He was good the first year, the intensity and speed that Ole wants isn't going to work with Matic. He's just too slow unfortunately, think Italy would suit him. He's a smart player with experience but premier league is too fast. In the right system to break up play and lay deep he can offer something, not for fast counter attacking football and a high press.

I genuinely feel we will see Scott take his place in the team. Scott, Andreas and pogba look much better in Ole's system, the jury is out on Fred. We really need to bring in a quality midfielder or I feel we could get dominated in the middle. We seen it several times last season at Old Trafford. We can hope the younger boys step up but we need more experience.

Would rather we get a DM than a CB at this point. Matic doesn't specialize in anything. When Carrick was our deepest midfielder, he was our best passer. He didn't have legs, but did a good job positioning himself. Matic isn't good at that and isn't a good passer outside of his small period of good performances. At this point he's just a body and with Pogba in the side, you can't have someone like Matic.

It seems to take this club an age to realize a player is finished. Arsenal knew Sanchez was finished, Monaco knew Falcao was going to take at least a year to get back to a decent level. Bayern knew Bastian was clearly done. We’ll continue to start Matic every game for God knows what reason, it’s nothing but compete incompetence.

People criticize him and Pogba a lot for being lazy but I feel a lot if it is down to both of them being tall and not that fast, at least Pogba's acceleration is really lacking and Matic overall is a bit slow in acceleration and end speed. That's why I have been saying two players that are this slow in midfield is a liability. They might give us a bit of a height advantage on corners but it's not like we set the world alight with our corner goals last season either. I feel for this midfield to really work we need a faster and more agile defensive midfielder, someone like Kanté imo would be ideal but yeah hard to find someone like him tbh. Not sure if Fred could make this position his own, but he seems defensively too awkward at times. McTomminey might be another option but honestly he suffers a bit from the same as the other two long lads. Not really agile and acceleration speed is lacking as well.

He really does seem past it now.

Firstly, he very consistently fails to recognise when someone is coming in from behind to pinch the ball. Secondly, when he then loses the ball, he has no speed, physically or mentally, with which to win it back. This happens every game now.

He exhibited neither of these flaws, at least not nearly to this extent, in his first season with us. He was great back then, but I think he's no longer that calibre of player.
