While some of what he says is true and things I’ve mentioned myself eg if the club gets sold to an individual and not group then it could be to a dictator who uses it as a play thing. However I think it’s disgusting that G Neville is doing a complete U-Turn and now trying to shame protestors into silence with the terminology that he uses, eg “whinging” last year he said there was something rotten at the club that was from the top. What a hypocrite.

I think it’s pretty obvious.. they’ve employed a mate and keeping him in charge and now the class of 92 will use its influence in the media to support them.

Solksjaer is the nicest guy around. Even Roy Keane likes him. I think a lot of United players are thinking twice about criticising the club at the minute, due to who is in charge. Same as if Giggs got the job. They dont want to rock the boat.

Players seem to get more shit from ex-players than the board or manager, where as when Mourinho was in charge, everything from Rashford not playing to not getting a centre half was all on him.

Was about to trash him until I read it and what he says is the unfiltered truth. That fans think a social media campaign is going to get any businessman/woman to give up a billion pound once in a lifetime asset is naivety.

It’s more then media campaign, it’s protest at OT and online that could genuinely turn sponsors away. I remember a while back Chevrolet twitter was getting trashed by United fans. Every post they had “feck Chevrolet, but Ford” or something along those lines

Sadly that doesn't even begin to move the needle either. Angry consumers are very common and treated like a roadbump in the corporate world. CEOs and boards don't sell their companies or step down because of a few protests

When we got to 3 Euro finals in 4 years, the Glazer bashing was non-existent.

It's come back with a vengeance the past few years. Everything boils down to recruiting the wrong managers.

The club was naive to think that appointing managers that were a 'safe pair of hands', over young exciting innovative managers who don't have a high trophy count so far, was the way to go. Football philosophies evolve all the time. Ancelotti, Van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Wenger, Martin O'Neil etc were hero's of yesterday but already dinosaurs today. This has been our downfall but Ole is getting us back on track slowly it seems.

I don't think anyone would have an issues with the Glazers if the club operations and structural hierarchy was adequate. Or if they didn't insist on our iconic stadium having a roof literally collapsing on itself.

Whole point is about the hypocrisy of Neville. Last Christmas he was calling them rotten... now his trying to shame fans into silence.

What’s changed about them? Nothing.

Just because the alternative could be worse doesn't mean the glazers are good and should be supported. They're cockroaches. Fans are perfectly entitled to moan, same as he does when it suits him.

Is not that they'll give up their wealth. Not at all. They could simply venture somewhere else. There's money all around the place for people with that much money.

Exactly. They bought the club for £800m most of it wasn’t even with their own money. If they sell they get £3b... obviously how dept is paid off and capital gains taxes etc but still they’ll be making a great profit and can invest anywhere

I think his sudden shift in opinion is something a lot of fans are feeling too - that Ole is the first manager since Fergie who is doing things the right way, and as painful as the rebuild will be, he's exactly what we need right now whether he succeeds long term or not.

And the anti-Glazer, anti-Ed sentiment will die down again if Ole can land some more top signings, and guide us to a strong end of season finish, and hopefully a top 4 finish next season.

Firstly you link the crappy DM when the full article is actually in The Times - it's typical tabloid shite where they pick and choose their own narrative based on a couple of out of context quotes and unfortunately people like you lap it all up

Secondly every quote I read from Neville in that article is completely correct, I don't see him defending the Glazers nor criticising the fans at all - he's just stating the facts of the situation, there is no change of stance apart from in your mind

Ignore the tabloid slant, try reading the whole article and think for yourself rather than accepting the tabloid propoganda

Artical from the Guardian in March 2010 after United had hammered Milan 4 nil and United still in the hunt for 4 PL in a row.

They managed to quell talk of what may have been a divisive and cack-handed protest – staying away from Old Trafford for the first 10 minutes of the match – and instead, with the game won, unleashed wave after wave of highly vocal anti-Glazer chants and a series of banners that will have been received loud and clear by the global TV audience.

Didn’t it start during the period we got to 3 finals in 4 years?

Or at least, it was at its most vocal around 2010 iirc.

Genuine question. Who are the alternatives that could be better?

A mate as Man United manager means more contacts at the club which in turn it increases their appeal with media houses like Sky. It also opens the door for a potential job with the club ie home

Fans need to acknowledge that while legends genuinely love the club they love themselves and their families more.

