That's just another way of saying the Lukaku sale funded the Maguire purchase. We had a 'warchest' of about 80-100m which was reported several times before the summer, and spent it on James and AWB. We haggled with Leicester until the deadline until the Lukaku deal was confirmed.
We were ready to swap Lukaku with Dybala according to Fabrizio Romano and Di Marzio. And both reported a deal was close with United and Juve in total agreement.

Instead of wasting money on him, we should be targeting Edouard or Osimhen. And if we have been getting some positive signs from Timo Werner, just get any old striker for 6 months and sign Timo in summer. Sancho will be next to impossible, I hope I am wrong, but if we haven't got a 100% positive response from his camp we should look elsewhere, Hwang Hee-chan, Samuel Chukwueze or may be kai havertz.

Yes, and i find it bizarre that were linked with Dybala, then Ben Yedder, then Mandzukic..... and ended up with no one. I find it hard to believe Ole decided to save the 75m and put his faith in Greenwood instead. So i just assumed the money wasn't there after we confirmed the Maguire purchase.

Would have been a good buy but because like always under Woodward we dither with transfers and we would have waited too long now as salzburg will have gotten fed up at this point of seeing their attack being dismantled and have already come out saying it would take a really big fee to get Hwang, we should have striked up a deal with the club before the window even opened and minamino and haaland had left the club but we dont operate like actual well run clubs that sort out pre-agreements for transfer before transfer windows even open.

The Lukaku sale didn't fund the Maguire purchase. The Lukaku sale enabled us to get most of the money we paid to acquire him from Everton.

We don't need to go on a Real Madrid type spending spree to sign Sancho. Pogba will likely leave along with a few other players which will enable to us to have more than enough funds to sign Sancho and a few midfielders.

Signing those youngsters now would save money in the longrun which every competent football club attempts to do.
Yes the money raised allowed us to spend more, if we want Sancho and a few midfielders that’s 250m plus and selling players will leave 100m surplus at least. It’s time to be realistic and ignore the clickbait.

Sancho and a couple of quality midfielders is possible with a net spend of £150m.

There isn’t going to be 150m net spend that’s the point. That’s ignoring fact Sancho would be stupid to sign for us.

What make you so sure?
Because there isn’t any appetite for it, no ambition and there isn’t a transfer budget of that size. The club is trying to sell time and patience for a reason, there isn’t going to be a quick fix and a huge spend.

There might not be a huge appetite to spend like what Madrid did in the summer but that doesn't mean funds won't be made available for Sancho.

No chance, be plenty of preparing a bid and making him number one target stories but there’s no magic 130m going to appear.

Did we not break the transfer record for a CB in the summer? Did we not spend £50m for AWB from Palace?

If United in it's current state can make funds available at world record sums for a CB. Then they can spend in excess of £100m on Sancho who has resale value and huge marketability.

We don't purchase players with resale value in mind, we aren't a selling club and what do you base his marketability on?

For starters, Klopp wouldn't spend 140m on 2 average defenders . The first thing he signed was players who would fit his attacking philosophy. He signed fecking Caulker on loan and Matip on a free.

Salah & Mane were mid table signings at the time of signing. Firminho was another midtable Bundesliga signing.

Difference is a capable coach who knows what he does.

We do sign players with a resale value and Ducker and Ogden have even touched upon that in their pieces in the last couple of years. You don't have to be a selling club to have that mindset either.

Sancho's marketability I'm basing on him being a 'supremely talented' English attacker with the iconic number #7 on his back playing for a club that is among the most glamourous in world football.

Resale value only matters if you intend to sell the player which isn't the case for United, we intend to keep them and extend them for as long as we can. The second part doesn't make a player hugely marketable, Rooney was exactly and he wasn't hugely marketable if you put it in the context of his talent and the exposure he had at United. I could see him become hugely marketable but he will need to work on his image with his agent which isn't always something that footballers do.

Resale value also matters to clubs that operate as PLC's. Huge transfers are associated with risk and if they don't work out for clubs who operate on a profit/loss margin then resale value is sensible to fall back on to minimise the damage.

