Myles Lewis-Skelly

I think thats still older FFP doing calculations in your head.

With SCR,
1. Its all about Amortisation and Salary limits of cost. In this equation Academy players are Gold to keep on books as no amortisation and has low salary
2. Sale price are also amortised over 3 yrs now. With that its going to be costlier to replace a academy player with any decent player from the market. Also academy sales don’t move the needle too much now.

I did not know that. I thought all profits on sales were recognized for that transfer window and that was the incentive to sell academy players as it was all profit and let's the clubs spend a lot for that window.

Could be an astute third midfielder signing.

MLS is a much better midfielder than he is a LB, kept Zubimendi out the team towards the end of the season.

I recently saw a decent analysis type YouTube short / Video the other day about the way Carrick plays football, short one touch passes, having players close to one another, we may not need this strong, elite ball winning defensive mid and it’s why we went for players like Santos and Tielemans.
So you mean focus on keeping the ball rather than needing someone with the physicality to keep winning it back

Reasons for Arsenal to sell, financial/profit, if we can convince MLK a better pathway to starting (I actually don't see that cuz he would have to compete with Santos/Mainoo/Tielemans for 2 spots, and at arsenal he'd be competing with Rice/Bruno G/ Odegaard/ Zubimendi for 3 spots, pretty similar competition)

Yeah that's a very valid point, also might be a yet to be signed third midfielder for him to compete with too

The thing is, when we push up we go three at the back and the plan could be for him to move between LB and CM.
Someone like him in a midfield overload would work very well.

If this is the plan from Carrick then i think we should go for him over hall and go big.
Arse will want maybe 70-80.
He's obviously good, so why not.

What? 70-80? They're signing a starting CM for 80

We're talking about a 19YO who is one of the best LB in the league and can also play CM.
If we are going to overload the midfield when attacking he's the perfect player.
I'd pay them 70 for him.

 even Arsenal dont think hes one of the best LB in the league

That's your opinion.
He's going to be a top player.
If they sell him they will regret it.

No its their opinion. Thats why they pick other options at leftback more than him. Or do you think they were trying to throw their title challenge?

Calafiori cost £33.6 million, Hincape cost £34.5 million and both are picked more often at leftback. So no he shouldnt cost double what they did.

Fair enough.
Perhaps i should say he has more potential to be one of the league's best.
There's a reason he started against PSG.

Still, i think him being able to switch between positions is something we can utilize to our advantage when speaking to him.
That way he will have more opportunity to use his skill going forward.

If you do that (LB moves into midfield position) you need someone who can do the whole leftside of attack by themselves without overlapping runs opening up space for them. Someone like Diomande and obviously we arent the ones about to sign him.

We're much better off having a normal leftback who will work with the winger to create openings. We dont have that wideplayer who can take on 2 players without help

I would like us to sign both him and Hall, however get the feeling it's only one or the other for LB role

I'm just going off how we've been playing lately.
We've been going 3 ATB when attacking.

Dorgu was doing short pass give and go's the other day.
It was his rustiness that went against him.

Both would be great, but i have a feeling that we're going to go for Skelly to cover both positions, when Shaw's out or we need to rotate. Then he can fill the midfield role if needed or if we overload the middle.

Its preseason without most of our best players being available. I'd only start to read into the final games

Would be an excellent 3rd midfield signing and I would prefer him to Tchouameni etc. i hope we are interested and push to sign him. Him and Hall would be brilliant to form a British core which we should imo

I don't get the impression we are looking to sign both

I would prefer we sign him to Lewis Hall as he will get lots of game time between his two positions and make us more tactically flexible. He’s young though - so if we sign a specialist DM then this seems to be a long term back up for Shaw.

The reason being Zubimendi was knackered from about February onwards. MLS started in midfield against PSG, his preferred position. He and his Mum (who is also his agent) made a point of how grateful he was to finally be being used in that position and how his patience was paying off.
Again, I don't see us even entertaining the idea but if we did I'd be surprised if he wanted to sign somewhere to play predominantly left back again.

Btw some grounding stats about Lewis-Skelly especially considering a lot of the posters on this forum talk about speed in midfield and would presumably not want someone average paced at leftback down the sides

https://www.espn.in/football/story/...-fastest-slowest-passer-dribbler-superlatives

Lewis-Skelly max speed of 28.65km/h is quite short of our older injury hit Luke Shaw who's max speed last season was 34.58 km/h - Shaw still wasnt that fast for a fullback but its not too bad. Lewis-Skelly is very slow for a fullback. But he isnt one

He's a midfielder that was called into action at leftback because hes left footed. Arsenal have since signed other left footed CBs and play them at Left Back instead of him

28.65km/h isnt quite as slow for a central midfielder. But it isnt exactly above average either. Tom Cairney had the lowest max speed recorded and he was 28.35 km/h and hes 25, so Lewis-Skelly isnt far off the bottom. Mainoo's max speed is reported as 29.86 km/h so its less than him. Tielemans is 31.5km/h and Andrey Santos has no published record.

This may be one of the reasons Arsenal dont look like they're leaving a first team spot open for Lewis-Skelly other than 3rd choice leftback and are instead signing a new starting midfielder in his position.

I personally dont care about speed of a central midfielder. To me a CM is going to be surrounded by players who are faster than them with more space to run into while a CM is blocked from every angle and direction and the ball can always be moved faster than a player if you try, so I'd be more concerned with a midfielder letting the ball do the work. And in that sense I think Lewis-Skelly has some ability, so I wouldnt be against him as a squad player in midfield despite his low speed. But as a fullback I'd be completely against it. I dont rate the inverted fullbacks - the ones that were talked about all fell off and I dont believe they are more effective than overlapping and underlapping fullbacks suporting their wide players. Leave it to the midfielders to come into the middle and pick passes. And yes it might help keep the ball, but it will hinder you going forward making the matches more boring. So count me out for that.

Surely he's being bought for our midfield, we should get both.
If he was surely it would more be cover for both positions. Back up to Shaw and probably back up to Santos with his long term future being more midfield.

Paying 70 mil for a slightly above average LB to play as Shaw cover is a wild notion when we could cover two positions for likely 15-20 mil less with the addition of MLS.

Gives us more time to look for Shaw replacements and gives us more leeway until Shaw is out the door.

Why stop at 70....give them 100!

I’d love us to sign him. Hopefully with Bruno G move sealed Arsenal deem him surplus to requirements and move him on.

If Arsenal want Vini and Bruno surely they need outgoings.

I'd go for him, we still need a back up striker and someone like Hall IMO.

For 50/60 million he can cover LB and CM. Options for Carrick going in to the season. Think INEOS will be thinking same cover the 2 postions, age and PL proven on his side.

Means we have spent around £145 million on 3 players

Get Zirzkee off the books and we bring in attacking option.

Think Mbeumo will be our starting CF and Sesko will be back up.

So another winger who can score goals be a good option.

I hope not, as Mbeumo is not a good CF.

Would you take Endrick on loan with option?

I could understand this move if we didn't need a LB and just wanted to add something to midfield

Fair enough.
It seems that the few times I've watched him have skewed my opinion of him.

If he is more highly rated at CM and he'd want to play there consistently, then I'm not sure if we are gonna go for him.
We may be using his name to get the barcodes to play ball on Hall.

Yeah you could be right about putting name out there
