Multiclub Ownership Thread

Is this something that UEFA plan on stamping out? They were very quick to close the amortization loophole after Chelsea started spreading the cost of fees over 8 years. How difficult would it be to put a stop to these type of dodgy transfers, and eventually clamp down on multiclub ownership?

Extensive examinations of Julio Enciso's left knee are underway. A decision is expected between today and tomorrow. The deal is currently on hold.

Makes it even worse for Strasbourg if it's them taking a risk on him on behalf of Chelsea.

Never going to happen, but it would be fun if Enciso joined Strasbourg, was great and then when Chelsea tried to make the inevitable signing he said no and fully intended to stay there because he loves the place.

Raised this before but what also concerns me about the multiclub model is the deals that happen between them and other multiclubs.

Examples -

Forest will have bought 4 players from Botafogo by the end of the window. Over the past few years they've also traded a bunch of players with Lyon. To a lesser extent, last season they had a loan to Strasbourg and now they're going to sign Bakwa from Strasbourg this summer.

Burnley have traded 3 players in from Chelsea this summer.

Maybe I'm thinking too much and it's just a coincidence but it does feel like the owners (perhaps through agents) all work together to get deals and workarounds within the multiclub space as much as their own multiclub models.

Strasbourg is the club who spent the most in Ligue 1 this summer. Before BlueCo took over, their 2nd biggest transfer ever was Chilavert in 2000 for €5M (biggest was Habid Diallo in 2020 for €8M).

How many Chelsea players went there this summer? 5? Must be tough negotiations...

3 transfers from Chelsea to Strasbourg but it includes Samuels-Smith who was just transferred back to Chelsea
They also got 3 Chelsea players on loan, including Mamadou Sarr whom Chelsea bought from Strasbourg earlier this summer.
Strasbourg recruited 19 new players this summer if I'm not mistaken.

Yea and they're not fecking over your league yet. They have reached Strasbourg's limits in terms of roster size and financial capabilities, I wouldn't be surprised if they try to buy a club in another league to have even more toys to play with.

We have the rightwing soda company. Fortunately not spending as insane as like whatever corporation Chelsea belongs to.

Have they sold the parking lot and surrounding buildings to bring in more money? Any hotels available in the close proximity that could be added to the portfolio ? Women´s team up for sale by any chance ?

You also have the 50+1 rule, I know a lot of german fans dont like it because it prevents the league from growing but it also protects it from the multiclub ownership bullshit, even though Red Bull found a way around it.

Unfortunately for them I don't think non-football assets can be integrated in your budget in Ligue 1 or they'd be doing it already

It could be a good first step against multiclub ownership and towards the end of it in France. LFI (far-left) MP Éric Coquerel has submitted a law proposal that would forbid french football clubs to be part of a multiclub ownership structures, and this proposal has been signed by MPs from all parties so it has very good chance to pass. The only thing is it wouldnt impact the already existing multiclub ownership situations that already exist as it would put most clubs in a tough situation, since 10 out of 18 Ligue 1 clubs and 7 out of 18 Ligue 2 clubs are part of multiclub ownership structures.

Meanwhile, Palace get demoted from the Europa League.

The grand sum of the Botofogo/Lyon/Palace Textor multiclub transfer shennanigans: 6th choice Palace centre back Jake O'Brien moved to Lyon instead of Bristol City.

It's a stain on the game and clubs are blatantly using it to circumvent transfer and financial rules.

We all know money talks, so there's no way anything will be done about it.

Chelsea are playing real life Football Manager with Strasbourg.

They're fielding teams of almost exclusively young, highly rated prospects (starting 11 today had an average age of 20.8) and just chucking them in the deep end of men's football. If they swim they get a call up to the big leagues (Chelsea)

Ignoring the ethics - because everyone else does - it'd be interesting to do similar with Nice. It's undeniably smart on a football basis. Financially too. It'd also be entertaining, and useful, to watch Heaven, Kone, Lacey and Obi (Mainoo even) playing 40 games a season against Monaco, Lille and PSG instead of stagnating in the reserves, on the bench or enduring loans like Collyer where he plays 14 minutes a game or Amass where his team get battered every week.

Impossible to ignore the ethics of it. Turning another club into our B team would be shite for everyone involved, particularly the clubs’ supporters. This multiclub nonsense needs to be scrapped.

I fully agree with you. It should be banned. The ethics of MCO should not be ignored. It is interesting though, that outside of the Strasbourg ultras who regularly campaign against the BlueCo ownership, the regular Strasbourg fans seem to be OK with things.

I had a conversation with a couple of their fans a few weeks ago and I took the chance discuss our shared owners. They told me the fans understand they're the 'little brother' in this arrangement which is shit but in general, because the results are good, fans are happy. They just want to see their team compete and win games.

I was the one making the 'its deeply unethical' and 'its utterly soulless and predatory' argument to them. Whilst they acknowledged my points, they argued that their existence prior to BlueCo wasn't that different. Any good player they produced was snapped up by bigger clubs quickly, so in that sense they're used to this.

I asked them about the ultras and if regular fans agreed with their campaign. They said, most people don't feel so deeply about it. The team is performing well which is good enough for them.

I was surprised tbh. I thought the ultras were expressing broadly held views among their fanbase.
