Most overrated ex Manchester United players

Scholes was better than pirlo over their careers, quite comfortably. Pirlo had a nice renaissance but scholes did it for far longer.

Ryan Giggs did it longer than Ronaldinho. He wasn't a better player.
Scholes overrated?!

Some people are just delusional.

Great argument. Just read the posts here. One guy just said that Scholes was comfortably better than Pirlo. Someone said he was twice the player Gerrard was. He is actually the prime example of someone who is overrated.

So if one or two persons think a player is better than someone you think is better than that player is overrated? Football is all about opinions and not about the truth. Calling Scholes overrated is just delusional.

Michael Carrick by an absolute landslide. There is an enormous part of our fanbase who contribute our golden years to his signing, and while he was a good signing. We'd have won plenty of stuff with a prime Rooney and Ronaldo in our attack. With prime Vidic and Rio in defence even if we had never signed him.

He has gotten more and more overrated as years have gone by. This is without saying anything about his mentality, I have always felt he was a massive pussy in big games and failed to impose himself. We routinely got bullied in middle of park as teams started to play more physical versus our midfield. Good player but a far cry from posters who carried water for him in "Michael Carrick is World Class" thread.

For me as a neutral, Carrick.

Nice tidy player, reliable, had a nice passing range. He's become vastly overrated since he retired. I wonder if Jordan Henderson will be the same when he's been out of the game for a decade as they're pretty much the same player - water carriers.

Henderson is more comparable to Fletcher stylistically (and both underrated as a result by hipsters who cant appreciate the value of a hard-working, gritty midfielder because their technique isnt pretty).

Carrick was class and broadly underrated by the press, opposition fans and even some United fans. I tend to think that people who underrate Carrick were neanderthals who couldn't appreciate a midfielder who was excellent in possession and positionally disciplined, as it was a shift from the traditional English midfielder (runs around a lot, gets stuck in, gets in the box to score). He'd more universally rated in today's game where build up play and possession are the norm. He also had a killer through ball, which elevates him from the water carrier tag imo. He wasn't top tier but he was crucial to a team that won a ton of major trophies, and his former team mates speak highly of his value to the team, as they do Fletcher and Henderson.

Basically, anyone who underrates Carrick is a neanderthal, and anyone who underrates Fletcher and Henderson are snobs.

Carrick wasn't overrated for sure. If anything, he was underrated by the most Utd fans and the press. He was the only stable midfielder in Man Utd squad for a decade and he went through so many different eras and coaches, yet he always remained in the starting XI for us.

In our last title winning season he was one of our best players alongside Van Persie. Scholes was already too old and he had a lot of bang average midfielders like Cleverely and Anderson with him. 40 year old Giggs also played in the central midfield. And Carrick was definitely world class.

After watching the modern Man Utd games and going through so much suffering, it's hard for me to call anyone from that era "overrated".

And Amorim says that United will be back.
What's the thoughts of someone else got to do with one of the best midfielders of his generation talking about another? Strange logic

1. Eric Bailly
2. Kagawa
3. Anderson

Agree on Bailly.

He had a huge fanbase when he was at the club.

Nearly every preferred first team line-up during Ole's reign, fans had him as their number one pick for CB

I didnt get the hype with him. He was average and a bit of a clown

Agree. If anything scholes was massively underrated by football fans. However by players he was rated appropriately.