It's fascinating how someone whose managerial career went up in flames and who keeps saying silly things can be so patronising towards the same fans who fed him for so many yearsi. That comment about United winning the league before Liverpool does will be remembered as his version of Hansen's comment

The Glazers don't give a feck about human rights. Else they wouldn't be in Saudi sealing deals with the regime. So in some ways we're already being used as a promotion tool to the Saudis. The only difference is that the money is pocketed by the Glazers instead of spent on the team.

I also find it quite patronising that someone who was born, had lived, and had represented England would come out with such BS. Lets not forget that its not Saudi that colonised half the world and it wasn't Saudi who were protagonists into a war that killed nearly half a million people based on a lie. Not to forget that Saudi's regime remain in power because it buys weapons from other countries including the UK.

So seriously instead of criticising some regime at the other end of the world then he should expect the government in his own country to clean its act first. Starting by putting Blair in jail, denounce people who were responsible for policies that lead to the deaths of thousands if not millions of people (ex the Bengal famine of 1943 that killed 3 million people) for what they were instead of national treasures, start tackling the financial services which is tinged with corruption and of course stop arming regimes.

Oh well....rant over.

The other difference is we're not directly tied to them and at any point the Glazers can walk away from them. Thats not possible if the Prince owns the club.

Neville is the typical knee jerk reaction fan win 5 games everything is great again, lose 5 the club is rotten again and blame everyone while he’s doing it.

You seriously think that the Glazers will walk away from money because of some moral issues? I very much doubt it

I agree and it links in with "we've gone the proven route already". Yes we went for past greats but not present great. Neither Van Gaal nor Jose have had a big job offer since (Van Gaal was on his way to Spurs)

Neville said the club is rotten last year, not the owners specifically. Think he was on about the club as a whole, from the dressing room right up to the board room. He hasn't said anything in this article to suggest he doesn't still believe that.

He has said this season there's been a shift in the direction of United, and with the signings we've made it does feel like that, and getting rid of Lukaku and Sanchez, freezing out Matic and giving the youngsters a chance has given us moments of fresh air in a poor season so far.

The Glazers have invested heavily in the squad post Fergie, they don't select the players or the managers. That failure lies with Woodward. Think all Gary is saying here is sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don't, and basically more protests and unrest from us isn't going to help us get out of this slump we've been in for the last 5/6 years.

That was in response to Ronaldo being sold, and the money not being used. It was clear from that moment the club was being held back by the debt. That was basically what sparked it all.

Before that point it was barely mentioned as it didn't effect the club on the pitch.

We should have got Sneijder and Robben as part of the deal, but instead we demanded for £80m in cash to pay off the debt.

The 'someone whose managerial career went up in flames' first interest is in property development, already significant his St Michael's development will be enormous. Add to that a successful position at Sky where he's well-regarded by most fans. It's just possible he says what he thinks

Depends how bad it gets, at some point it could be financially beneficial to walk away
I think that the club lost his soul the moment it was owned by an owner whose not a Man United fan. We had 1 opportunity to buy the club back when Edwards was selling his shares but unfortunately the supporters of the time failed to do so. Considering that the Glazers would whore and sell the club to anyone with money then all we can do is hope is (in order of precedence)

- The Glazers sell their shares to the public (which is highly unlikely)
- They sell the club to a United fan (Ratcliffe)
- They sell to owners that understand football (like the Liverpool owners)
- They sell to owners who will invest in the team rather then simply take money out of it.

Having mingled into the political circles myself I learnt to stir away from any false morality about us (Westerners) being better then Them (Saudi etc). Most politicians aren't that different to business men. They would sell their souls for money (investment to the country or otherwise)

I repeat regimes do not stay in power without help and we all know who back Saudi Arabia. Actually I believe that these governments are worse then the Saudi royalty. The latter commit crimes to stay in power and alive (think of how Gheddafi and Saddam ended). The former consent to such crime because its profitable.

I think the most pragmatic argument one can make is that its never a good idea being owned by a regime since regime do fall. Think of Gheddafi, Saddam, Pol Pot etc.

Stopped caring about what He says ages ago. A broken record who thinks highly of himself. But the fact is Manchester United is not up to him. He can say the Glazers are rotten but if They won't leave, They won't leave. Just like how He's now backtracking to avoid Saudi take over, He can say that but if Glazers want to sell to them, They will sell.

His opinion is that of a fan, not an important figure of the club. I just find it funny when some people here still think He's the voice of reason. Voice of treason more like.

He's hoping for a job at United.
