What, he might have to do some work for his £1.4M a year?
True.

Though I meant more from a timing point of view. With not watching it, I don't know if Lineker was at the ground or just the BBC Salford studios but, either way, the City game / post match round up would have only ended about 8 o'clock. I'm sure they'd have been working on the MOTD rehearsals before then so they'd have obviously needed separate presenters / pundits for each show.

Palace seem to have their own Nathan Jones. What a bumbling interview.

How much will the dippers get fined for surrounding the ref, I wonder.

There’s a MOTD tonight for anyone who wants to enjoy the win a bit more.

Absolutely hilarious analysis of the handball by Onuoha . Basically for the Declan rice one he says that he can see why the ref hasn’t given it and then without any logical explanation for the Maguire one says that he can’t understand why it’s not been given

These people...

One of the pundits just said on Kane versus Newastle 'You're not scoring on my watch' (referring to a Newcastle defender) and immediately followed it up with 'Obviously, he scores in the end' .

How are these daft fools on TV and actually being paid for it.

I think that was Beckford. I genuinely laughed out loud when he said that! Accidental Alan Partridge moment.

Surprised Shearer was so on the ball about LiVARpool and Klopp there.

Shearer is a prick.

Lineker makes a point of City being found guilty of financial doping and Big Al says, "Yeah but the players still have to go out there and do it on the pitch." Isn't the point that they have illegally assembled such a team in the first place capable of doing that? Of course they swiftly moved on immediately afterwards.

He's going to say that, if Newcastle do the same thing he won't want any of their success undermined.

Him and Jenas are idiots. Jenas started talking about how Pep has reinvented football, and used inverted fullbacks as an example, but inverted FBs were a big part of Dutch Total Football. Cruyff used them when he was manager at Barca, so it's actually just a continuation of what he was coached to do.

It's a bit easier to implement when you've a blank checkbook though...

Forgot about the Newcastle connection, good point.

Jenas also referred to Martinez as Lautaro... :houllier:

fecking Kloppo asking for more added time. Shameless guy.

Yet, when Newcastle time wasted like there's no tomorrow no one uttered a beep. Peak hypocrisy

How the hell do two ex-relegation fodder players get the spotlight on MotD. The show is a joke.

Aye it was such a stupid comment. It’s like an F1 team illegally breaking rules to build a car which blows everyone away and then saying the driver still has to go out and win the race.

PL record goal scorer but ok . He can be a tool but your statement is absurd.
Absolutely.

Shearer is an absolute bellend, and largely a shite pundit apart from the rare even broken clocks are right twice a day moments.

However, he is a Premier League legend. Won the league with fecking Blackburn, and is the record goal scorer.

So he does have footballing merit being there.

Jenas however won feck all, was shite, is one of the worst pundits in the country, and is a complete charisma vacuum.

Your statement is still idiotic. He’d have walked into the United team at his peak and would’ve won everything.
My statement is not idiotic. How often do United greats get on that programme? Shearer would be just another Harry Kane if he didn't go to Blackburn.

It's not like having a great football career guarantees sensible opinions and analysis. The panel of MotD is riddled with idiots.

Wow, Shearer has properly been put into Saudi FC's pocket. He's deflecting like mad and speaking as if they're some sort of superpower

Pep is undoubtably a world class manager, one of the best in the world if not the best currently but you’re right around the myth of Pep.

He has always coached at minimum a top five club (at that time) in the world, if not top three. That’s something that holds him back in my eyes from the greatest managers of all time, many of whom either did something remarkable with lesser clubs (even outside of the top five at least), built multiple great teams at one club, or fundamentally invented a system.

He has always had money. He didn’t walk into world class teams and have to struggle to keep them relevant, he walked into world class teams with financial power to reinvest into the teams and make them even better.

This idea that he has invented something new or totally originally isn’t true at all. He’s simply integrating and mixing ideas of Aragones, Cruyff (to a lesser extent Van Gaal), Bielsa, Robson, Bielsa.

Not to be too harsh, because as I prefaced the post he truly is one of the if not the best manager right now. But he’s had it easier than others, and he’s standing on the shoulders of giants.

Well he was 24 when he won the title with Blackburn so he was nothing like Kane, and he signed for his hometown team who had just missed out on winning the title.

You called him a relegation fodder player, which just wasn’t true.

Who were finanicially doped by their owner just like City.
They literally spent a few million on players while playing in the second division - 1990/91.

It’s true, and it’s not like they were a rag-tag bunch like Leicester they had a really strong side. But while it somewhat diminishes the achievement, that Blackburn and that Leicester team are the only “outsiders” to win the league.

In th early 90s they literally spent more money on players playing in second division than Utd did playing in the first.
- 1990/91 - 2,5m€ vs 880k€ (second division)
-1991/92 - 5.58m€ vs 4,18m€ (second division)
-1992/93 - 9,94m€ vs 3,53m€ (EPL)
-1993/94 - 11,78m€ vs 8,5m€ (EPL)
-1994/95 - 9,75m€ vs 11,82m€ (EPL Champions)

Was there any talk about their spending back then?

Yeah it wasn't a retrospective thing, people at the time were well aware of Blackburn's spending.

But also the spending gap between the top and bottom wasn't as big as it was today. Look at the likes of Middlesbrough buying Merson while in the second division, and then the Ravanelli and co when promoted.

Jacob Murphy's goal against Everton up for Goal of The Season. Isak did most of the work and it was effectively a tap in :houllier:

On a separate note. They used Life of Riley over the contenders montage :D. Flashbacks of watching MOTD in the mid 90s after having my bath
