As Schneiderlin fan, I think he is better off with Poch at Spurs or Arsenal with Wenger than at United with any of the managers he he has played under in his time here.
Im a fan of his as well and I think this post is spot on

Southampton was very much pass and move. He didn't have to dwell on the ball and make a tough pass. Their off the ball movement had people breaking into space for an easier pass. For some reason he looks lost with the ball here.
That's a very simplistic view of his time at Southampton in all honesty. He contributed much more than what you're suggesting.

What are you assuming? That I'm talking about his general contribution at Southampton?

I'm talking about the difference in the passing at United under van Gaal and Mourinho compared to that at Southampton when he was there under Koeman. I contend the movement off the ball at Soton made it easier to pick pass than it's been for him here. I think the Saints' style suited him better than ours and we see that in how he's performed here offensively.

That is not a critique--at all--of his general contribution at Southampton. Your retort was rash.

I used to think he was great at Southampton and exactly what we needed but i'm starting to believe it was Wanyama who made him look better than he actually is.

He was good before Wanyama.

What a waste of a career. If he doesn't make it this season, he should leave to play some football. I'm still hanging on to what seemed like an excellent footballer at Southampton, but the longer this goes on, the more doubt I have.

Not one Southampton supporter would agree with that one.

The problem with him is that you struggle to define what type of player he is.

He is not a box-to-box, he is not a holding midfielder either. He is a player to get you the ball back and join attack, but without the techincal ability to really do anything of note besides a few passes here and there.

Sure, he would be a good player for a team like Everton, but for a team that aims to dominate most opponents, he doesn't have the required skillset unfortunately.

I know, i remember reading their reactions on their forum when he was sold to us. Wanyama seems to be doing well at spurs though. I'm just disappointed Schneiderlin hasn't been a success for us. I thought he'd be a good replacement for Carrick.

Likee I said in few other occasions, his role should be Gattusso's: main asset is offset a deep player soft attributes and breaking play and everything else is average. Occasional exceptional thing he does is a bonus, not standard and to be expected. Simply put the very raw definition of destroyer than defensive midfielder.

Compare to Makelele type: Schneiderlin is much worse disciplinary, and positional and tactical sense. He often got sucked into action at the wrong time and leave gap for opponent to exploit. That's only tlaking about role's duties, not players attributes, which for example Makelele is tougher and lazer quicker in breaking up play.

Compare to Kante type (very similar but still distinguishable): Kante is like pressing specialist, similar to Edgar Davids too. Pressing specialist in that they don't do anchoring role like Makelele or deep playmaking like Carrick, Alonso, Pirlo,... they run around offer energy mostly in defensive phase starting when losing the ball, but not doing as much in attacking phase. So why is the difference? It lies with Kante being afforded a independent role, while Schnederlin should babysitting the anchoring midfielder. Kante can go press as soon as the ball is lost while Gattusso's role is anticipating on anchoring midfielder. Kante despite his role receive very few yellow as far as I see from his 2 seasons in the PL since if the niggling foul is way farther upfield, it's more forgivable. Destroyer risks more by committing foul every where.

Compare to box to box, player like Vieira or Essien, Keane,... it's so easy since he doesn't offer enough all around both defensively and and offensively.

He should be bought to comply Carrick, but instead is wrongly used as Carrick replacement. Then being expected to change his game to comply Bastian who is different than Carrick (see my other post in Bastian thread)

He made the bench but it sort of seems like he's really just there to make the numbers up at the minute. Is he now the last choice of all of our central midfielders?

Yep, when Schweinsteiger who was exiled is getting ahead of you then it is time to pack your bags.

Ashame as I think he could be a useful player.

Carrick, Pogba, Fellaini, Herrera, Bastian and Rooney are ahead of him for a midfield berth now. To be 7th choice for a side that often plays only 2 CMs when he is at the peak of his career is an embarrassment to him.

He's a goner for sure! Never rated him anyway. Never a United standard player in a million years! He should've gone to Everton to get regular game time and increase his stock again as he's slipping out of the French squad too.

if it means that we are making space for TFM, than I am alright with that. Shame I rated him highly. Still think he could do well with players around him doing well, he hasnt started a proper game yet under Mourinho but we might never know as he might not be given the chance, similarly with Memphis who should go out on loan at least.. shame Morgan but you had quite enough chances before and should be doing the best to take them..

