Who should manage us next?

Reapproaching Tuchel can happen, it would just need to be wrapped up before the tournament's start like we did with LVG.

Same goes for if we approach any WC coach

It's just not going to happen, too much distraction for a guy whose only focus is going to be on the World Cup, and fair enough.

Dont imagine it being that much of a distraction, he had very deep talks with the owners not too long ago. They aren't starting from zero.

Can we add God to the poll because we're going to need that level of intervention to get anything in the near term, nevermind the long term.

United has one thing going for us for a new manager. If you do badly and don't mind the reputational damage, you can be an instant multimillionaire as a consolation prize.

Would love Enrique but doubt our pockets are deep enough at this time. He’s probably after Pep’s job anyway. Think we will struggle to attract an ‘elite’ manager this year, unless they are just after a big payday - which would be a huge red flag. We need somebody who is able to work with a very limited squad and maybe help identify some cheap emerging talent, since we canned our expensive DoF (Ashworth) to get in the position we are. I do think we are more likely to end up with somebody like McKenna rather than a Conte,

Luis enrique is far and away the front runner. This reminds me of the poll last time around where Amorin was by far and away the front runner

Going against the grain here, Di Zerbi is my choice.

I want him to be the front runner because he's best manager outside Guardiola, however right now we need a Conte who is willing to kick some arses. I agree with people who are saying about Tuchel being distracted by World Cup. So maybe Ancelotti might fancy one of the biggest club challenges of his career and sorting this defence out first.

Michael Carrick has been finalised as the interim manager for the rest of the season. It's to be announced in the morning.

McKenna in a few years when we might be in a better state but certainly not the right person at the moment

Any chance of him bringing decent defence coach if that does prove to be true this week

This poll should be changed to…who actually would want to manage us? We’re a shitshow top to bottom.

We need a permanent manager.
I can't see how these players suddenly start playing well under a "vibes" coach like Ole.

There's not patterns of play.
They need some serious coaching and a manager with a tactical identity.

He feels like a De Zerbi hipster type, we need an absolutely hard as nails proven winner right now like Conte and Tuchel
They don‘t exist. The closest is someone like Mourinho with dour anti-football.

OK so which permanent manager is gettable now, people will put forward Xavi who has identity but worry he hasn't got the ability to sort out defence

Were are not in the place for a top tier, Champions League winning manager. That comes when we can cement CL football on a regular basis.

We need the man before the man.

We need someone who can help us beat Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton before we start concerning ourselves with someone like Luis Enrique, who we will need at the time we come to play Bayern, Barcelona and Benfica.

Get a PL proven manager, who has improved the players he has. Iraola for me. And get him now before this year slides.

I don't see him as someone capable of getting these players scared of the consequences of not putting in the required effort. I like him but we need someone who will command respect of this shambolic dressing room

Im not sure it's the dressing room being shambolic. They seem a pretty good group, to be fair.

They just look really badly coached. We get into the final third and have no idea what to do.

I just don't see enough standards out on the pitch and I feel a strong willed manager is badly needed to remind them of the passion required to run through walls from the first minute to the last. They seem to lack desire and quite frankly that's not acceptable ever

Wasn’t Amorim meant to be a man who players would run through walls for? I remember reading an Athletic profile on him before his Sporting played Arsenal in the Europa League a few years ago. It said his players did just that.

For me, we need both. A motivational coach and a tactician.

So you think Iraola has the balls to manage here?

Arsenal needed 2 own goals to beat wolves and needed penalty to score against Everton. City couldn’t break Sunderland’s defense. It’s just never easy to break the low block, the likes of arsenal and city also suffered.
They've proven they can do it consistently throughout multiple seasons now, though. Hiccups happen. We haven't done it consistently since 2013. That comes down to a mix of hiring poor managers and not having players technically good enough to do so.

Thanks for that, good post. Demonstrates differences between a Ten Hag/Amorim and De Zerbi.

I'm still all aboard the Carlo-in train, and would obviously love Enrique also (failing either of them, if we could magically get Emery but Emery just got Villa into the CL, more or less, and he's going to stick that out another season minimally imo with that board backing him to see if he can take them to the next level...).
If we had a very good squad, I'd be fine with Ancelotti, too. Personally, I just don't rate our squad, and I think someone like Ancelotti would struggle to do his thing here with a squad so bereft of technical quality.

That's why - aside from Enrique - I'm on the De Zerbi train. He's worked with squads worse than ours and got them playing great stuff. If he comes and gets us doing that - alongside the board bringing in more technically sound players - it gives future managers a much better platform to succeed off of for when he eventually would run his course here.

As shit as we've been, if you gave Ancelotti this squad with a new right back and a couple of midfielders, I think we'd be ok. Maybe not title winning but certainly finishing 3rd - 5th and maybe winning a cup.

I think Lammens, Yoro, De Ligt, Heaven, Martinez, Bruno (at least for the next 18 months), Amad, Mbeumo, Cunha, Mount and Sesko is the start of a decent squad.

Don't forget we've got Mazraoui if you mean replacing Dalot. Unless you're not big on him either? He's one of the few players we have that I actually like.

A couple of new midfielders is the big thing. That could be a game changer no doubt. When you look at our transfer history, though, I'm pessimistic about us getting it right. We could get that wrong like we do with the majority of our transfers, and, if we do, Ancelotti has no chance despite being one of the greatest managers of all time, so I wouldn't put all our eggs in that basket. For me, we need a manager that will evaluate our general play as a whole rather than a manager who can come in to a very talented squad and turn them into winners because we don't have that squad, imo.

Fair point re Mazraoui.

I'd actually say our transfer policy has been ok in the last 12 months. We clearly needed a midfielder in the summer but I'd argue we were right to not spend close to a hundred million on one player especially with some of the names being linked. That has to be the priority between now and August though.

One thing I'd add on Ancelotti is the experience of managing the biggest clubs. The hardest bit of managing us is the media and the pressure that comes with that. He's certainly less likely to crack like others have done.

Give me sir Gareth!

Rub the salt in our wounds.

Give us the cinematic villain arch redemption.....bringing us back to glory with a proper all english Anderson - Wharton four four two lineup with a vintage Harry Kane lifting the trophy after bagging 30+ goals in 2028.
