Mo Salah | PFA Player's Player of the Year

Hopefully his last month or so is the start of the drop, but knowing their luck he'll stay mint condition for 2more years, then they'll somehow still find a way to sell him for 50m.

Unless Arsenal buy a quality striker and find a new mentality, it's hard to see who'll stop them next year. City surely won't be back in contention unless Rodri absolutely incredibly ties it all together again, and someone steps up as the new KDB. Which when Foden has basically had a season off doesn't seem likely to be him.

Gotta give him some respect for not taking the bigger money from the middle east or wherever. Though he knows as well that he can probably still go there by the time he's 40 and collect.

The later in the season it got, the more I thought he may actually leave. Would have been quite nice to see the back of him to be honest!

I feel like you figured out why you in fact don't gotta give him some respect before the end of the post here.

There are links with Isak but I don't see that as realistic. Huge fee and Newcastle don't seem like they're financially required to sell. If they get CL it's definitely a non-starter.

We will sign a striker though. Delap, Etitike & Osimhen have been linked but nothing concrete.

I think we need a left winger as well but haven't heard much in terms of being linked with anyone.

LB is a certainty and I think we'll get Kerkez from Bournemouth. RB we probably need someone. I'm not convinced Bradley is good enough to start every week.

We could do with something else in midfield as well, and a CB. Quansah needs to be moved on and Gomez/Konate are both guaranteed to get injured at some point during a season.

We need a lot and I doubt we'll get everything in one window.
Thanks man!

I choose to believe this will be seen as a massive mistake in 2 years time, similiarily to how obvious it is now that Gundogan and Walker should have left us for good after the treble, but difficult to not anknowledge that you really can't avoid trying to keep him when he has delivered like this

It was a Catch 42 situation mixed with giving their prize for their loyalty and excellenmt job. In two years both contracts will be over.

The task now for Liverpool, it's to have as good as they can transfer window (and promoting any special talent they have among their youngsters) in order to not be cuaght with their pants down in two years.

There is literally zero evidence of Salah wanting to be rested. The amount of pointless matches he played in this season is bordering on absurd.
Hence my view that next season he won’t be overused and will be fine with it. First season coach is going squeeze as much as possible out of players. Nice situation for the next two seasons

400k. This is the news that I think VVD has been waiting for, and now he can try and get himself an improved 2 year deal.
Probably a decent compromise with the length, he could easily have been on that the past few years.

Which matches have been pointless that he’s played in?

Was never in doubt that he'd sign. Expect they'll buy a top striker in the summer too.

Will surely start as favourites next season.

I think Arsenal are favorites. City and ourselves need more work on our squads than they do.

Glad he's staying. His fitness levels make me think he still has a couple more years playing at a high level. Van Dijk was the more important one but Losing Salah and TAA in one window would've been a bit much.

We do need to plan ahead though and think about life after VVD and Salah. It's coming.
What additions do you think you need to freshen up a team a bit?

He's already agreed his deal, just waiting to be announced now, I assume Monday.

Unless you think we're suddenly agreeing new terms worth millions in a matter of days...

Southampton at home when Slot could have rested him for the PSG second leg.
He scored two goals in a game Liverpool were 1-0 behind at halftime. If that’s the example then it’s invalid given the idea that it’s been numerous.

In truth, Slot has used Salah brilliantly which is evident in his work.

Don’t think it’s been brilliant to by honest. He is clearly tired and wasn’t at his best for CL exit or cup final. He peaked too soon and wasn’t given the breaks he needed.

Next season will be worse if he is played every game. He will be a lightening bolt up until Christmas, will struggle at Afcon, go into Ramadan, and then we won’t see him play well for the rest of the season.

Players need to be managed at that age, and he hasn’t been. You can say he was able to give you a massive lead in the table early doors, and that might have been worth it, but he definitely hasn’t been handled “brilliantly” over all.

You don’t think Salah having a brilliant season is to do with the manager? Best season since 2017/18.

I am talking about the way he was managed. He was over played and wasn’t the same player when the big games arrived. He wasn’t brilliantly managed.

Liverpool are 10pts clear with Salah being the most important player in the team. The idea that he wasn’t peaking in a few matches in March is extraordinary harsh. He’s been coached to stay high, be closer to goal and be top of the goal and assist (by miles and miles) is a product of his ability as well as his role in the team which is down to the coaching.

To draw a negative on this stuff is fandom nonsense and broadly daft.

I just disagree. You should want your best players at their peak for big matches and making a difference. There are league matches he shouldn’t have played in, and it might have changed the outcome of the big losses.

They have done really well to win the league and get him the output he has across the first two thirds of the league season, but he will have to be handled better next year.

Which matches? You’re confectiing a reality where Liverpool win games without their top goal scorer. It’s a bit daft. Slot has seen his squad in August and navigated his best route to success, which is to get the best out of Salah. It’s worked. He’ll be POTY.

My perspective has outcomes on its side. Yours is an invention based on guesswork.

This is just silly. So you might as well not even try to rest a 33 year old across a season? The proof is his performances over the last few months!

Personally, it will be great for rivals if he just does continue to play him every game next season. The PSGs and Newcastles of next season will thank Slot kindly.

Ok. I’ll go with POTY, top scorer, top assist, all time brilliant season, league winner.

You you go with him being perfect before we can praise the manager. Seems fair.

The manager deserves a lot of praise, but not for recent performances and not for managing his star man’s minutes.

He has had a super season, but ran out of gas for the final third. I think that’s an issue. We will agree to disagree on it.

What about being knocked out of the CL after 2 very poor performances by Salah? That's an outcome.
A body of work goes beyond two games. Are we to only rate players based on incidental failures or should we be more considered? He has 32 goals this season. In the PL he has 17 assists. It’s an all timer of a season.

No, but that's not really the point that is being discussed, is it?
Just broken the G/A record in a 38-game season. My point - which may have got lost - is that he’s thriving under the manager and a couple of poor outings doesn’t counter this.

He was having an incredible season, he still will wrapp a great season (with his style, cold for the good and bad, missing some to do some incredible later)...YET he really was way below par this current season against PSG, in the Cup and in these last stage in Premier League, shyte happens...yet he still is having a remarkable and excellent season.
