Anderson at 120m just bumped Rogers price up to probably around a similar amount for an English club.

I do suspect Rogers ends up at Bayern this summer.

Will be interesting to see what they do with Eze/Odegaard unless they plan on playing him out left? Either way he'll be good for them.

He’s a good player but it’s a similar issue to Eze - at his most effective centrally.

They really not to target an out-and-out left winger like Barcola or Kvara.

I just don't see what these clubs and their professional scouts see in him. Yes, decent numbers, but it feels like a lot of it came during the hot streak where everything he touched seemed to fly into the top corner.

Similar to Bayern and Barca fighting over Gordon. Wonder if we're missing some esoteric knowledge that these professional folks have access to.

Think he's a better than Gordon. Maybe not quite as quick or as good at pressing, but think he's better at every other element and is 2 years younger and shows more signs that he's still improving.

Although I'm not sure he would have been better than Gordon at Barca, and I can sort of see why Barca have gone for him as his pace will make him more of a success in La Liga (but not worth the money they paid!). But definitely think Rogers is the more effective player in the Premier League, and annoyingly would be an upgrade for Arsenal over Martinelli and Trossard on the left.

I think he’s better than Eze (and Odegaard) and think he will work well for Arsenal. It’s a smart signing for them.

Really? I must really underrate him then, as I'd have Eze, Odegaard and Trossard ahead of him (Martinelli on form too - not sure what's happened there with the huge drop off, but I don't watch Arsenal too much)

Clearly you do. I don't think he's the right player for Arsenal to splurge on, they need a LW far more than they need another 10. But Rodgers is and has been far better than all of the names you mentioned (Odegaard is debatable)

With Villa getting linked to Bowen, i feel we're about to drop a stupid bid for Rogers...
I don't think he's all that and i'm not sure Barcola would do great in the PL either so we don't have a lot of choice.

The next phase in Arteta's mission to have every single player in their XI built like a centre half.

He'll need someone for the other flank. What's Nicolo Zaniolo up to these days?

I feel this is the most likely signing of the bunch. Ideally we would let both Trossard and martinelli go and bring in both Barcola and Rogers but I doubt that will happen. Rogers...not sure. He really is maybe a 70 mil player but we will pay more. I like the way he is willing to carry the ball forwards. God knows we need a lot more of that. I am just not thinking this moves the needle for us all that much. In the end the change has to come from Arteta. No single player is going to change us unless it's maybe a prime Messi. We need the Saka and Odegaard of 2 years ago back most of all. Can't believe we won the league with both of them having their worst seasons for us.

If you had to pick this guy or Barcola?

I find the link somewhat confusing. Post CL game, Arteta said Arsenal have to be bold in the transfer market and try to take the next step up towards where PSG are.

Rodgers to me isn't that next step up. I would have thought you needed someone on the left to take the weight of responsibility off Saka. Why not Nico Williams, Yildiz, Barcola, Diomande etc ? There are some interesting wingers who I would say are more exciting than Rodgers.

More importantly where is the proper no9 striker? Though there seems to be a lack of quality in this position all over the world.

Barcola every day because even if i don't rate him that much he's at least an exciting profile that looks forward. Rogers is another big hunk that will be asked to play in 4 different positions being okayish in all of them. We need something new to reignite the squad.

If he goes for £100m it’ll be a bumper summer for Middlesbrough; they have a 20% sell on clause, plus the money from Hackney, and they have some add-ons from the DJed Spence sale to Spurs related to him playing for England.

Arsenal should avoid at those kind of figures. Worth going for an out-and-out winger like Barcola instead - even if it’s for money in that ballpark.

Seems like every good player in the PL nowadays at a good age is 80m minimum. Rogers being English and at Villa is another premium. I dont think anyone will touch him at this price

Everton signed Dibling for £40m, James Maddison went for £40m to Spurs, Newcastle spent £55m on Elanga. Rogers is better than them all, whether he’s worth £80m plus is another matter. But if you scale up from them then that seems like what you’d have to spend to get him

Surely that's gonna rub him the wrong way? No offence to Villa but they've always seemed like a stepping stone for him. Wonder if he'll go on strike?

I’m curious, do selling clubs tell journalists their asking price in hopes that interested clubs will read it and respond with a bid? Or do the interested clubs leak it to journalists to garner reactions from the fanbase?

Also not wanting to sell a player but playing a £130M tag on them seems a bit…contradictory?

Can be a warding off attempt. The price acting as a deterrent.

Ooft they've got him contracted till 2031 too, unless someone pays way over the odds or he agitates a move he's there for the foreseeable.

Not much of a deterrent then given one club has already paid that this season alone, and given the circumstances (his age, profile, position, nationality, contract length) that would be the going rate.

I mean, Law says that we don't want to sell him ands that the £130M price tag is what we would sell him at.

Nah, since signing him in Jan '24, he's signed 2 contract extensions -- last one was in November last year. It's been reported that he would be open to the move & personal terms wouldn't be an issue but also has no issue staying for another season at VP.

Isn't that an odd statement?

For someone to use a club as a stepping stone, they'd need to be a great talent you'd expect a lot from. Like Ronaldo moving from you to Madrid. A player that was let go from a PL to the Championship can't be said to be using another PL club as a stepping stone. Just doesn't make any sense.

To be perfectly honest I think Rogers and Emery are pretty tight, so if he told him he'd like a move I'm sure the club would allow it, assuming they got the money he's valued at. No club will just let a player go cheap because they're throwing a fit. Zero chance.

That one club being cheats, not a normal club where that kind of money is a big hit.
