Nations League Quarter-Finals (March 20 2025)

Yeah, Denmark mostly produces good solid professionals that are disciplined and hard-working. When it comes to decisive players with a bit of flair, it’s a whole other story. Eriksen has been the most talented since Laudrup, and he has largely done really well, but obviously not the type to win it on his own.

Still, this period since Morten Olsen retired has been quality overall. Can’t ask for much more from a 5-6m nation.
Damsgaard on his way to surpass Eriksen in terms of overall importance for his team. And the players they have now are way better technically on average than ten years ago and many are very young.

Zlatan/Haaland/Laudrup quality players are not produced - they are outliers that pop up now and again randomly, whereas the general quality of the pool of players to choose from is influenced by the footballing culture etc.

I still haven’t figure out why the nations league matters? Does the winner qualify for the euros? I would have thought they usually do so either way. Can’t be bothered with the forced relevance of these glorified friendlies
We have gone from boring friendlies to genuinely good games where teams actually care about winning. I don't know what relevance means to you, but it's quite obvious why people are keen to watch those games - we had two 3-3 scores between four European powerhouses last night, including a tie that went to a penalty shootout.

It gives you another chance to qualify for tournaments if you miss out during actual qualification.

Don’t play Foden tonight. Never turns up for England.

Does Canada employ actual doctors for its national team or just a bunch of butchers? Idiots either were unable to find out that Davies tore his acl or just didn’t care.

Despite current political developments Canada still is part of America and not involved in the UEFA Nations League

Oh, couldn’t find the right thread to whine then.

There’s always a ceiling to what a country like Denmark can achieve unless they produce a world beater who can carry the team. They brilliant at producing decent players, so the floor of the team will always be a perennial World Cup and Euros participants, which is actually really good for a country of Denmark’s size. They’ve always been a top 20-ish team, flirting with top 10 at times, in my lifetime. It’s just a bit annoying that Sweden have had Zlatan, and Norway have Haaland, but Denmark have always produced better players in quantity than both those countries but yet to produce a single player of Zlatan/Haaland quality since Michael Laudrup over 40 years ago.

Yet, what a player that is. Love that fecker, I preffer him above Zlatan and Erling, just my cup of tea.

Great semi finals, I've watch part of the games and they were really entertaining. I guess that the Competition it's starting to make more noise, on the other hand it kind of takes sthg away from the Euros if it continues growing, so I'm not that sure it's a cool thing. It's like when some people wanted to bring the WC every two years, not fond of it.
