Who should manage us next?

So Enrique already out it seems. Ancelotti probably soon to, I don’t see any reason why he’d want to join the PL circus at this stage of his career, just no reason. He probably wants to win the WC, seems he will extend.

If Carrick gets us champions league after this season is said and done I think it would be insulting to bin him off. He deserves a shot if he can salvage that out of this season.

I think it will be Tuchel unless Carrick does so well that they have no choice but to give it to him.

Carrick gets my vote for now. 10 goals, 4 wins in 4 games, inc. beating the current top 2. Did well as caretaker last time around as well. And it's been entertaining to watch, seriously not a lot not to like since he took over.

It will be madness not to give it to Carrick if he can maintain this form and qualify us for CL. He spent zero on transfers too.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

At this rate, with how well Carrick is doing, it’s Enrique or bust for me (bust being, give it to Carrick).

Not overly sold on Alonso - and I don’t think he’s keen on us anyway. Nagelsmann would have been my second choice but not with how well Carrick is doing now. Let’s hope he secures UCL qualification for us.

Yeah, Poll should have 'Carrick, if he gets us CL football' as an option and then start taking off the coaches who seem uninterested, like Enrique, or are just never going to happen, like Ole or Conte.

If we give it Carrick then does that mean the current staff will stay on with him? Steve Holland as a track record of winning with previous managers.

If only we could find a manager who plays a nice style in open games like Carrick but has the nous to break down a low block as well. Unfortunately I am having trouble coming up with names who fit the bill.

Perhaps if he changed his name it would be a no brainer ?

Micha El Car Ricko

Start wearing a medallion, shrug his shoulders and wave his arms around in the air. Oh and wear fake tan like the Trumpster.

Micha would be nailed on

This is more about players to be honest - in those games what you need is much more attacking FBs when the centre is clogged up. We don’t really have that at all, so there’s no real width. Sesko should also have played more as their CBs are not going to push up on the ball.

De Zerbi has been binned by Marseille so hopefully that puts an end to speculation about him. Don't want that loathsome little troll near the club

Maybe this is harsh, but I dont really care about whats insulting. At the end of the day, theres really only one question we should be asking to decide on our next manager: do we believe he can win us the league? After almost 15 years, that really is the only question we should be interested in. And for me, whether Carrick gets top 4 doesnt necessarily answer that question. There are otger important ones. For instance, can he remedy the struggles we saw against a deep defence like West Ham? Can he show tactical flexibility and make changes based on the needs of the match? Can he turn a purple patch into a consisten run of form? Can he improve players beyond the new manager bounce period? How does his team respond to defeat?

Basically, for me the manner of the next the next 12 games are just important as the result. I'm not against giving Carrick the job at all, but if serial winners like Tuchel or Ancelotti become available, then the bar for Carrick should be damn high. Especially during a period where there might be an actual window to win a title in the next couple of years, with City abd Liverpool likely facing transition periods and Arsenal (in my opinion) not all that.

Added Thomas Frank.

Nice!

I agree, I don’t think Tuchel’s teams play the most attractive football which is why he wasn’t my first choice initially. I think he may just be our best option though and I do think he could win the league here especially if Pep were to leave.

I like Iraola a lot. His style seems very compatible with the ’United-way’.

I think he stands out as a stable choice compared to several of the forerunners.

Unclear wether he has that top level to lead a team that wants to compete for everything though, If Carrick continues to do well I don’t think you can deny him the job only to bring in an Iraola.

Does it matter who we appoint? Tuchel, Carrick and etc. If our transfer window is successful then the team will be successful. Getting a big name but not being able to back him is a waste of everybody time. If players like Dalot, Ugarte, Zirkzee and Malacia is still on the bench we won't win anything.

I said at the time we beat City in the FA Cup final a couple of years ago that Tuchel was the best option to go with and no one can convince me that Tuchel as head coach along with Ashworth running the footballing department wasn’t the best option for us, we literally wasted a year and a half instead of being a year and a half being further along in the rebuild.

I said the same at that time, but they didn't have the guts to sack ETH and it all went to shit.

Tuchel is probably not the manager to win the league, but I wanted him then to stabilize the club. He's tactically flexible, clever, pragmatic. More of a cup than league manager from what I've seen(doesn't matter that much). We would probably compete well in cup competitions while becoming standard top 5.

Not a long-term solution, beyond 2-3 years, though.

Squad matters more but do you not think who the manager is makes a significant difference? We're already looking better since Carrick arrived for example. Even if it's only 10-20% difference between a mediocre manager and a great one, that's still huge and usually more than any one player.

It’s going to be Carrick if he gets us one of those CL places. United will be happy with that and isn’t going to destabilise the club after what he’s done

So no Enrique (stays at PSG), no Tuchel (stays with England), probably no Ancelotti (said Madrid was his last club job as he is getting older), probably no Zidane (going to France probably), Frank is shit, De Zerbi is a lunatic, Xabi Alonso will probably wait for the Liverpool job, Glasner or Iraola will probably turn out as Potter and Frank.

So who is left:
- Nagelsman, but he didn’t do great at
Bayern
- Emery, is he good enough to step up
- Maresca, is he good enough
- Conte, only short term because he will fall out with everyone
- Xavi, unexperienced in PL
- Hoeness, unexperienced in PL
- Marco Silva, doing a really good job at Fulham, but is that the same as Potter and Frank

It is not a great choice between managers. If Carrick can get CL maybe give it to him instead of rocking the boat again not knowing if it will be better.

After Ratcliffe's stunt yesterday I'm not sure many will be queuing up to work for him. If Carrick does secure top four or five, then a year extension might make sense. The options are really limited and I want the club to go for experience rather than another experiment like Amorim.
