Well they aren't playing in Europe next season!
Cunha's stats the 2 seasons before signing for us were more impressive than Rogers.
He is also better in all the underlying metrics stuff. His last season at Wolves compared to Rogers last season absolutely dwarfs him by nearly every metric.
We did sign him when he was 2 years older than Rogers so there is that but we honestly just got an absolutely sensational deal because of the release clause and him wanting Utd.
Compared to this? Legitimately daylight robbery of a deal. It's all swings and roundabouts, Chelsea got a brilliant deal on Pedro

But I’m not particularly invested in this. As I say, I’d love to pretend that Rogers is crap seeing as he was our primary target and we’re not signing him. Unfortunately, I think he’s a very good (albeit very overpriced) player.

Villa are robbing them. He’s a good player for what he does but so limited, take away that cut inside and he’s average in every other way.

The Athletic follow-up article says that Chelsea went in with Villa's asking price, no negotiations. They wanted around or more than Anderson's fee so they bid 117M
We can't be that far from real trouble for Chelsea. 1.5B in debt, tiny stadium, no Europe. Alonso will have to wear a magician's hat and a wand on the touchline.

Buying a good player that we need, look at the state of the market for attackers to get that improve your team.
Rather overpay for Rodgers than go again for a young player with potential in the hope they become good like Gittens, Mudryk etc.
Villa love a dodgy finance deal. We swapped Dobbin for Iroegbunam but then played it up as fees both ways for the books. They obviously had no intention of playing Dobbin so at least a Jackson move comes with them actually getting a first teamer but it's grim that these market shenanigans are allowed.

This may be the most shocking fee I've ever seen. Can't think of any that compares. Grealish was a bargain comparatively.
Similar rate to wirtz. Nobody claimed wirtz transfer as ffp scheme. Arsenal looked to sign rogers around 100 mn. Anderson went to city for similar numbers. 117 mn not out of the blue in my opinion.

£117m for Morgan Rogers is out of the blue because it's all been paid upfront and is an overpay.
That's because Liverpool didn't sell anyone to Bayer for an inflated fee. If a Chelsea player goes to Villa for way over the odds, then it's pretty clear what's going down. If they don't, then it's just overpaying for a player.
