A very good game, didnt put a foot wrong, his reading of the game and ability on the ball far out weighs MCT and Fred wish he was 10 years younger.

I don't rate him a mile higher than Fred defensively in terms of tracking players but Fred's overhype this season has certainly made some people forget that Matic makes a good number of positive and correct choices on the ball and in the buildup. He doesn't play as many easy balls as Fred and generally looks to get us attacking more often.
It is horses for courses .. Fred would have been bullied today .. Matic is the prefect player for there kind if games

He really shines in these kind of games. Dictated the tempo fantastically well.

Good game and needed a strong player in that position.

What a performance. He was threading some really nice passes in between the lines, too. This is something neither McTominay nor Fred offers us with any consistency

You say that but it was on the ball and his choices of how to move the ball forward that were an improvement over Fred for me. Yes of course he was stronger and better in the air too, but the on the ball stuff is a general improvement not just against large set piece teams.

This.

His technique was better than our combined front 3 players today.
Agreed. It was a grueling match, blood on Pogba and Shaw. Our midfield and defence really had to dig deep to get a result here. Like how many chances did Cavani and Martial blunder? Rashford wasnt any better either.

Rock solid, so calm in possession even with their brutes barrelling towards him, he's so good at dropping between the CBs and taking the ball under the press. Great performance.

Perfect for today’s game. Shame he doesn’t get as much respect as he deserves at times.

Everyone knows I’m a fan, good solid & dependable is Matic. Harshly treated no doubt due to being seen as Mourinho’s guy, but he’s been one of our best value for money purchases since SAF.
No surprise with another clean sheet, that it happens so so often is no coincidence.

Great passes in between the lines for Bruno today, as well as that one Martial should have done better with early on. Don't know if Sunday is his type of game but excellent performance today.

Matic still definitely has his uses, and should be kept even when we hopefully sign a new DM

I wish just one of them had Matic's passing ability.

His passing tonight was so sharp and crisp.

Imperious tonight, probably my MotM after Pogba. His passing tonight was crucial.

Perfect game for him and he took it on in the2nd half, his use of the ball was excellent, we desperately need to sign his replacement in the summer.

He's a good pick against sides like Burnley, and he's got an awful lot more quality on the ball than our other options in that back 3.

I hope he doesn't start on Sunday though which hammers home how high up our list of priorities a mobile holding midfielder with his quality on the ball is.

He turns 33 in August but still a very useful option and can be for another 1-2 seasons.

A very underappreciated player. His ability on the ball has gone unnoticed for years. If only he were younger.

In fairness, this looked like a game for him from the outset. He swept up well in front of the back 4 and got us moving with some very clever distribution.

Ole is learning how to manage his game time and what games he's best utilised in. Against the lower half teams where we'll dominate posession, he fits in well.

He's so much better than McTominay and Fred. He can't play every game, though. When he's tired, he can be absolutely dreadful, ponderous and sloppy.

Top notch today. He's a cracking option to have against teams that sit off us. The crispness of his passing in between the lines is so important in games like these. Wish he was 5 years younger. This squad is crying out for a player in the calibre of prime Matic.

Agree he’s good against teams that sit back, struggles against teams that press up though as his legs are slowing.

A brilliant performance. Him, Bailly, and Pogs were excellent. He's perfect for games like tonight where there's a low block. His passing is so underrated - it's in the top 3 in the entire squad. Should start many games at home where we struggle to try break down teams.

I'd only be going for Fred over him just for his mobility.

Can we get a younger (and faster) Matic, please?

This is the type of DM United should have on starting XI.

Really good tonight in a game tailor made for him.

Burnley were so negative and had no intention of actually playing football so it gave Matic time on the ball.

He was very good.

Class. Love how he reads the game and carries the ball forward. Also love how he can be a total shithouse and kick players around in the last 10 minutes of a game and get away with it with a smile.

I've been skeptical of him for getting praises in matches where he didn't perform but today he was brilliant. Long may it continue.
