Seen a few now mention Star Wars. You lot should give Rogue One a try. It's one of the more recent ones, not the old ones. It's not bad!

Never watch the Godfather Trilogy.
Never watched Star Wars, but I do recognize most characters and know the story. I've seen fragments of the movies basically (i.e. fighting scenes). I also own Lego Star Wars on the Nintendo Switch, never got to play it though.
I need to watch the original Blade Runner and the sequel one day.
I've seen Casino Royale, Specter and Skyfall. Haven't seen the other Daniel Craig's James Bond movies, nor have I seen the movies with Roger Moore, Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan (and another guy I don't remember).

I love the original even with the Sam Spade style voiceover but The Final Cut is by far the best version.
It was terrible. Missed the point of the books and was just a Jack Nicholson overacting class.
It is terrible even if you like Kubric. It totally misses the point of the book and changes the end. King described the film as misogynistic and cold. I'd agree with him and lots more.

I've almost totally stopped watching superhero movies and I can't see that changing. After 2010 I started being far more selective and have seen very few since 2012.

Haven't seen any Star Wars, none of the LOTR or Hobbits, I watch Marvel movies sporadically here and there, but don't remember the characters or story or background. Not sure if I should mention series but have never seen a single episode of GoT, Breaking Bad, Friends and there are two others like that I keep forgetting the names of.

I don't know why but the laughter noises in the background really annoy me. I don't need to be told when a joke is made, I don't need prompts to laugh. Make good jokes instead and I'll laugh. Don't treat me like an idiot.
Yeah I feel that. Still, even now, Friends is quite amusing. I watch reruns while sitting on the couch at night trying to cry my baby to sleep.
99% (made up guess) of Friends episodes had a live audience of a few hundred people as opposed to canned laughter I think, but it grates on me as well regardless of where it's coming from.

Never seen Citizen Kane. Don’t think I can be bothered. Never seen Gone with the Wind either. I just can’t get on board with those old Black and White films that are meant to be brilliant. Whenever I watch them they turn out to be pretty shite, and as I’m not a film student, I just don’t bother anymore. Maybe I’m missing out.
Fun fact….about 15 years ago I started working for this wealthy and nutty guy, who had had a relationship with Beatriz Welles and bought Orson Welles’ Oscar from her. He tasked me with trying to sell it through one of the big auction houses. It caused quite a furore because Oscars are not allowed to be sold. Except that rule was only written into effect the year after Orson Welles won. So technically this one was the only one in existence that was theoretically able to be sold. Still, the academy threatened to black ball every single buyer who came within touching distance of it, and it took about two years to finally put a sale together. The final sale was reported on all the big news outlets. Pretty sure it’s still on the BBC website.
I still didn’t watch Citizen Kane.

Cool story! It is, but scant on detail.
I don't get on with the old black and whites either including CK; even though I own a few I've never got through them. It's always been this way for me, and I'm sure there are some absolute belters, but the b/w in and of itself is a massive turn off.
It is, but Christine is pretty good as well I think. That said (although not a 'movie') my favourite King adaptation is The Stand miniseries - and not the shitty recent remake one.
Shawshank Redemption is the best King one IMO, The Green Mile wasn't terrible either
I ignored these since both are based on short stories/novellas which I think separates them from the other stuff because there's more freedom for the screenplays. But yes, out of everything he's written that's been put on screen Shawshank is definitely my favourite; Green Mile is good, I love it, but it's still overrated prob due to TH lead.
The story of why he hates the shining is very personal to Stephen King because the film was essentially an attack on him as the writer...
Apparently Stanley Kubrick wanted to do a horror film and so was looking at all the current horror novels out at the time and he was not feeling inspired until he read "The Shining" which totally intrigued him, because he felt it was the writer of the story who was trying to excuse his own bad behaviour through writing the book and blaming it on an "Indian cursed burial ground"
He did a lot of digging into Stephen Kings attitudes at the time and background and felt this was a much better approach than just it being a demonic possession based on Native American burial myths. So he changed the emphasis in the film to highlight that Jack Nicholson's character (a writer) had previously been physically abusive when drunk / feeling under stress of family life. So the cursed hotel merely amplified his own bad behaviour, rather than excusing it.
Stephen King was not pleased at this at all and so began badmouthing the film from the get go.
If you are interested I would recommend the "Dr Sleep" follow up - which addresses both approaches of the book and the film and makes a great job of amalgamating both ideas.

This is interesting. I've read and watched Doctor Sleep, including the extended cut and didn't pick up on the points you've raised so will definitely look into the background and give it another watch with your comments in mind, cheers!
I love my war movies, I've been meaning to watch A Thin Red Line for a while, will watch it soon since I now have a copy.

First one is very good. Definitely worth a watch.
The Thin Red Line definitely isn't a war movie in the traditional sense. It's a drama movie about the dualities of man set in the midst of the battle of Guadalcanal.
How good that sounds will probably tell you how much you'll enjoy it.
