Is it ok for me to say that Matic isn’t very good anymore and is a big worry going into the season? Or is he still world class?

Our best hope is he doesn't play much. Hopefully Fred and Big Mac step up.

Matic is finished. Waste for 40M. Only looked good first six months he came. Mctominey, Andreas Pereira and Pogba should start for us.

He's done for. Would be madness to have him as a starter next season.

Some people were surprised when Chelsea let Matic join us - even if the fee was considerably high at 40m.
Time proved them right. 2 years later, I think we ll be lucky to get 10m for him.

He was always a short term option. But it is a shame how quickly he has lost it.

We've had some real duds of late when going for older established players. Schweinsteiger, Matic, Alexis.

Praying for Mourinho to land a job somewhere so that he can come and take away matic from us. Worse than signing fellani.

I mean we very rarely agree on anything on here, but not on this guy... If Solskjaer can't see it, there something very off. Scott McTominay all the way.

Matic is a strange one to understand. When Ole came in he immediately improved. He then went into a slump with the rest of the team, however on this tour others have shown signs of shaking that off whereas he hasn't. His use of the ball has been middling at best and his lack of mobility is an issue.

He's still only 30!?!?!?
Age is just a number these days, some people are finished earlier, some last longer. Matic has a lot of mileage in his legs and he's a big frame.

Matic was extremely woeful today. Can't run, can't stop the attackers (he let Moura shoot), makes mistakes in passing, can't press. It is unthinkable to play with him as a starter - I hope our manager also understands that.

A lot of us called it at the time Mourinho was courting him, that Matic was very expensive short term solution and that he had signs of decline at Chelsea already. He had one decent year and everyone called us idiots for not trusting Mourinho and writing off a player at his alleged peak at 29-30.

Now it's obvious he doesn't have the legs any more and is not a reliable starter. £40m for 1 good year.

When we signed him Chelsea fans said he was pretty much done anyway. They were right I really hope this guy doesn’t get in the first 11 next season.

He is especially useless in high intensity games. The ease with which players get past him, or make room to shoot is ridiculous. No wonder we conceded so many goals last season. One of the worst signings and the point which showed that Jose was never looking at the long term future of the club. The fact that we lost Herrera, who would be such an asset in a high pressing system, who looked good as a DM before we bought Matic, all so Jose could get this snail.

Would have much rather kept Fellaini than Matic. He is a huge liability in most ways that a midfielder can be a liability.

People are still trying to pass it off as a myth that outfield players are more prone to decline from the age of 30. Despite having major recent examples with this guy and Sanchez

It seems like people forget Rooney's legs being gone from age 28.
Of course, of course, but he was playing full-time first team football at 100% full throttle from the age of 18! Matic, it just isn't quite the same, he really came on at 23/24 didn't he? Of course different players develop differently, and he's quite tall which can lead to a loss of dynamism.

Rooney had been playing professional football from the age of 16, in a way that took a toll on his body as well. Matic is different.

Don't worry, Ole will tell us that "Nemsy" or "Matto" or whatever matey-matey nickname he uses for Matic is a key player. He'll still start the majority of games.

He was a disaster. Really worried about how many minutes he's going to get.

Kind of agree. However in getting rid of Fellaini we eliminate the long ball tactic that was always a possibility with him.

I can only assume everyone else on this page watched a totally different game in their heads today instead of the actual match

That thing he does after trapping a pass where he has to admire the ball for a couple seconds before releasing it gives us no tactical advantage whatsoever, he isn't drawing defenders, he's just doing it for the sake of it.

Yeah. I'm not going to call him finished just yet, but the links to Longstaff make more and more sense. Even if his legs are gone, his experience could still be very important on and off the pitch.

He looked like my grandpa playing football with the kids in the backyard for Tottenham's goal today
