everton too. We should have got him as a stop gap imo

You all realise that Matic was paired with Herrera with Pogba ahead of them when the unbeaten streak was alive and well right?

You can only go so far and persist with a central midfield 2 when you have an attacking line that is midtable at best, currently performing as a relegation team.

Herrera is a miss, but so is the functionality of the central midfield.

Pair Matic with McTominay, move Pogba forward. It would be better, 100%.

Can't believe we're discussing who is best between Herrera and McT.

Neither should be anywhere near a Man Utd squad.

Both simply not good enough, it's embarrassing that some are happy to accept such mediocrity now.

THIS

I have no problem with letting Herrera go as long as we replaced with an upgrade and McTominay is basically a poor man's Darren Fletcher, a squad player at best.

PSG did well with Gueye and Herrera, you can tell their midfield is more solid and has good depth now. It just makes me wonder if a guy like Gueye for that money couldn't have been brought here instead, even at the cost of Herrera. I know it was pretty much set that Everton were going to sell to PSG because that's apparently where he wanted to go, but I would have been curious to see how he'd look in this midfield alongside Pogba and Matic/McT.