Rooney wasn't the most marketable but that was mainly down to him looking like Shrek.

But in that context any player fits the bill as long as he isn't old and in that context you don't actually know what their resale value is, it depends a lot on why it didn't work out. Resale value in football is essentially about the value that you hope you will get when you put the player under the best lights.

Where the grass is greener.
You knew this club was in trouble when our fans starting talking and caring about resale value. Go back 8-9 years and you'll struggle to find anyone talking about it, it was unheard of, it didn't enter our thinking.

Yes we did and we sold a players to offset the cost.Sancho would probably cost what we paid for Maguire and AWB combined so that’s not happening.

Even in unlikely event there is money for Sancho he isn’t coming here. As we have seen with all these journalists theyknow very little and Sancho is just easy headlines that people lap up without giving any actual though to it.

If we are in for Dembele, why not just go complete gung-ho, sign these two, Moussa Dembele and Adama Troure. Desperate times need drastic measures.

Don't give a feck anymore, sign Moussa the forklifter driver for all I care. No planning, no future vision and the same results. Wonder why.

Any player under 25 would fit into the category IMO. According to The Athletic we're targeting players 24 and under so I guess the recruitment team have their criteria which likely comes from the board. I'm sure exceptions are also made though.

Mourinho for example was denied Perisic and Aldeweireld due to both players being in their late 20s. But the club reluctantly accepted his plea for Matic after he put pressure on the board via the media.

Sancho is a teenage English superstar potentially which is something that our club has always gone the extra mile for. And I see that happening again come the summer. But whether he will choose us remains to be seen.

We didn't offset the cost of signing AWB and Maguire by selling Lukaku. Unless you believe Fabrizio Romano was fabricating the swap deal agreement between United and Juventus for Dybala? But if Romano was correct (he's got a very good record) we more than committed to having a net-spend of around £150m in the summer.

We did offset the cost that’s literally what happened and we didn’t buy anyone else. If money is set aside for Sancho then he could have been bought him in the summer. We aren’t Madrid we aren’t going spend these huge sums.

So we didn't negotiate a swap for Dybala with Juventus ?

No we didn’t he’s still at Juventus, we also didn’t buy Sancho after him supposedly being a target. Ole himself even said he spent the budget on defenders.

I can't believe Jadon Sancho is still getting mentioned. It's honestly laughable. Why on earth would Sancho want to join this disjointed nonsense, when he'll have his pick of big clubs in the summer?

Him still being at Juventus doesn't mean we didn't negotiate a swap deal with Juventus which was confirmed by literally every reliable outlet in England and Italy. Your entire argument collapses therein.

Jadon Sancho wasn't gonna leave Dortmund after one full season in Bundesliga which was a line reiterated by the German club. The German clubs DoF Michael Zorc confirmed he had talks with Man Utd regarding Jadon Sancho but the player wasn't gonna be sold. So again you're wrong.

Agree with your main point but not on the specifics.

Van Gaal identified Firmino before Liverpool signed him.

As for the other two: Mane was rated at Southampton and was clearly on the up and ready for the next level. In Salah's final season with Roma they finished 2nd with a record points tally. Joel Matip was always a decent player. Van Dijk and Allisson were others who was ready to make the step up.

Liverpool make intelligent buys for sensible prices. When Pogba leaves this summer his 100m needs to be invested in Jack Grealish - a player ready for the next step and another midfielder.

Didn't van Gaal want Mane too or am I remembering it incorrectly?

What is the point.

Shows the ambition if the club.

Players like Werner are at the bottom of the list of who we should be bidding for.

Dybala’s agent said clubs didn’t agree and Dybala would not have been valued same as Sancho so that’s that sorted.

Sancho was a target last summer according to reports you believe and it didn’t happen, the speculation now and for a whiles has been that Chelsea are front runners so all that gossip your buying into is now contradicting you.

How can you say he is falling for gossip when he is referring to quotes made directly by the Dortmund DoF?
