The more I think about it, the more I would try take Potter on a 2 year deal.
Young managers with a keenness for good football pop up now and again, Eddie Howe being a prime example. With Potter though, there's maybe that little bit extra, ie the look in his eye conveys steeliness.
Sell Pogba for whatever somebody will pay, spend whatever it takes to get Declan Rice, and Mr Potter will lead United into a new golden age of glory.

I used to think even with Ole, this squad could sleep walk into a top4 spot. Now, though, with Arsenal looking like they got their shit together, Spurs having a league specialist and West Ham might or might not keeping up this form, can we really stay afloat and wait till summer for manager change?

Might need a bounce right now so we can stay in the mix and rely on the talent to ride out the season rather than make a change around New Year or something when there's already a big gap to the top4. Well, that or we drop to europa and have another go. SF, final, surely this time we'll get it right.

This may be a silly idea but I would go for a dual manager. e.g.
Guus Huddink or Dick Advocaat (for the rest of the season)
together with Potter or Slot (Feyenoord), both appointed now.
The more experienced will take charge while the younger talented dynamic manager will learn how to handle the pressure of managing United, maybe even keeping the experienced one as DPF for 1 additional year to offer guidance and advice

Silly idea indeed. You would basically say that you don't think your new manager is up for the job and needs a babysitter. This would guarantee that no one respects that young guy.

How about Moyes?
He’s actually a very good manager, very good indeed.
He’s proven that he can take a group of not so great players and make them work well as a team.
Just imagine what he could do with the best paid squad in the PL?
I know that he’s not everybody’s cup of tea, so many supporters look down their noses at him but I recon he’d win honours for sure.

Moyes is not a winner. We have seen that at United before, and nothing about him suggests that he has the mentality to manage a top club. Well, neither has Ole, so I guess Moyes would still be better...

Maybe you are right but on the other hand you don't know if a talented manger like Potter can handle the pressure of United from day 1

I think BHA are entertaining to watch and you know, actually have a system and a plan. However this board would never be that forward thinking. He probably doesn’t have enough Twitter followers for Utd.

Nobody will pay anything for Pogba not when he's free in the summer.

That definitely is a concern. However I think it is less about pressure but more a mentality question that seems to be often overlooked I think. There are a lot of coaches that just don't have the mindset to win EVERY game and would settle for a draw that costs you a title when you are in the race for it, but would be a great result when you are managing a midtable club.

Moyes failed because of exactly that problem I think. I actually believe the board learned from that and went for managers that have proven themselves on that level (LvG, Mou), however Ole is also massively lacking that winners mentality.

If you have got that mindset you actually don't have much pressure in the job. You are simply expecting yourself to set up the team to beat everyone and go on with it (if you have the quality). If you are confident in that and can convince your team it isn't that hard, but it is a very rare combination of mentality and managing skills that you need for the absolute top. Many ex-players only have the mentality, and many skilled managers lack this ultimate edge.

I wrote this in that thread that was just deleted but I think he would do better this time around because he wouldn't be coming into a dressing room full of champions but rather a group that are getting embarrassed every week and haven't won a trophy in 4 years so you would expect them to be a little more humble, I imagine originally he wasn't respected or viewed as on the same level as the players. He is also bang on form right now rather than just being floating around the middle of the table so he would again garner more immediate respect and probably have more confidence in his own abilities now. Who knows how it would go, it would probably still not be the right fit but he is unquestionable a better manager than Solskjaer.

Would be a very exciting appointment as far I'm concerned. I would be overjoyed just by the anticipation of seeing how he would go about shaping the squad in his image. He's heavily influenced by both Bielsa and Guardiola and is a excellent tactician from the evidence at hand, he also has the ability to coach his team to change shape/formation whilst the game is in progress.

But we he won't get the job.

Can we drum up interest for Gallardo so the board notice? His contract apparently expires this December and he's an option. For me he is better than Ten Hag.

