Actually scratch that, if the point of this thread was to make me think Pogba should play right wing-back it has succeeded!

----Rashford---Cavani-------
---------------Bruno----------
Telles---VDB-Fred----Pogba
---Shaw-Maguire-Axel----
----------------De Gea----------

Looks good right? Pogba is given an easier defensive job and he can hit crosses and win headers from RB like the tall fellas Atalanta favour in that role. We'd have actual width with him and Telles whipping balls at Cavani, and Fred can help him out a bit. Could even play McTominay instead of VDB if you want him to cover Pogba even more.

There is no first XI. But this should be the strategy:

Spine of the team - should play in all important games, and be rested in cups:
De Gea, Maguire, Fred, Bruno, Rashford

1 Tier players - should be added to the spine:
Lindelof, Wan Bissaka, Telles, McTominay, Martial and Greenwood

2nd Tier players - substitute spine (should be used whenever we want to rest key players) :
Henderson, Shaw (Telles), Tuanzebe (Lindelof) , Matic (McTominay), Pogba (Bruno), Mata (Greenwood), van de Beek (?)

Question marks:
James, Williams

This is how you pick starting XI, based on opposition and calendar.

Telles a key player after 1 game?

We cannot really make an accurate assessment yet, there's so many question marks in every position.

De Gea hasn't been bad, but wouldn't be surprised if Henderson's our no. 1 by the end of the season.

The new signings have started well, but the jury is still very much out for all of them.

Tuanzebe was a breath of fresh air against PSG and I'd love to see him get a run of games next to Lindelöf / Maguire in a back 4, but he's also been injury prone, like most of our defenders.

Shaw can have excellent games in a back 5 and then make a clown of himself in a back 4.

Pogba hasn't been too effective so far whenever he started a game, especially not next to Fernandes.

Think we'll see things a lot more clearly by January or February. By then, I'm hoping all our signigs have made a huge impact and Tuanzebe will feel like a new signing. Fingers crossed.

So there are still people who think Matic, Pogba & Bruno are our best midfield combination after watching the Brighton & Spurs horror. Unless if you haven’t watch the games then I understand why you still think it’s our best midfield combo.
We have watched more games than just Brighton and Spurs mate. This is for OPINIONS, Think everyone is entitled to theirs. And by the way I respect everyones.?

I think this is my team too but with Telles over Shaw. The problem is can Matic cover the defence single handedly? I think this should be how we setup against weaker opposition.
Yes, We do need a replacement for Matic, but he is the only genuine DM we have atm. Unless we do a pivot with 2 of McTominay , Fred, VdB..
I would like to see one of Soumare or Zakaria as replacement for Matic in next window.

OPINION has a reason you know not just placing it blindly. If you have reason to the combo then I would like to hear.

Tough to say definitively because we haven't got much to go on with a few of them.

de Gea
Wan-Bissaka Tuanzebe Lindelof Telles
Fred Matic
Greenwood Bruno Rashford
Martial
Pogba, van de Beek and Cavani as the subs. Ideally Greenwood plays more up front but as ever, our options on the right are so scarce we don't have much choice. I'd like to think that Diallo kid might change that.

The one thing this sub tells me is that, for the first time since Ole took over, we have more than 1 configuration of our strongest 11.

and that's what you need really - to rest & rotate, to set up differently against different PL opponents, to set differently in different competitions

Slooooooow Matic against high pressing opponents is inviting troubles - we certainly shouldn't put him in against Pool.

We don’t see much of the ball in these games. I think if Matic is used sparingly he can be very effective especially if combined with Fred, he’s actually very strong on the ball and can pick a pass. In these games we need a good passer from midfield to feed our front players. McTominay and Fred can’t provide this. We went Matic, Fred, Bruno when we stuffed city at old Trafford and the balance was really good.

Went for something different. Rashford staying slightly more forward but suits his kick and rush player. Lots of energy in midfield and Telles to supply wicked crosses all day for Cavani to feed off. Plenty of pace either side of Maguire. 3 subs- goal threat, flair or stability when they go a couple up

You mean, take a leaf out of your book.
I don’t know why you prefer to waste time to argue about this but refused to spend time to talk about that midfield combo.

If you don’t want to talk about the midfield combo, im fine with it, you can just leave it like that without adding a disrespectful comment when literally I haven’t done anything but just put question mark on your midfield combo and asked the reason of your choice.

AWB Maguire lindelof Shaw
Bruno Fred mcsauce
Greenwood martial rashford

Dvdb pogba and cavani good options on the bench

Telles may well be the better left back but seen nothing much yet. Cavani likewise might prove our best striker option

Having written this out, even more stark that we didn't improve our 11 over summer, unless telles proves a major upgrade on Shaw.

This is very debatable. With the squad atm, pick your best 11 and the 3 subs you think could change a game for us. Have a go.

-----------------------De Gea------------

AWB-----Lindelof---Maguire--------Shaw

--------------------- Matic ----------------------

----------------Pogba--------Fernandes-------

Greenwood-----------------------------Rashford
------------------------Marial---------------

Subs: VdB, Cavani, Telles.
it’s amazing how some fans still think Matic and Pogba should start.

3 subs: Greenwood for VdB, Pogba for McT, Cavani for Martial

Terry Venables famous sexy Christmas tree formation. With the intelligence of VdB and Bruno and constant movement of Rashford, Fred and McTominay along with Telles and Williams bombing forward to supply the width, this just might work. It'll be defensively stable too with the lack of Pogba, and Fred and McT protecting the back 4 especially when Telliams bomb forward. I know I'd love to see Ole try it.