He was good before Wanyama, but for mid table level at best. I think Schneiderlin is a good player in PL but not for top teams in my opinion.

He should leave because he's clearly not good enough for United expectation and cost us too much money. £100k per week is a lot of money for backup player, I would rather have Mensah.

If he shows he's good enough in training he'll get the chance simple as.
Yep. And when hes given his chance he has to take it. Just needs to keep training and working hard.
I still see him being used in games where we are winning 1-0, and under a bit of pressure to come on ala Mikel a year or two ago was for Chelsea..

That didn't work against Arsenal this season.

Still think he's a good player. Somewhat limited like the Coquelin's, Elneny type midfielder but effective at times. Was hoping he's be given a chance, but can't say I'm overly concerned if he gets sold soon especially now we have Herrera and Pogba.

Jose gets shit for how he treats the players, but he's 100% right, step up when you get chances or be left out. Morgan hasn't taken his chances and I fully expect him to be playing at Everton in the none to distant future. He appears to not have enough adaptability in his game to succeed at United. I expect he'll revert to his Southampton form at Everton and people will have a moan about Jose....

When you can't get in for a EFL cup game when we have 2 CM's suspended and Schweini gets on ahead of you, you know it's time to move on.

Him and Fellaini don't really offer anything I don't think. I guess one of them as squad players, to get subbed on to add more steel in midfield to see out games, but that's literally their only role.

Easy games, Herrera and Pogba is the midfield. Hard games, Carrick comes in and sits behind them. Those 3 have a perfect blend of everything between them, and in a run of easy games, they rotate around each other.

When one of Schneiderlin or Fellaini comes in, there is a huge decrease in quality. Like, massive decrease in quality. So ideally, I think Mourinho wants any other midfielders we have to be able to come in and not have a drop in quality like we currently see. Probably a Carrick replacement to be first choice. Then we'd have Carrick as his back up. Herrera as the '12th man' who comes in all the time, rotates anywhere and starts the big games while also being first back up for pogba. And then 1 more, maybe some promising younger midfielder to have a role. But that would be a good group of 5 to have I think, all 5 with clear roles and very good with them. Not like right now where Schneiderlin and Fellaini are in their prime years but are a bit shit, and then Schweinsteiger who is old, often injured and clearly no future here.

While I stated myself Schneiderlin is not Carrick type replacement, but I'll remind people that Bastian and Carrick may leave at the end of this season. Bastian may not being hauled off in January, but I still don't see him getting back to a good enough level to stay as long term squad member. Even with good cameo attacking wise like yesterday, Batian was clearly lack intensity in defensive at times.

He'll be gone in January which is a massive mistake imo.

He would start for most "big teams" in the PL like Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool. But he'll probably rejoin Koeman at Everton.

I hope we get at least 25m for him.

Why is it a massive mistake?

He's really average at best, clearly out of his depth at United.

Not been given a run of games. Simple as that. He could be a perfect partner for Pogba.
He wouldn't be the perfect partner for anyone at this level. He is not good enough, simple as that. He needs to be sold ASAP.

I think he's a good player, but the fact Bastian came on ahead of him sort of shows to me that it's over for him at United.

Think him and Depay will both leave in January. Hopefully recoup some of the fee.

He and Memphis will be better under different managers. I hope they excel as they move on. They are better than this IMO.

I expected so much more from him. When we bought him, I thought finally a good player who will improve us a lot. He never stepped up and one of the first to be sold probably

Fee wise i think January is the last decent time to get good money, i would hope for 40m for the pair, but expect closer to 30m plus add ons.

I agree it's a shame. Still think he is a great player, and much like Herrera must be given chances to flourish. He did good under van Gaal, in a very bad team we were better when he was on the pitch.

I think it's the kind of player, we'll miss when seeing him play elsewhere imagining what could've been.

I personally can't read too much into BFS coming on last night instead of Schneiderlin. For all we know, BFS could be in the shop window for January just as much as we're trying to get rid of Schneiderlin. We'll all soon find out.

For what it's worth, I think Schneiderlin could be a good player for us. He joined us with a lot of cache and I could see him fitting the box to box/battering ram type role that Fellaini has, only he's someone a lot more mobile.
