We know our midfielders' profile:
Mainoo is a press resistant deep midfielder and also a roaming playmaker due to his ability to carry the ball and his press resistant to dictate possession and progress the ball from the deep area.
Santos (not much sample) but his profile seems to be more a no 6 who has the ability to play breaking line passes.
Tielemans is a deeplying playmaker.
However, I don't know much about MLS. What do you think of his talent as midfielder then? His passing? His tackle? Box to box? What kind profile of midfielder is he? Everytime I watch him, he looks like full back due to his pace and his ability to dribble through opposition players. I got the same vibe as Nuno Mendes in him. He has good composure on the ball, hence why he could play as midfielder.
The only concern is they sell Zubimendi and therefore he will get more opportunities as third midfielder

He has the pace so may be he can cover ground. Our midfield don't have pace right now so his pace can fill in that gap. But midfielder with pace is not really necessary since we set up in mid block not high block.

He gets minutes in midfield by trying to not overload 2 players (ie Rice & Zubimendi) and share those minutes out a bit more via rotation.
League Cup games, Champions League games, FA Cup when it comes round, a bit more rotation in the league.
Given Calafiori's injury record, he might get games at left back as well, i don't know. But i'm pretty sure he will see game time in midfield over the season. And honestly, it might come to it that the midfielders aren't happy at the minutes they get and someone will want to move next summer. I just don't think we are quite at that stage yet, and that player might not be Lewis-Skelly. It might be Merino who will be 31 and have 2 1 year plus an option left on his deal, or it could be Zubimendi who might fancy returning home if Lewis-Skelly stays ahead of him in the pecking order.
Pace, or acceleration from a standing start, is probably his worst attribute to be honest. That's what he gets caught out with when he plays left back.
He's very much like Mainoo but faster, better engine and a better passing range. Dribbling and offensive ability I'd give to Mainoo but MLS is a silky dribbler too. Having two players with these qualities in the same lineup would be amazing.
Don’t understand how we can be happy with signing rivals players that aren’t even in their top 3 choices for the position. What happened to signing teams key players and players that will actually improve us and walk straight into our team.
I question the extent to which MLS and Hall are legitimate targets in a summer where we’re not giving anything away, but if we entertain the idea - it does maybe indicate that the recruitment team/Carrick wanted a Zinchenko profile of full back who could comfortably pull into midfield to make that 3-2 shape, allowing one of the MFs (Kobbie?) to push up.
It’s a rarer, pricier profile than your touchline hugging, overlapping ‘put the ball in the box’ type, that I guess you would say Dalot and Dorgu can do. Would give us some flexibility, allow more cover in midfield (possibly also remove the need to go out and another MF - if you need a destroyer in there you just move Hall/MLS in MF and bring Shaw/Dorgu at LB). Would be a clever idea if you’re trying to plug holes on a budget.

If you're saying that about Skelly, you haven't watched him enough. Arsenal play mostly turgid football last season but he is something else, Arteta at the very end realised how much of a talent he is and played him there in the final.
He is a class young English player, can never go too wrong making that type or signing.
Offensive play you’re giving Mainoo all day.
Look at his 2 goals v Liverpool, the Lyon goal and the Wolves away goal for instance. They were top class finishes.

He’s just 19 but also a future England international regular. Of course we’d be happy to sign him. But there is also no chance they’d sell him. People here thinking he’d be cheap are absolutely deluding themselves. This is not a player Arsenal wants to sell.
I like Mainoo but 1 goal this season, 2 goals last season. I would say he's the better goalscorer but even Matic was capable of the odd banger for us, I want to see more from Mainoo and hopefully he has more to offer but he's producing far from the numbers I'd like to see to say he's better all day.
Can’t see us getting anywhere with this one tbh.

They'd be stupid to sell him considering Bruno's age. I don't think they will. Their only other option is Zubimendi, isn't it?
We'll sell Nwaneri far before we sell MLS.

I fully expect Mainoo to add more goals now he’s reclaimed his place in the team and established himself as an important player for us.

Think that's obvious given you have Saka, Madueke and Dowman ahead of him.
Nwaneri isn't a RW. He's competing with Odegaard and Eze (and maybe Havertz and Merino) and unfortunately just based on preseason he looks way behind it.
You have to remember they are at the top of their game. They don’t need to progress youth and if they are they will ensure they have guaranteed minutes. I don’t look at that midfield and see guaranteed minutes without looking 2 years into the future.
If he comes here, he’s basically fighting with Santos for minutes and both are young so will need rotation.
I think this move makes perfect sense for him and his development.
But like you said, they don’t have to sell but I feel for the right price based on what they have. They will sell. They don’t need him right now or even next year based on what they have.

Football isn’t that simple, just because he’s not first choice for them doesn’t mean he wouldn’t improve us, each coaches’ opinions are subjective, and you might be slightly underestimating how far off we are from them if you think someone that’s not first choice for them wouldn’t have a positive impact in our team. Plus there’s never been a time where we were signing our rivals’ key players, RVP being one of the exceptions.
Assume if you sell either Merino or Zubimendi, MLS is still behind Guimaraes in pecking order so it still doesn't improve his chances or the probability for more minutes than last season.