Well quite, although he must be worth something in January. Just after OGS took the job I advised him to sell Pogba, who was then worth probably £60m+. He could have done something he's never seemingly done: put down a marker of authority by selling PP.
*When I say I advised Ole, well, I said it out loud while watching MOTD one Sunday morning.

To me it all goes down to how one responds to getting knocked down. Because even the most legendary sides do get spanked at some point, and they manage to put that behind them and spur on. We ourselves did witness two of Fergie's best sides getting absolutely mauled at home by Liverpool (2009) and City (2011) but those teams used the disappointment as ammunition to hit back harder! This group of players (Bar from two or three)has shown time and again that they don't have the self-respect nor the pride to use their sorrows as drive to get back up! Now does some of the blame fall on Ole?! Absolutely! After a battering at Everton in his first year in charge, Ole claimed he will build a successful side at United and some of the players who played that day will not be part of that side. Yet after 2.5 years he still keeps starting players who make basic, silly mistakes week in week out! Mistakes which has cost the team points, Cup Finals and trophies! Now the question is can another manager stop this vicious circle and challenge the rotten culture inside the team? I pretty much doubt that! There are far too many imposters in the team whom Ole has been far too nice to get rid of in the last couple of years! Even if Ole gets the sack, his successor will not be able to make a quick fix which means we should consider this season as good as a write off, and then again, there's no guarantee the new manager will be able to keep the club or the fans faithful for as long as he needs. So in my opinion, we can not rush any kind of decision, and should only consider replacing Ole if the right man is available, and what I mean by the 'right man' is someone who's able to restore the club's prestige and the supporters' spirits with a fine run in league \ Europe and possibly a trophy at the end of the season! Otherwise we might as well be as mad as we are right now 12 months later!

I very much doubt Potter could handle the pressure, it’s too much for most people. I doubt he would be worse than Ole and if he’s the only choice I’ll take him but I’m not keen at all.

We need Hasenhuttl from Southampton. He's proven he can coach one of the best high presses in Europe and play out from the back mostly with success despite a mediocre set of players for the most part, two crucial things none of our managers in the last decade or so have been able to manage.

This Gallardo fella is apparently out of contract in December. Is he not available to us in that case?

Ragnick is interested. That's 2 options that we know are available and have some good pedigree about them. Even reports saying Ragnick has a relationship with some at United already.

Honestly what are we thinking if we stick with Ole. There's legit options to bring in now and buy us time to reassess, whilst likely improving us tactically and, at the very least, giving new life and hope to the fanbase and players.

I think its time to go 7 or so years into the past and delete our Brendan Rodgers slander from social media folks..

I bit more insight into him as a manager. Does he not sound like an interesting proposition?

Out of contract in December. Don't let the club fool you into thinking there's no better options available.

'A mix of Guardiola and Klopp'
'Acts as a father figure to youth and attends all youth games'

I hope somebody at United has looked into him. I admittedly know nothing until reading about him. But I saw him linked with Barca previously and looking at his achievements and philosophy, he sounds everything we want. Apart from being British, apparently.

One con I’ve read about Gallardo is him prioritising cup competitions over the league, although that’s been a decision made by the board apparently.

With his contract up end of the year I wouldn’t be surprised to see him take a step into European football, but maybe not England. Perhaps Monaco where he was once a player.

He should definitely be looked at though if he is soon to become available.

Such a dumb soundbite. Any manager would use our best players, currently a mix of world class recruits and former youth team players.

The only manager that doesn't give much of a chance to two big recruits, VdB and Sancho, is the manager currently in charge. They'd get a fair shake from anybody else I feel. Besides, these are all things to discuss with perspective managers, not just presume. Conte, for example, might have seen himself as all of them things.

We want to win now and plan for the mid to long term. Erik ten Hag would be the way to go.
Yes. We’ve done that though. We have good young players. But that majority of our squad are ready to win. The guy doesn’t even play youth.
