By the same token, we could just as well pursue midfield targets from outside the PL instead of Fernandes too. I personally think that with the rate of increase, we should do all our PL business this season and build a decent team that can compete in the top 3-5 positions in the league consistently, then look to bolster that in the next few windows with players from Ligue 1 or the Bundesliga.
Only reason I'm saying this is because we can't risk a player not being a fit for the league this year. If you ask me personally, I'd like Kone from Roma. What we can't afford to do is risk getting an Ugarte, so if the club are willing to put up money to at least guarantee a key position is filled ( where this actually matters the most), then that's a good thing.

There's contractual issues for Vini Jnr at Madrid over signing a new deal and he's into his last 24 months. He might be the sort of player who's the icing on the cake to unlock the CL for Arsenal.
I don't think you can rely on Barcola to produce a end product consistently. Diomande needs time to develop.

He’s actually got 12 months left, so if we could manage convince him and are prepared to smash our wages structure into tiny pieces, it might be possible.
There are reports of a £78m release clause. But as you say, injuries and wages are a huge stumbling block.
I saw and believed those figures when they were first reported. But thinking about it, they don’t really make sense. Why would PSG let him go for so little? They don’t need the money. Even if he doesn’t sign a deal, they can sell him next year or let him walk in a free in two years time.
I think he's one of the few in world football who would be worth it. As I said previously, he could be the player your missing to make that final step and win not only CL but more than one.
